Gooch is an unsung giant of the age, a man with talent abounding and one who commanded great respect from his peers and achieved truly great things.

I believe it is 200 years in August since this great individual was born in our town.

We should mark the occasion in some or many ways.

A sure and certain way to raise the profile of Bedlington.

Any suggestions?

Canny Lass, given the Lion has a number of displays telling his life story they might actually go for this....I'll have a word!

Love it Gooch Hooch.

The perfect name for a beer brewed in Bedlington.

Local school children could be inspired by Daniel Gooch.

He achieved so much and from such an early age.

I see where he finally settled, and later died, in Windsor also have a Blue Plaque to honour him.

16 Oct 2015 -

A BLUE plaque to commemorate a legendary locomotive and telegraph pioneer has been installed near Windsor Central Station.

The plaque in honour of railwayman Sir Daniel Gooch was unveiled yesterday (Thursday) by the Royal Borough's mayor Cllr Dee Quick at Windsor Royal Shopping just outside the station.

It is installed on the wall of the former Great Western Railway station building - an appropriate place, as Sir Daniel was once chairman of the company.

The former Windsor magistrate who lived in Clewer Park, Windsor and died in 1889 worked for world famous railway engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel. He played a major role in laying the first successful transatlantic telegraph cable, using the SS Great Eastern.

I wonder if they will be doing something to commemorate the 200th anniversary of his birth on 24th August 2016?

Born in Bedlington, in 1816, he died at his country estate near Windsor on 15 October 1889.

He was buried at the Church of St Andrew, Clewer, Windsor, Berkshire.

Does anyone know if Clewer & Bedlington joining together for the 200th anniversary?

I hope Bedlington is remembered in any celebration near or far.

Our glorious past becomes our future.

A town with so much history to celebrate.

Is there anything happening in Bedlington today?

Just checked on Live CL and there appears to many young ladies coming out of the newsagents and saying - Goochie Goochie Goo to small persons in carriages.

Can't find anything online, even for his final resting place  in Clewer, Windsor.

There is a Bedlington lad, Ryan Hogg (don't know if he is related to Adam that started this topic), that has a Facebook group for Daniel Gooch and there are a couple of links, to another group and a blog, but that's all I can find.
