I walked up to see at first hand what was happening. I was amazed to find the concrete is not supporting anything and the building behind looks as if it will suffer the same fate as the road. Please someone reassure me that the developers know what they are doing! It is such a historic site, could we persuade them to do a time team type dig before they do anymore. What is there to lose, they do not seem to care about safety and the danger posed to the businesses and people of Bedlington.

This brewery and hostelry is on the Barrington Road, in what was The Glove Factory, They do good food and real ale. With nine children in our group they were kind and efficient. They even found Altered Images version of Happy Birthday and gave the Adults a tour of the brewery.

Very relaxed atmosphere. On your recommendation I had the parsnip cake. It was excellent.

Pub names change but the original names can have a history all their own. The Dun Cow i believe led the Monks with The body of Saint Cuthbert to the site they made home (Durham or Dun Holm)

A public enquiry at Bedlington. This took place on the 19th October1849. Among the people present was George Routledge postmaster of Bedlington. I guess he could be found on the 1851 census

Our Genes all go back to Africa, watch Eddie Izzard tonight tracing his roots back. We are all equal, people who live in Bedlington for any number of years become extra special, regardless of colour or creed.

Is it, or was it a term of abuse. Robson Green has done a programme on the Pitmen Painters and maybe he could do a follow up on the subject of the language. The play is being produced again I believe.

Could there be a connection. We know we are connected to Saint Cuthbert, why not The Venerable Bede. We have a history before recorded time. With modern methods what could be found or discovered. A unique time and place before major development, in and around the church.

The BBC session one Christmas is good. There is a good song called the Mistletoe Bough which I have not heard on any cd. We have tickets to see Clannad soon, guess that will be the exact opposite of Bellowhead. No one will be up and dancing.

Bellowhead! Their cd Broadside starts with Byker Hill. Second track is the Old Dun Cow! Worth a listen. If you get the chance go and see them live.

If we had some evidence of the Old Iron Works like the Bessemer Converter,we may have got more people taking notice of the contribution Bedlington made to the birth of the Railways. I read somewhere that Barry Mead was doing a talk in Newcastle last night about Bedlington's contribution to the Railways. A Crucible seems small by comparison. We lost out when the Iron Works closed but we do have a lovely river valley

Seems The City Hall has been saved. The City Hall is as much part of the Toon as Saint James' Park!

It really was a terrible war. I do not think there is a good war, innocent people die. Even if the cause is good and necessary. I was shocked at the numbers drafted from Millbank Crescent alone. Truly the Pals War. United in War, Death and Injury. Then home to people only interested in the price of bread! So many many thoughts must have been difficult. Bedlington and security to carnage. Long may we live in peace.

Very interesting James. I think the farm opposite the new Broadway house farm was owned or run by the Grey's. I know the new farm house had no electric. Wired up but not connected. Now people worry about Electro Magnetic Fields maybe then it was electric that was dangerous.

Was this the same place as Puddlers Row. Spoaching again.

I wonder if there was a source of water that earned the name Fountain.

No sorry, they have only become Terriers by association.

Ian de Montfort is unbelievable on radio 2 Thursday 9.30, last weeks on I player. Guess from his accent he is from further south, still NE. Very funny we think. He really is Tom Binns. Also recommend the music of 'I am Kloot' band member Peter Jobson went to school in Morpeth. Most people will have heard of Ross Noble from Cramlington. If you have not check him out. As I have put things in the wrong forum I felt the need to raise the profile of anyone from the NE.

In the 80s she was at Woodhorn allowing kids or anyone to try and play her pipes. Some terrible noises could be heard.(not from her) She now helps young people become involved in the Folk Music Tradition.
