November 19, 201411 yr Wasn't there a sweetie factory in Blyth in the 60s? I have a clear memory of the air being thick with the smell of the things being made.
November 19, 201411 yr Redhead's, was the factory, my brother drove for them, I often rode shotgun while he delivered.
November 19, 201411 yr The first Head (in my 39 years of working at KEVI Morpeth) was George Chapman. An excellent, eccentric chap who always kept a huge sweet shop sized jar next to his desk. He took great pleasure in chucking a Black Bullet at you when you did something he valued. A dim view was taken if you didn`t catch it. Especially if you played on the staff cricket team. He gave them out at important meetings also. To not instantly suck on said sweet was frowned upon. Popular folklore says that it was to gag any opposing views the assembled might have! Simple but brilliant ploy!
