  1. Then the Wikipedia entry must have been written by someone from Ashington! Well.. it would be funny if it wasn't so near the truth!
  2. Just what the World needs - YABTWS (Yet Another Bedlington Terrier Website)! Did you see the new strap line before you posted? Anyway I do hope your web site will educate owners not to call the breed "Bedlingtons" - we get rather sick of people referring to their Bedlington. It's OUR Bedlington and it doesn't have four legs! Human Count: circa 30K (Slumber Hours, that is!) Canine Count: Several thousand. Sheep Count: Verging on 0 (Unless you count the butcher's.) Therefore, there's not a pressing need for the average Bedlingtonian to keep a tame mutton chaser. Consequently, you can walk around the place for days and see almost every breed but! A great disappointment to tourists, I know. Total lack of enterprise us not having somewhere for the huge number of Bedlington Terrier owners worldwide to visit, and somewhere to spend some money before they quickly exit! Where else on Earth would pass up such a tourist revenue opportunity? Well - I'll tell you where - the completely unsung Town that invented the railways that now span the Earth, and for good measure was also the birthplace of the guy who engineered the very first transcontinental communications cable. Both of the inventions which have completely transformed the World over the last century and a half. There is, of course, a well-visited museum to these great engineering achievements. Err... no! So.. welcome to the Town that's had it's identity stolen in more ways than one. The famous Town which is head and shoulders over very other Town in the World in the total and utter lack of enterprise stakes! Who is to blame for this? Well, it's a long story, and not too many people come out Persil white. Maybe I will get around to documenting a bit of it before too long. Anyway, wishing you every success with your new web site. You'll doubtless be giving us a link, now that you've placed one here for yourself.
  3. The new Gallery and Blog software has now been installed (at great expense!), but we still have some configuration issues to work through. i.e. It sort of works, and you can view old posts again, but there are some serious issues with uploding images to be worked through - um.. real soon! Large images can now be uploaded to the board. Though we haven't explored the exact limits yet, they are not at all restrictive.
  4. ...gracefully declined, due to other commitments. But have asked to be considered again when they are next in the area! Seriously, it should be pointed out that those on the buildings have once again been fitted and funded by the Bedlington Forum, and not W.D.C. We are all grateful to Mr. Brian Oliver for the hard work he unselfishly puts in organising the Bedlington Town Forum. Once again the Bedlingtonshire Chamber of Trade is putting, time, effort and money into lighting St Cuthberts Church Yard - which overlooks the Town Center. To give them credit, I'm told that dear old Wansbeck District Council is putting on a much better display on the lamp posts etc. this year. (Could some of the public critisim here have been heeded?) The cameras will be out shortly to test this hypothesis. We'll also be checking out the local traders, and residents, own displays. If you see any eye-catching ones then don't hesitate to post your own photos.
  5. A million leaves form their own dam in the River Blyth; just above the concrete dam South of Bedlington.
  6. Taken with a Nokia N80 phone and reduced to 800 x 600.
  7. ...then don't forget to say hello in the Introduce Yourself forum. You don't have to say anything about yourself - though it woul be nice if you did. That simple post will qualify you to maintain your membership for a full year. This tells me (or the moderators) that you intend to be an active member, and have an active interest in the Town; that you're not yet another damn pill-pusher or other Internet low-life! This domain is for OUR community to use, and people genuinely interested in our community. It's not yet another selling platform for outsiders! Local business may use it to serve our community, and that's the extent of it!
  8. See: Here. and See: Here too.
  9. The problem is now sorted. I've tested with up to approx half megabyte files (really too big for the web anyway), and it not only works fine but the thumbnail generator doesn't bomb out either! I think the file size limit is set to 1MB - will confirm and test this when I get a quiet moment. Will bump the available upload space as actualy needed. Presently there's about 50MB globally available, but this can be increased to anything sensible if it's being used productively for the Town - and not filled with crap! Getting the Galleries and Blogs back on line is now a priority - got some pix to post myself. Uploads may be restricted to the members only forums in future; we'll see how it gos. Enjoy!
