I presume everyone has seen this............. Pity we couldn't have got a bit more on Bedlington! http://www.newspostleader.co.uk/news/local/a-day-in-the-life-of-south-east-northumberland-video-1-5790574

If shale gas is so much in abundance hereabouts should we allow this region to once again be the provider of cheap energy for the rest of the country (AKA coal mining) or should we try and learn lessons from the past and this time keep some of the riches here? At least to provide the modern infrastructure and educational attainments we so desperately need to compete with the best of the rest. The amount of windmills proliferating our county has to be seen to be believed compared with other counties in the country and is a classic example of exploitation and NIMBY'ism. (If they worked that is!)
-
Not in what ever way they want John but it is for capital projects. You are talking about county councillors mind!!!
-
I have made enquiries to set the ball rolling in that direction Keith. Actually something like this is probably better run by interested volunteers rather than a jobs-worth. It would get far more attention!
-
Keith, I really don't want to rain on your parade but I think you need to learnt to walk before any sprinting. Get the basics covered first. Nowt wrong with ambition, just temper it with a bit of reality. I tried to get a large miners lamp for the top of the heap in Gallagher Park and I wanted it solar powered so it lit up at night! Thats how I know there isn't anywhere for funding and I even asked our MP, given his previous job.

Sym wrote: "It really does need to start with a Steering Group consisting of a mix of interested locals, including Bedlington politicians (Town Council perhaps)." Once a Town Councillor signs up to support a scheme like this they have register that interest and withdraw from any discussions regarding, for the sake of argument, matters which might relate to the likes of small grant funding to kick start it!
-
Don't see why it couldn't work Keith but it would need someone to drive it. You volunteering and not to be too cold blooded but your personal story would get it media attention I would think. I like the pic Vic put up WYSWYG, nothing ambiguous there.

I think first of all we need to be clear of what the intention is. Is it a brass plaque or something else to commemorate local mining fatalities? If we are talking about a plaque, I have recently priced some up for the Gallagher Park project and they aren't that expensive! Brass or anodised aluminium type finish? Would have to be fairly succinct with the script mind! If I remember correctly up to 8 lines or we are talking a bespoke engraving. Next where to put it. Just as a matter fo info.......we are about to see some upgrades to Gallagher Park with a large gateway feature. (Certainly a connection there to mining.) Plus with a bit of luck we should soon see the bandstand and that area at Attlee Park upgraded. (Venue for the old Miner's picnics.) Not sure I can connect a building in the town with mining so the likes of a plaque would be fitting?

There are very very few funders who fund statues or memorials. Seems that is very passé these days! (Doesn't make it wrong though!)
-
Coalfields Regen won't help John, best bet at the moment for something like this is the Creative People and Places initiative. (I have previously asked the NUM too.) I already asked for Gateway Features for Bedlington, what better than one as a lasting memorial? One extra bit along the same lines (excuse the pun!) is that Adam is trying to get the old pit tubs which are out in various places renovated before they completely drop to bits.

I am just thinking………….people pay dammed good money to lie on a trickcyclist's couch and spout forth all their pent up frustrations and admit to things they have stuffed into the very bottom recess of their subconsciousness. If it starts getting Freudian…………. Maybe we should be charging a fee for the cathartic exercises going on here? Not sure about the statute of limitations neither!

Michael Gove........the guy leaves a trail of slime behind him!

http://www.telegraph...ilout-fund.html Well its looks like we are about to get really poorer really quick now. Why hasn't this been splashed all over the MSM? Let's look at how the 'Rescue Fund' is made up. There are several players in the above who I have no doubt are raring to hand over their contributions……..not! Countries already attracting bailouts having to stump up to bail out EU wide banking? The lunatics have already taken over the asylums! So what's likely to happen really……………EU/ECB money printing on a huge scale or even a contemptuous use of fractal banking. Either way paper money (FIAT) is going to be under intense pressure to survive in any form never mind with any worth. Draghi is ignoring any constitutional and democratic laws which get in his way and it's now a case of his way or the highway.

THIS IS TRUE Brilliant Beijing Hotel Brochure - Translated as only they can: Obviously, it has been translated directly, word for word from Mandarin to English.... Getting There: Our representative will make you wait at the airport. The bus to the hotel runs along the lake shore. Soon you will feel pleasure in passing water. You will know that you are getting near the hotel, because you will go round the bend. The manager will await you in the entrance hall. He always tries to have intercourse with all new guests. The hotel: This is a family hotel, so children are very welcome. We of course are always pleased to accept adultery. Highly skilled nurses are available in the evenings to put down your children. Guests are invited to conjugate in the bar and expose themselves to others. But please note that ladies are not allowed to have babies in the bar. We organize social games, so no guest is ever left alone to play with them self. The Restaurant: Our menus have been carefully chosen to be ordinary and unexciting. At dinner, our quartet will circulate from table to table, and fiddle with you. Your Room: Every room has excellent facilities for your private parts. In winter, every room is on heat. Each room has a balcony offering views of outstanding obscenity! .. You will not be disturbed by traffic noise, since the road between the hotel and the lake is used only by pederasts. Bed Your bed has been made in accordance with local tradition. If you have any other ideas please ring for the chambermaid. Please take advantage of her. She will be very pleased to squash your shirts, blouses and underwear. If asked, she will also squeeze your trousers. Above all: When you leave us at the end of your holiday, you will have no hope. You will struggle to forget -

Gideon at the Mansion House.......... "High-street banking will be ring-fenced so that taxpayers are better protected when things go wrong. We will be able to bail in creditors when a bank fails rather than turning to the public purse.†EH??????
