It has been tried before Andy. Anyone reading this that is over a certain age will remember the Domino was open on a Sunday night for the under 18's. It was run by the same staff that were on duty on Friday and Saturday nights so that they would recognise anyone going on a Sunday trying to get in on other nights. There was the YM Monday to Friday. The thing is, no matter what is made available to teenagers it wont be enough. Generations of teenagers ,[myself and some of you reading this,included] have hung around on street corners because "there is nothing else to do" and this generation are doing the same , so will the next and so on, crying the same story nothing else to do. There is a building in the station that would be ideal for Andy's plan [the wife had the same thoughts a few years ago] It has a bar , kitchen ,dining area etc. It went on the market about 10 - 11 years ago and never sold [asking too much for it] it was taken off the market and is now standing there going to wreck and ruin. Some local authorities around the country would force the owners of such buildings to bring them up to scratch or the council would compulsory purchase them. The thing is Andy, you have the right idea and it will work as long as you can keep it fresh , the minute they get bored with it you will hear the same old story, nothing else to do.

Keith you mention the YM, if was not for the YM and Moscies cafe there would have been no where for my genaration to go at night but thankfully these places existed and kept a lot of people off the streer corners. Could somthing like that work today? I do not know its a different genaration with differnet values.

May 5th we are being asked to choose............

In the present, first past the post system, any candidate with a majority of votes cast wins.

In the AV system the winner has to have 50%+ of the votes cast. Instead of putting a cross next to one candidate you put a numbered choice next to as many as you want, 1-2-3 etc. according to your preferences. If no candidate gets the required 50%+ on the first count then the candidate with the least votes gets eliminated and their second choice votes are added to whichever preference is marked. If a candidate still doesn't have 50%+ then the next one with fewest votes is eliminated and their second choice votes are added to whichever.

If the electorate is 100 voters the vote might go something like this:

Candidate A gets 40%

Candidate B gets 30%

Candidate C gets 20%

Candidate D gets 10%.

At present candidate 'A' would win because they got the majority of votes cast. Under AV no candidate would win, none got 50%+, and a second count would be needed. In this case candidate 'D' would be eliminated and his second choice would be added to whoever. Let's say his second votes all went to candidate B which would give that candidate 40%, same as 'A', but still short of the 50% needed. Next candidate 'C' gets eliminated, having the next least amount of votes cast, and their second choice is added into the mix. Again let's say they go to candidate 'B' giving them 60% and therefore becoming the winner.

This is just a simplified version before the politicos on here start shouting!

I still do not understand AV Malcolm but what I have seen of it is the least likley candidate can win, therefore I will be voting NO to AV

Political I know but a small insight into EU working practices,

You never know Cympil dreams sometimes do come true. He seems to be a genuine guy and has acording to news reports paid £30,000 for an electronic score board which could produce revenue through advertising. Good luck to the Terriers it could be the begining of something good for them.

Pete no more sightings, though not really been the golf weather. I had a wander up to the course when the snow was down, but just the usual tracks, bunnies, deer, fox etc but no beastie tracks. Any way glad to see you out of hibernation, bit early though ain't it Pete :dribble:

The way the weathers going I wil be going back into hibernation, its been cold and raining all day.
