  4. That sounds like the right thing to do, but I don't think it ever works out in the end, Eggy. I think you'll find that practically all the public money spent in Europe eventually goes down the drain. It might produce a short term boost, but that way is the way to a crushing disappointments up ahead. In case you think I'm too pessimistic about things, I'd simply say that I'm very upbeat about EVs and have now had one myself for over three years. I follow developments very closely and will try to find a bit of time to update everyone as to what's really going on internationally and how I see the future panning out. The media coverage on this subject is terrible, and we generally only get to hear what their big advertisers (often German motor companies) want us to hear. Interesting to hear what others have to say.

  5. That's right @Katherine Hyde. The name 'Mill Bank' and 'Mill Bank road' appear on many late 19thc and early 20thc maps but I don't think I have ever stumbled across anyone explaining exactly what the Mill Bank area was about (to me). The council houses, Millbank Place, were built (just like half of the council estates in Bedlington) after WW2. Our family moved into our council house, Coquetdale Place, in 1949 whilst they were still building the estate. I had a look at the old maps that are available for 1921. Two show the area where Haig and Beatty road are as clear :- The 1896 map also has Mill Bank named :- But then a 'Revised' 1921 map shows Alfred Road, Rosalind Avenue, Haig Road and Beatty Road but is does show them as blank sections suggesting they are under construction :- Then the 1937 map shows as the semi-detached houses :- This is the two 1921 maps joined together :-

  6. Just a heads up that there is a long overdue Gallery update coming in February. The way images are added is staying the same but there will be some fairly big improvements in how the images are presented to members. The main changes are the awful screen overlay is being removed and the overview page will be much better at highlighting images that are being commented on.

  8. Surely the government has to step in and back a company to take over from Britishvolt? The UK government policy on electric vehicles = all new cars and vans must be zero emissions at the tailpipe from 2035. any new cars and vans sold that emit from the tailpipe must have significant zero emission capability (which includes some plug-in and hybrids) between 2030 and 2035. all new HGVs >26t must be zero emission by 2040.
