  1. I had 2 tyres punctured on my previous vehicle by vandals.

I discovered it one Sunday morning & phoned it in. There was an officer around within 10 minutes. An update was given to me about the previous night`s attacks on vehicles in the neighbourhood, where an arrest had been made.

The following Wednesday evening another officer came & took a victim statement & gave me a crime number for insurance use.

As good a service as you can get I think in the circumstances. No complaints from me on that occasion.

  2. I thought I would start this thread off following a "Door To Door" visit by Northumbria Police tonight.

St. Johns Road has recently been the target of at least one opportunist burglary.

I believe a door was left unlocked. A property was entered & item or items stolen.

Let us keep each other informed with such matters that sadly blight our community.

    Forewarned is to be forearmed.

  3. Any idea how long the truant officer has had this type of roll Keith? Is it something relatively new? Have there been any reports (government, newspapers, TV etc.) on how successfull the system is or otherwise. Anybody know what the children think about this system?

The School Board man is now known as the Welfare Officer. Northumberland has a dept to deliver this role.

The school I work at has an Inclusion Policy which works hard at getting kids back into school. Some Associate Staff have this as their role. Indeed one is like an out reach worker.

Malcolm is right not all kids are academic & there should be greater value attributed to vocational courses. My 37 years at KEVI has seen lots of excellent kids come through courses such as BTec & gone on to be very successful.

I was never academic at school. I went on to a Technical College which was one of the first to run a TV Production course & my old lecturer gave me the bug for TV & Radio & my first job in media when I joined the unit on a temporary basis.

I remain eternally grateful to my old lecturer Dave. Thank you Sir!

  4. Dear All

As ever you get the info first...

    Funding News just in.

West Bedlington Town Council have just given us £1000 from the Community Chest Award Scheme.

Many, many thanks to them for their continued generosity & support to our project.

We have contacted all of the Parish/Town Councils & County Councillors, in our broadcast footprint, for funding towards our next transmission. :dj:

Please feel free to lobby them for us. We would much appreciate that!

  5. Hi, its been a while!

I'm looking for a local company to print around 1000 leaflet/brochures for me. (you know they type, a sheet of A4 folded twice to make a tourist booklet)

Of course, i could just print them myself, but the cost of ink, and the quality of paper is not acceptable.

I'm looking for something not too glossy, but with a shine too it, but not too cheap looking either.

i have a basic design saved as a PDF that could be improved on.

Anyone had any experience with this type of thing?

I dont mind dropping names, if it helps you get a discount next time ;)

Of course there are the online companies like VistaPrint etc, but i'd rather do it locally if i can.

Oh, and if the price is right, i'd stretch to 5000 ;)

    Mr Darn.

You might like to try Azure (formally SHAW) in Pegswood Ind. Est.

  6. Yep, Cowt was a mackem ("the only mackem in the village" ... to paraphrase from a certain recent comedy show). A brave lad indeed as he'd be seen at the Red Lion bus stop, all decked-out with red & white scarf and bobble hat, waiting for the bus to go to the match. He was a good friend of mine but they were kinder times back then; the rest of our group were avid Toon supporters but he was always part of our group. I'm not sure that would happen these days.

In the 70s/80s Me, Alan & about 30 others from the Morpeth supporters branch, used to tour the country together. I know Alan well.

    He lives in Guide Post.

When I lived there we used to often have a beer & natter together on a Saturday night in the Queens before it`s sorry demise.

  7. foxy - could it have been Coultas? There was a Cliff Coultas (he would have been maybe 65 to 70 now but died just a few years ago ... he was in the cops), an Alan who I knew would be 59ish now, and I think there was a younger brother Keith. Cliff and Alan (Al's nickname was Cowt) were Westridge lads early to mid 60s.

Does anybody know where Alan is now as it would be great to make contact with him again?

    Symptoms.

Is the Alan you refer to a devout Sunderland supporter by any chance?

  8. I had the pleasure of recording an interview with Sir Harry Secombe, just after he had recorded an episode of TTTV`s Highway in Morpeth.

It also just happened to be his 70 birthday. He had to graciously decline a piece of a rather splendid cake baked for him, due to him being a diabetic.

    A very nice man.

  9. Yep. My first attempts at driving were along that road too.

Back in 1978 me & my old Escort trundled along that road at a mean 20mph.

On one occasion I stalled it just before rejoining the Choppington road.

Escorts were renowned for the sticking bendix in their starter motors & I couldn`t restart it.

So there I was, with the bonnet up, giving said bendix a whack with a chopping axe head :dribble:, just as a police car came by the junction, being driven by a very diligent officer, who must have thought I was trying to hot wire it, cos he screetched to a halt!

Thankfully he knew of certain Fords failings too & believed my story.

  10. Malcolm,

What a miserable effort, it's Choppington Lane if you look closely you'll see that Mrs Begbie was giving out Green Shield Stamps, thats more than your getting!!

I think she used to like me cos she`d give me double coupons for the Shell tumbler glasses. Some of which you could actually get back to your car before they broke!

  11. My brother David was in the ATC in guide Post, he really enjoyed it

    Belated Happy Birthday Micky.

As Vic has said the ATC was in Ashington.

If your brother was in a cadet thing in Guide Post it would probably have been the Army Cadets. As I was in the late sixties early, seventies.

The leader was John Quinn (Capt.)

I had to quit when my hair got too long to hide under my beret. If only I still had that problem!

    Bedies.

The home of the Army Cadets is on Morpeth Road estate. Still going I believe.

Behind & a little left of the war memorial. Directly opposite the Morpeth Road garage. Google map Queens Head Guide Post & trundle up the road a bit. It`s the white roofed hut on the right.

In my day it was very popular with the cadets Dads: the bar was open before 12 on a Sunday morning!
