  1. I'll tell you what's happening Pete; a few of the lads are off to Morpeth the neet for a celebratory birthday drinkathon. Not long after we arrive, Pencil Neck's missus will turn up '...fancy seeing you here, and this is the first time I've been to Morpeth in years...' etc and she'll tag along with us. Simple, but effective.

Have a couple of pints for me Denzel and tek some bread for the ducks.

  2. Well.... opposite Chahals on Glebe Road, running at right angles was Shiny Row, then Doctor Terrace then North Row. These were some off the colliery houses belonging the Doctor Pit. I think (??) the last of them were demolished late 70's ( I remember visiting there in about 1975/6). Beyond them were South Row, Telephone Row & Cross Row I believe though they were long gone before my memories begin.

I've just asked me mum there, & with reference to the post 'Bedlington Lad Knighted', Albert's mum lived in Shiny Row no 46 as a young girl. She doesn't remember anyone by the name of Graves though, so sorry on the family record, but least you know where Shiny Row was. Good luck tracing your ancestors and living relatives, frustrating, but good fun when the hunt turns up some new info.

    Viv.

& ps to those waiting to see who the 'owld ones' are on here. Am not so!!!! A mere mid 40's!

I remember the name Shiny Row and I remember the last houses standing next to the garage top of the field where the shows used to be. My great Grandfather lived there until he passed away that was in the early sixties, he was in his ninties.

I remember there was a lot of colleiry houses up there near the Doctor pit and we would walk past them on the way to the shows, (during the Hopings) use to pass Jordans garage (dont know if Jordans is still there, that was in the fifties early sixties.

    Brings back memories.

nothing at all, its boring up here at the minute, went to morpeth fayre yesterday which was really good, but far to hot!!!It was really busy as usual but enjoyed the day anyway. apart from that there dittly squat goin on around here

Have they still got the rowing boats at Morpeth?

  4. I will tell you exactly what's at the core of Bedlington's problems.

This isn't my personal opinion, it comes from the mouths of the

culprits themselves - the present councillors that represent the Town!

The problem is that they are very sure of their support base - people

who would turn out to vote for them, no matter what! Those people

reside mainly in the East of the Town. They also know that people

living on the new private estates only sleep in the place, drive

straight out every morning in their cars, and generally couldn't give

a monkeys! Those folk are hard work for any sort of opposition to

    garner support from.

The consequence is that the people who have to earn their living in

the place - either employer or employee - aren't properly represented

on WDC. So.. the Town gets regularly shafted!

Only when the people who keep this lot of time-servers in office do

the decent thing by the Town, and refuse to turn out to support them,

will we get any change. Either that or some pretty publicity-grabbing

mass civil disobedience, which, given the present apathy, would be

    very hard to organise.

That's the truth of it, and no politician of any political persuasion

will say any different in private conversation.

There seems to be a lot of strong feelings about these councilors, is it not possible to form an Independent party and challenge them at the next local elections as I am sure you will probably find others who do not use this web site but would be of the same opinion as yourselves.

  5. Let's wreck the gaff!

Here here, it's the auld auld story Bedlington has always been shafted. I agee with Denzel.

As for shops even in the sixties there wasent any were decent to shop in Bedlington or the Station apart from Milnes

  6. heard the travellers were causing riots up the street lastnite and tryin to attack the door staff in the red lion and half of them got locked up. think thats about it really, supposed to be wansbeck council is gona spend 1.5 million on improving the market place and a few side streets that lead to car parks to encourage shoppers and traders to come to bedlington, but whether that happens is a different story, thats the crack at the mo anyway.:)

    Thank you

    :D
