  1. Forgot to add in my reply above :- The first site I checked was the Durham Mining Museum (DMM) and it dose not have 'cartman'. After I got a response from Bob Boyd referencinng 'putters' I checked the DMM again and it does have 'Putters' & 'Pony Putter' in the Mining Occupations list :- http://www.dmm.org.uk/educate/mineocc.htm
  2. @Canny lass thankyou Surrounded by miners on our estate, Coquetdale Place, and made extra pocket money by shovelling or wheelbarrowing and filling two buckets at a time and carrying them to the coal house but know very little terminlogy from the pits. some response I got from other groups eg Facebook group Friends of Bates Colliery & Old Photo's of Holywell & Seaton Delaval & Seghill & Hartley,Sluice,W/ba :- https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=261499.msg1472307&fbclid=IwY2xjawFTnkVleHRuA2FlbQIxMAABHQ-nj2qUrqQL9BQoFM6Hmpmb5MCaLsilm5YWXdMk9ZuAQuV27piyfJP1JQ_aem_QWyDSDdj3XxM36adauG_UA#msg1472307

Can someone tell me what that job was. Thanks'. I have checked on the Durham Mining museum site but the name 'Cartman' is not on the list of professions/job titles and I can't find anything similar job titles. Lookig at the image Christine posted I am not sure that it is a letter 't' in the job name . Can anyone on this site help?

  7. @Roz S in January 2020, under the History Hollow section @Stuart created a topic as he was trying to find out where Wilson's Yard was in Bedlington. This is a direct link to the topic and it has a couple of maps showing where Wilson's Yard - 'Smithy' was :-
  8. @Mal - can't recall, or find any topic, about the running/harriers club. I know I have a downloaded photo of Vulcan Place with a Harriers logo I added plus a question mark above the two buildings that could of been the runnning club. But I can't find the topic that woud have made me produce that image
  9. @Margaret Daley this 'Then and Now' image with a few p;aces identified might help when @Canny lass follows up with whatever info she finds fron the census records.

  11. https://www.northumberlandgazette.co.uk/business/report-outlines-ambition-to-start-work-on-ps10bn-northumberland-data-centre-in-2025-4760845?fbclid=IwY2xjawFCfwJleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHaoNQaWoeQnies9fiIimPdKJ8TMpHcGJGvEjOnIIaYOWStYvUNN-3P1fsg_aem_Z0NnUoToPzxNfbhgFQPxRA The purpose of the report is to ‘ensure that potential impacts that could give rise to likely significant effects are proportionately and appropriately addressed’ in an Environmental Impact Assessment. Data centres similar to this CGI are planned for the Northumberland site. (Photo by QTS/Northumberland County Council) It addresses issues including ecology, transport and access, air quality, noise and vibration, water, climate, socio-economics, health and visual impact. The report adds that proposals are being developed for an outline planning application, with all matters reserved except for access, for the erection of up to 10 data centres totalling up to 540,000 sq m. "The proposed development will be a flagship project and one of the largest data centre campuses in Europe,” adds the report. "It is anticipated that the proposed development will be built out in phases across a period of approximately nine years. "Construction works are anticipated to commence in 2025 once the outline planning permission has been granted. “Although the details of phasing have yet to be determined, it is currently anticipated that the first phase would comprise the build out of two date centres.” The campus could draw further investment of between £5bn and £10bn from the centre’s future tenant, likely a tech giant such as Google or Microsoft. Data centres are used to house computer systems to store and manage large amounts of digital data. In April, councillors agreed to revise their right to buy back the land in exchange for a fund of up to £110m, set to be invested across the county. Blackstone’s plans were contingent on this being agreed. The council and Blackstone estimate the project will create 1,600 direct jobs, including 1,200 long-term construction jobs, and over 2,700 indirect jobs. The site was previously earmarked for an electric car battery gigafactory built by start up firm Britishvolt, but these proposals have now been ditched.

  16. I was being sarcastic. How does anyone know what 'Far-right' lot will do next following the riots and anti-immigration protests have taken place in England, Wales and Northern Ireland since 30 July 2024 that followed a mass stabbing in Southport on 29 July, in which three children were killed. I for one do not know, and will not attempt to speculate, what will happend next regardless of what any political party leader threatens.
  17. I am now informed it's Banff to Vanvcouver tomorrow and then Vancouver to UK on Saturday.
  18. And that will result in the the Far-right thinking Sir Keir know what he is talking about and they will advise all their followers on social media to lay back and enjoy the rest of the summer/autum months until Sir Keir and his mates to sort out everything the Far-right is against

  20. Yep staying in Banff for a few days and today it's Kamloops, according to Google maps it's a 494km drive from Banff to Kamloops, but I don't know if they will be staying overnight in Kamloops and what the next trip will be. It might be a flight from Kamloops Airport (YKA) but no doubt Jacquie will let me know but she does keep forgetting the kids are currently 8 hours behind us in the UK
  21. I know the plan they had was to fly to Alberta and then after 'bear hunting' drive from Banff to Revelstoke but I don't know if they are gong back to Banff. I know they have another flight booked( four hour flight I think) and I think that will be the last journey West or North West and at the end of the holiday they will be flying from the west back to the UK - about 10 days from today (I think).
