People in South Shields are the Sand Dancers and a friend from Bedlington referred to himself as a 'Mud Skipper'.

On a walk with some of our children from Humford to Plessey we all ended up clarty!

Fire clay maybe not to sure but very clagy..

Now get this thread on to politics anyone.

How about we become the Mud Skippers.

Not heard that people from Bedlington were called "Mud Slippers" !!! And you'll not get me pontificating on politics.

Maggs, just as well you had hot and cold running water to hose down those ankle-biters once you got home.  A couple of generations ago it would have been a cold tap in a communal yard bounded by hovels owned by Tory slum landlords.

A decent result to that challenge, me thinks!

Don't forget the cholera, polio and dysantry, cured by great politicians and reformers.

Why did I know the challenge would be met!!!

Well done.

I like the 'Mud Skippers' quote only because it shows a certain sense of humour.

More down to Earth than Sand Dancers.
