I was thinking about that last post I did and the ref to baked beans; on reflection I can't recall having many baked beans as a kid but do remember 'farter' peas. Many here will remember these beasts ... dried peas left to soak overnight, with a bicarb of soda tablet chucked-in for good measure - the peas would be cooked as part of the meal the next day.

Would that be what we call "Steepy peas" ?

Still have them now with a Shy's pie although we cheat and buy tins.  As my late Auntie Dot used to do an Oxo is dropped in with the peas to create gravy. Happy days 🙂

  • Hi. The photograph was of  the first football team at Barrington school.  When we played away games, mostly at Ashington, we had to walk to Choppington Station to catch the bus.

  • Hi, I hope this class photo has attached OK. Taken 1950's. Does any one know the names ?

  • Cympil, I have annotated the photo with the names of the rows. Office row was pulled down 1968/69. I think Blacksmith row was demolished 1930's. The other "rows" were Railway Row, Victoria Row, Stone
