  1. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sn/tvradio/programmes...band/tx/chimps/ Dunno about this proposition, but I can think of a few instances the other way around.
  2. High Alumina cement again? Remember the Top Club?
  3. Dear Home-sick, The weather is lousy - as per usual! ----------------- Damp overcast, and dullish. Ground: Wet Cloud cover: 100% Precipitation: Nil Wind: Zero (unusual) OAT (Outside Air Temp): 15.4c (Sensor is in a favourable southerly position, so others in the town may not measure it that high.) Sunshine: Nil Visibility: 1 Mile -----------------
  4. I think it's maybe that Russian "girl of your dreams looking for love" again! Moscow can be a lonely place! After all, there's lots of Marios in Bedders; can't move for them on the Front Street! Pity you can't find a real plumber!
  5. Butchers shop isn't much help, there used to be lots up and down the Front (main) Street and elsewhere. The name of the butchers would help though. We couldn't be talking about Walkers *the* Butchers could we? The numbers on both Front Street East and West (high steet) don't go quite that high. They run upwards going from both directions toward The Market Place (town center). Both sets of numbers end something either side of a hundred, but never as high as the 140's.
  6. Can you pass me the link to the census data? What does the number 146 refer to? Thinking about it I have a distant memory of a Water Tce. or Water Rd., or somesuch. But we're talking Sleekburn way here, and nowhere near Bedlington town, so it probs wouldn't appear on a Bedlington street map of any date. Walter does not ring any bells - except maybe Walter Wilson's, the grocery chain who had a presence in Bedders for many many decades. Update ===== Hmm.. there's a Waterfield Road down by the site of the former powerstations - doh! - really SHOULD have remembered that! http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?cli...&multimap.y=406
  7. Are you absolutely sure that's Walter and not Water? In the county archive at Morpeth. amongst other places. We do have a quite good scan of a mid 1800's one somewhere. Will try to locate and republish it. But Bedlingtonshire covers(ed) quite a large area and I don't believe that W?? Tce. would be at all near the main street (Front Street) - which is what that map centres on.
  8. Happy now? There needs to be something for the great unwashed (the 800 unregistered visitors each day) to read, now that what's here is only for them wot at least provide a genuine e-mail address!
  9. Have a good day A! You quite probably need something to cheer you up. BS
  10. ditto
  11. It's raining!
  12. According to local historian Evan Martin it was erected in 1894, and was scheduled to close in the Summer of 1997.
  13. I suggest that you follow this link: http://www.thephonebook.bt.com/publisha.co...n=ne22&x=26&y=6 ..and have a ring around. Even if it's not one of the three J's there, there's not that many Dawsons in the area, and a fair few of them will be related. Even if he's ex-directory one of them will surely be able to put you in touch.
  14. Thanks for the offer, but this is one thing we have plenty of in The Town without importing it from Russia! The same goes for the pills advertiser; the guy selling software to protect my PC, and others. Thank you, but read the rules - the BedBay forums are for local residents and firms only! Now, those local people may have nothing at all to sell; have all their wants met, and some might claim that for the most part they are lazy SOBS; web illiterate couch potatoes; totally lacking any enterprise; and apt to look gift horses in the mouth - but that's as it may be! Time will tell.
  15. I don't think they would have even recognised the term Police Station in the 1700's BLoB! Justice would have been a lot more swift and certain in those days! From the looks of the build it has to date from somewhere about the begining of the 20thC or the very late 1800's at earliest. There are certainly photos around showing the original stone buildings that stood at the "top end", and still photography isn't that old either! BTW you can both PM through your panel - far safer than posting an e-mail address on a public forum where it will be quickly spidered and bombarded with spam.
  16. There you go. Terribly sorry but it wasn't there when I last looked - at least that's my current story! I've improved the "moderator approval required" notifications so that they don't get gobbled by the great spam filter in the sky.
  17. Works for moi! I've just asked someone else to do a test post - standby!
  18. I think I'll spend my compensation on a Carribean holiday! [but first - like the other 17 million people that Google has spotted - I'd better learn to spell Caribbean!]
  19. Point taken, having a rethink. I need a way to ascertain that it's Joe from Hotspur Avenue, and not Ahmed from the Fraudsville Cybercafe, Lagos, Nigeria. On the other hand you'd happily pay to publish it in the local rag. And... would you buy from some anonymous handle on the Internet?
  20. OK there turned out to be two different problems. Both fixed now - sorry!
  21. Not to our household it hasn't! Ours is probably in a bundle in a hedge in someone's back garden - like most of our News Posts! Of course WDC could make use of the facilities here for FREE. But doubtless that's an inappropriate use of public money! AND... Councillor ********* - if you're reading this, you promised many moons ago to come on board and answer the queries of your electors. You are conspicious by your absence. Come election time this may return to haunt you. Or... are you banking on a well-paid retirement before your neglect of the Town finally catches up with you?
  22. Sat 12:40 ====== We're using the unusually low activity on all domains to carry out server software updating and clean up. This may involve a server reboot or two or three during which bedlington.co.uk won't respond at all for a few minutes at a time. At the moment though Personal Messaging is working fine emailing other members through the board isn't - the result of a low-level software upgrade having caused an unforseen problem. We're looking into this problem as top priority, as many other domains are involved. 3G Sat 16:04 ====== eMail service now restored.
  23. http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/5day.shtml?id=2752 All supplies of sun tan lotion are exhausted. ...but the weather can't/won't last! ...but ...but 26 degrees now being forecast for Monday/Tuesday :o ...so this could be the warmest period since ...whenever!
  24. I will tell you exactly what's at the core of Bedlington's problems. This isn't my personal opinion, it comes from the mouths of the culprits themselves - the present councillors that represent the Town! The problem is that they are very sure of their support base - people who would turn out to vote for them, no matter what! Those people reside mainly in the East of the Town. They also know that people living on the new private estates only sleep in the place, drive straight out every morning in their cars, and generally couldn't give a monkeys! Those folk are hard work for any sort of opposition to garner support from. The consequence is that the people who have to earn their living in the place - either employer or employee - aren't properly represented on WDC. So.. the Town gets regularly shafted! Only when the people who keep this lot of time-servers in office do the decent thing by the Town, and refuse to turn out to support them, will we get any change. Either that or some pretty publicity-grabbing mass civil disobedience, which, given the present apathy, would be very hard to organise. That's the truth of it, and no politician of any political persuasion will say any different in private conversation.
  25. It's the p's and the d's that separate the sheep from the goats! There once was a 1d bar of chocolate, though by my day it was rather tiny. Mind you a 6d (2.5p) bar of Cadbury's Fruit & Nut from Watsons Newsagents lasted several pages of The Eagle comic on the United bus. Sheer quality - except the United bus! http://www.dandare.org/eagle/frontpage/frontpage.htm