  10. test 398.11k file 480.49k file
  11. Quite a few people/firms in the area have no broadband service from V21 at the moment. This is apparently the result of a commercial dispute, and/or a bald attempt to hijack customers to another entity (Ezeedsl). It all depends on who you believe! Anyway, BT is being its usual unhelpful self in refusing to give out MAC codes to enable people to migrate to another supplier, and Ofcom is trying to pretend that there isn't a problem. Exactly what Ofcom employees get their inflated salaries and pensions for is, once again, open to doubt!
  12. OK, so during the upgrade we've lost the Blogs and Gallery - for the moment. But it will be all come right - you'll see! Particular appologies to Bedlington Bears. Your masterwork will be gloriously restored. _______________________________________________ Note to Self: You really must get off your backside and show them how a blog should be done, you lazy b*! _______________________________________________ Notes to (unamed) person who rubbished the blogs because it doesn't support HTML tags: A bad workman blames his tools. It's intended for people who are not HTML literate. Show me some of your HTML that can't be done with the more straightforward BB code?
  13. It's just a preliminary draft of a template. Had to have something to attach the redirect to the board sub-directory to. And, at 2.30 in the morning, you're not quite as fastidious as at your better moments. It will be fleshed out fairly shortly, and when presentable we'll put a link to the board on it. Will be launching a first couple of features next month. So if anyone has anything to contribute, or any ideas, then either post them on the board or send me the material directly. Just click on my profile and follow your mouse to PM or e-mail me directly. There's also an email address to send photo and text to as well - supplied on a need to know basis.
  14. Just came across this... and yes, it is a valid english word. Can you work out what it means? No Googling or Wikipediaing until you've made an effort!
  15. Hey, we all need to wash our feet!
  16. Initial work complete. Thank you for your patience! We're planning quite a few "pretties" on the site now. About time we changed the boring old banner too!
  17. The Board, PM etc. will be offline for some hours over the weekend in order to upgrade the software. At the moment we've no exact timings for this. We'll do our best to minimise the outage, and will post notices on bedlington.co.uk as to best estimate of completion time. Sorry for any inconvenience.
  18. Was the last time I drove past it! http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?cli...&multimap.y=251 Let your fingers do the walking: http://www.thephonebook.bt.com/publisha.co...ington&x=35&y=9
  19. You'll be able to upload providing the pictures aren't too big (800 x 600 pixels or less). However.. we're carrying out a software upgrade later in the week, and will see if the present limits can be upped by a considerable factor. Anyone having difficulties can always contact me directly (click on my profile and PM or eMail me) and I'll happily post-process the pictures to suitable sizes and resolutions for them.
  20. Maybe because the Green Party is peopled with a bunch of head-in-the-air types who don't have any grip on the underlying science, let alone have any practical and workable ideas. No change there then! You've only got to point out that clean nuclear has to be part of the solution to witness their hysterical and unscientific response. Yet... they will quote all kinds of pseudo-science to you to justify their luddite prejudices. In short: Green is the new Loony Left!
  21. So would it have been on the empty bit of ground below the PoW cinema? i.e.to the North of same. There wasn't too many gaps on the West side of the Glebe Road, and almost all of what was there is still there. At least it was when I last took note.
  22. So there's an election, is there Malc? The town is simply awash with excitement; you can feel it in the air! And all today I thought it was only wet leaves blowing in my face in the gales!
  23. Not from Doctor Terrace, but you couldn't miss it looking out of the window! Was Doctor Tce or the Shiney Row the one nearest the Front Street, it escapes me just at the moment? There was also North Terrace, and some others just to the North East (but running North/South) which would have been demolished around the time Shiney, Doctor, etc. were renovated. That would have been the '50s or very early 60's, as I can just about remember riding around them on my bicycle with the other kids. Would the "Tin Mission" be what elders refered to as The Tin Tabernacle (sp?)? I can't really remember it but there was a space beside Watson's the newsagents (other) shop where something must have been. Indeed there were lots of spaces on the East side of the Glebe Road by the mid/late 1950s.
  24. If you applied that to the rest of the media we'd be down to two TV channels, one cinema and about three national newspapers! Just about the entire advertising industry would be on the dole too. It's a chat board - all about interaction, and often someone else's call if what you're saying is worth saying - if they reply it quite probably was. Saying hello is just common courtesy. We need more of that, not less! Anyway, nice to have you on board!
