  1. Oh Dear I have every respect for all miners, particularly if they were at Hartford Hall. You did not say the miners or your brother were scared Keith. I said they would not be scared. I am sorry you have misunderstood. Miners did have lots of superstitions, but given the job, which needed skill and bravery, that was very understandable. Please accept my apology.
  2. It reminds me of the old Cup and Ring marks The circle of life. Joni Mitchell wrote a good song. Views are magic. We can view it from lots of places in Bedlington. How much money are they making from coal extraction. Walk up and see what you think. Apologies to anyone who lives far away
  3. What about standing on top to get the full benefit of the steam.Pollution was not seen as a problem. Train journeys to Blyth and Whitley Bay. The Hotspur, I think and the Fat Ox!
  4. Where is the site? Maybe start a new one. Anyone remember the wires to the caretakers house being cut? Circa 1960 I was hit by a hockey stick. Several stitches later I never did like competitive sports. A prize list I have tells a tale. Ghostly voices from the past
  5. One of my replies has disappeared. Maybe the Ghost! When the hall was the Miners Rehabilitation Centre. I think the upper floor was the one that came under suspicion of being haunted. Ruffty tufty miners would not have been scared of the dead surely
  6. It is a small World.
  7. I have a number of books on Bedlington. I am a bit of a hoarder.
  8. Sounds interesting I have a book on Plessey and more, must do some work (research)! My mother worked at Hartford Hall and a cousin worked in the Gym (repair) It is a wonderful house in a fantastic position. Also the tales of Ken Russell and the filming of Women in Love. Ken Russell did a follow up on his filming. The Main Street had Maureen Shelly's butchers shop looking distressed and boarded up!
  9. Lots of opinions but how about reading The Ragged Trousered Philanthropist by Robert Tressell Maybe we all live in a kind of Mugsville
  10. An old relative now deceased, said the gates at Hartford were shiny when she first used to see them! Never been able to confirm. Pity they are no longer there or anywhere in the town.
  11. I hope the sink and you survived intact. I cannot blame the sink for my broken arm. A Scooter and a pavement, with a touch of more haste less speed.
  12. There are towns where people are encouraged to be the disc jockey and play seven seven inch records. Old records are still relevant, skateboarding has many videos or DVD that are set to an older play list, music spans the generations in any format. Web piracy is just a detail.ENJOY
  13. I remember dance classes at Bedlington Station. Mother chatting while one or two of us were sciving.there was a dance display about 1959. Got the outfits but broke my arm. Phew
  14. Yep! There were quite a few children. Mum and car full. Happy days.
  15. David Cowans Bedlington history society has a family connection. His family took over the pub and cleared the blood up!
  16. One of the Marleys from the Humford Mill Baths worked at Cleeswell Hill school a few years ago. The Marleys who were teachers at Westridge lived at Nedderton
