  1. Spot on, but I think you cheated!

Should, of course, be: Or it makes you fat.

I think it was the B side of Bye Bye Love, circa 1957. Now would that have been a 78 or a 45? I really don't know, but I suspect it must have been one of the big brittle ones. Long before my time - of course! ;)

Must have come across it again in recent years, but I can't think where. A movie perhaps?

I would think it was a 78, mind you 45's where around at that time. I have been tying to find a version to listen to as I still do not remember the song but no luck so far.
  2. Shame on you Pete! I thought you - of all people - would have spotted the deliberate mistake in the thread title. :)

It comes from a (still well known) 1957 'B' side. Not that I recalled that when I quoted it! Can anyone name the artist(s) and the 'A' side?

You got me Threegee, Could the answer be the Beverley sisters?

Must admit I dont recall the song.

  3. Does anyone know when they closed Barrington School and what stands there now?

I was a pupil at Barrington school in the early fifties we used to walk through the Old pit to get to school, I remember there used to be a rubish tip next to it and I believe the brick yard was still there.

  4. And it's to be avoided like the plague.

I take it it's not very good then Denzel, the origional used to be a decent club. The Market place clubs still alright I was in there last time I was up there. Don't know about the station club havent been in there for years.

  5. It was me that flagged down the police car in the early hours and pointed out the gas coming through the paving stones. When the PC took out his portable radio and started transmitting directly over the leak I made my excuses and left - pronto!

The rest - as they say - is history!

I would have left as well, I believe there have been two more Top clubs since the original was destroyed the present being Jimmy Milne's old place of residence.

  6. word on the street is that the records office is temporarily closed in preparation for its move to the woodhorn museum in ashington at the end of the month (http://www.experiencewoodhorn.com)...

i could be wrong though... word on the street is often rubbish... it was argued on friday night that a huge leisure centre used to stand in atley park, surely a load of twaddle?

Don't remember any leisure centre on Atley Park unless it was after 1966.
