Adam Hogg Posted July 31, 2012 Report Posted July 31, 2012 Hi Everyone, i have heard a lot of things about the "Tescos development" one was it was still going ahead, another it is dead in the water and the list goes on, does anyone know what is going on?
tomtom Posted August 1, 2012 Report Posted August 1, 2012 The only people to tell you what is going on are likely to be Tesco's Main Board!
Malcolm Robinson Posted August 1, 2012 Report Posted August 1, 2012 According to the main board they have stopped all domestic development until they get their staff trained up better? First time in a lot of years they have lost quite a slice of UK market share according to their last accounts.
Brett Posted August 1, 2012 Report Posted August 1, 2012 And i highly doubt that there will be any update from them.I think they will be a bit reluctant to spend any money on the store at the moment.
tomtom Posted August 3, 2012 Report Posted August 3, 2012 It would be nice to have a Sainsbury or a Waitrose in the town. Contrary to popular belief both of these stores prices compare very well with Tesco in a lot of instances.
mobius Posted August 3, 2012 Report Posted August 3, 2012 Sainsbury? Perhaps, but Waitrose? Ho ho, I doubt many people of Bedlington would fit their demographic. There are branches at Jesmond, Hexham, Ponteland, and Newcastle city centre - all areas with people with high disposable income. Durham Waitrose had to close because out of term time when the students had gone home, there weren't enough customers to make it profitable.
Symptoms Posted August 4, 2012 Report Posted August 4, 2012 Ah, Waitrose! When I lived in London there was a Waitrose nearby and what a pleasant experience it was to shop there. Wide aisles, fully-stocked racks of fresh fruit & veg, and excellent selection of speciality olive oils, oh, and the staff were well presented and friendly. But, but, but, best of all ... there were no morbidly obese shell-suit wearing folk towing their unruly/noisy brats along with trolleys full of crisps, cakes, pies and sliced bread; you most certainly knew you weren't in Tesco.
