  1. It's just a preliminary draft of a template. Had to have something to attach the redirect to the board sub-directory to. And, at 2.30 in the morning, you're not quite as fastidious as at your better moments. It will be fleshed out fairly shortly, and when presentable we'll put a link to the board on it. Will be launching a first couple of features next month. So if anyone has anything to contribute, or any ideas, then either post them on the board or send me the material directly. Just click on my profile and follow your mouse to PM or e-mail me directly. There's also an email address to send photo and text to as well - supplied on a need to know basis.
  2. Just came across this... and yes, it is a valid english word. Can you work out what it means? No Googling or Wikipediaing until you've made an effort!
  3. Hey, we all need to wash our feet!
  4. Initial work complete. Thank you for your patience! We're planning quite a few "pretties" on the site now. About time we changed the boring old banner too!
  5. The Board, PM etc. will be offline for some hours over the weekend in order to upgrade the software. At the moment we've no exact timings for this. We'll do our best to minimise the outage, and will post notices on bedlington.co.uk as to best estimate of completion time. Sorry for any inconvenience.
  6. Was the last time I drove past it! http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?cli...&multimap.y=251 Let your fingers do the walking: http://www.thephonebook.bt.com/publisha.co...ington&x=35&y=9
  7. You'll be able to upload providing the pictures aren't too big (800 x 600 pixels or less). However.. we're carrying out a software upgrade later in the week, and will see if the present limits can be upped by a considerable factor. Anyone having difficulties can always contact me directly (click on my profile and PM or eMail me) and I'll happily post-process the pictures to suitable sizes and resolutions for them.
  8. Maybe because the Green Party is peopled with a bunch of head-in-the-air types who don't have any grip on the underlying science, let alone have any practical and workable ideas. No change there then! You've only got to point out that clean nuclear has to be part of the solution to witness their hysterical and unscientific response. Yet... they will quote all kinds of pseudo-science to you to justify their luddite prejudices. In short: Green is the new Loony Left!
  9. So would it have been on the empty bit of ground below the PoW cinema? i.e.to the North of same. There wasn't too many gaps on the West side of the Glebe Road, and almost all of what was there is still there. At least it was when I last took note.
  10. So there's an election, is there Malc? The town is simply awash with excitement; you can feel it in the air! And all today I thought it was only wet leaves blowing in my face in the gales!
  11. Not from Doctor Terrace, but you couldn't miss it looking out of the window! Was Doctor Tce or the Shiney Row the one nearest the Front Street, it escapes me just at the moment? There was also North Terrace, and some others just to the North East (but running North/South) which would have been demolished around the time Shiney, Doctor, etc. were renovated. That would have been the '50s or very early 60's, as I can just about remember riding around them on my bicycle with the other kids. Would the "Tin Mission" be what elders refered to as The Tin Tabernacle (sp?)? I can't really remember it but there was a space beside Watson's the newsagents (other) shop where something must have been. Indeed there were lots of spaces on the East side of the Glebe Road by the mid/late 1950s.
  12. If you applied that to the rest of the media we'd be down to two TV channels, one cinema and about three national newspapers! Just about the entire advertising industry would be on the dole too. It's a chat board - all about interaction, and often someone else's call if what you're saying is worth saying - if they reply it quite probably was. Saying hello is just common courtesy. We need more of that, not less! Anyway, nice to have you on board!
  13. All BBs are plagued by people who join but don't post. Some just lurk, for most their joining is just a fleeting interest, and they never bother to visit again. But, in the process, they clog up membership lists and make handles unavailable to genuine contributors. They make the moderators job more difficult too. Well... not here and no more! We've just had a cull of people who joined but never introduced themselves, or even had the courtesy to say hello. All non-contributing members who joined before August are already gone. If you are reading this then you're not one of those, and your membership is still active. If you joined more recently than July 31st, haven't contributed anything, and want to keep your access, e-mail and personal messaging rights, etc. then you must have a non-zero post count. Members who joined in August have up until the end of this month to illustrate that they are still active. From then on we'll be tightening up on the grace period. This board is for active members only, and we are not looking to display over-inflated membership figures like most. On-going, members will need to contribute at least once a year to keep their membership alive. Hardly a problem for some!
