  1. Maybe the time has come for the bleeding-heart left to face some of the cost their religion of "multiculturalism" is imposing on the rest of society. That probably goes for politicos (of all persuasions) who insist on interfering in regions of the world they don't properly understand. They're very quick to point out the supposed economic benefits of mass immigration, but simply don't want to discuss the enormous cost of all this added "security", or the impact on innocent victims. Asylum-seeker who avoided deportation after public campaign faces JAIL for sex assault And - wonder of wonders - an overpaid HoC committee has only just discovered that 36% of all asylum applications are from pure economic migrants (mostly illegal) who are quite obviously playing the system. Keith Vaz finds this "deeply concerning" - well, welcome to the world of ordinary British folk who have been concerned about this since Blair quietly opened all the doors to satisfy his international elitist agenda Mr Vaz! http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/08/14/third-of-asylum-claims-come-from-illegal-migrants-and-visa-overs/ May might now be urging a rethink, but, as our former Home Secretary, she's not at all blameless. If her excuse is that she was constrained by EU law then the wise British public have now removed the impediment. We need much more clarity from her government than we've seen so far.

  2. Mahatma Gandhi, as you know, walked barefoot most of the time, which produced an impressive set of calluses on his feet. He also ate very little, which made himrather frail and with his odd diet, he suffered from bad breath. This made him. (Oh, man, this is so bad, it’s good. . .) A super calloused fragile mystic hexed by halitosis.

  4. You'd never cope! there's more to being a woman than drinking wine and cooking: There's taking your man out for the evening, paying for the pleasure and being an unpaid, SOBER chauffeur. Then, there's shopping for shoes! There's also pots to wash and clothes to iron and did I mention shoe shopping? School runs and laundry, dusting and polishing and shoe shopping! And, of course, there's home fires to be kept burning: trees to fell, chain saws to be oiled, logs to cut, kindling to collect - if you can find the time in between shopping expeditions Now get that pinny off and get the wife another glass of wine!

  5. The shop at the top of the bank on the east side opposite the Lord Clyde was run by Norman and Peggy Yarrow - they had a daughter Maureen and a son Brian who was the milk man. They moved to the shop in Vulcan Place and Brian was still doing the milk round in recent years. Norman yarrow was heavily involved in one of the churches. (for some reason I cant see the pic?) Jacky wade was indeed a very tall man and after his mother died he married and moved to Spain - not only did he collect lamps but he also had a Dion de Bouton in the shed behind the pub and possibly another vintage car. ref the oilcloth - the Rice family lived at No 5 station terrace at Choppington Station and had the chip shop at Scotland Gate. in those days fish and chips was served in newspaper and the tables were covered in oilcloth!!
