Hi Frank, I don't know anything about the Whitley memorial as I've had no connection with it personally. However, if you are thinking there might have been a house beginning with the letter D then Dunstan might be a possibility - if you are thinking alphabetically: Aiden, Bede, Cuthbert and Dunstan. They are all saints, though Aidan Bede and Cuthbert have a common denominator - they are Northumberland saints. Dunstan, on the other hand, was a Canterbury saint. However there are possible connections to Northumberland. We have the hamlet of Dunstan (now incorporated in Craster) and of course Dunstanburgh castle. Dunstan became very popular throughout England following his canonization so it's not impossible that the hamlet and castle were named after him.