  14. Here: www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?lat=55.1477&lon=-1.573&scale=10000&icon=x They are building on both sides of the road. If you can put a red circle on it then I can get you the current photos.
  15. Over the "Welwyn" road bridge and onward towards Bomarsund. Actually, come to think of it, there's probably more than one builder active there at the moment; they're building on both sides of the road. They look quite pricey, but then again even a well built pidgeon cree would cost these days. Well, they do - they just call them starter homes! Wooler has the important advantage of not being a less than 15 minutes car trip from the Metro Center.
  16. Neil Young http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neil_Young - love child of the Beverley Sisters, but which one? Glad to find that he's older than me anyway.
  17. Yes, I walked through it yesterday. And guess what? They're builing a mini housing estate for posh folks! This is - of course - is exactly what Bedlington needs; yet another housing estate for people who only sleep here, and don't give a damn about anything local ...unless it impacts their property values! Took some pix with the new phone, but will have to shrink them a bit before uploading.
  18. Photos coming in a day or three. Just been trying out latest camera smartphone today, and results are really impressive for a tiddler that doesn't pretend to be a real camera. Only prob is I can't think exactly where the school was, though I've certainly been in the building at some point. Thinks... Bedlington Glove Company (gone bust) perhaps? Barrington Brick Co. is gone; I can easily remember the chimneys, but pinpointing the precise location now could be a tad difficult. We'll see what can be done, and what remains.
  19. Spot on, but I think you cheated! Should, of course, be: Or it makes you fat. I think it was the B side of Bye Bye Love, circa 1957. Now would that have been a 78 or a 45? I really don't know, but I suspect it must have been one of the big brittle ones. Long before my time - of course! Must have come across it again in recent years, but I can't think where. A movie perhaps?
  20. Shame on you Pete! I thought you - of all people - would have spotted the deliberate mistake in the thread title. It comes from a (still well known) 1957 'B' side. Not that I recalled that when I quoted it! Can anyone name the artist(s) and the 'A' side?
  21. None of that ****ing four letter stuff on my watch!
  22. Isn't it a traditional right, like grazing your sheep on common land? Horses still have priorty on the road. Why change something that's so quaint and works? Too much namby-pamby hygene these days, and not enough where it actualy matters (hospitals!). In former times there would have been a race between allotment/garden owners to provide the service quite FOC. Nowadays, I suppose, they burn a gallon of petrol to go to a garden center to pay big bucks for a bag of the stuff (c/w plastic wrappings of course)!
  23. I've noticed dozens of people buying info on how to double the top up credit on your pay-as-you-go mobile phone. What they are buying is pretty dumb. Not only is it dumb but it's an invitation to commit fraud and most certainly not "TOTALLY LEGAL!!!" as claimed. The That online auction site that is in no way as good as Free Bedlington.co.uk Classifieds sellers will mail you the instruction to enter your voucher number on two phones on the same network, but not to hit the confirm until - holding one phone in each hand - you are totally ready to do it on both phones in the same instant. The "double credit" depends on the finite delay to look up the voucher number on the mobile phone company's database, and then to mark it cancelled. It's only a matter of time before the software is changed to log the number of voucher activations, and then stamp on both SIMs. That's the least of your worries though, as legal action may follow; the culprits are very easily identified. What's surprising is the absence of negative feedback for the people promoting this scam. A sign of the times, or a sign that That online auction site that is in no way as good as Free Bedlington.co.uk Classifieds's feedback system is severely flawed? Perhaps it's both?
  24. No, no, you misunderstand - our £1600 was spent on the sign in the Market Place. Or was it on cross-culture trips for councillors to Shalkswhatty - I've quite forgotten?
  25. It was me that flagged down the police car in the early hours and pointed out the gas coming through the paving stones. When the PC took out his portable radio and started transmitting directly over the leak I made my excuses and left - pronto! The rest - as they say - is history!
