My mam (born 1920) had 5 brothers and  4 of them were miners and I think (but could be wrong) they all started off at the Doctor Pit.

Martin Henderson - born 1921 - Deputy at Dr Pit and later in his life was the Market Place Club Chairman .

John Luke Henderson - born 1925 - always knew him as Luke.

Bob Henderson - born 1934 - was at  Choppington Pit  when he retired.

George Henderson - born 1937 - last worked at Bates until it closed.

  2. I posted the photo on the Bygone Bedlington Facebook group and Ovalteeny has posted this comment  and info :-

Barrington United FC were a fairly successful local club after WW2 and were in the Northern Combination League for 2 seasons 1947/48 and 1948/49. They then played in the Northern Alliance for the next three seasons. From information extracted from The Morpeth Herald & Blyth News I compiled a list of the players, throughout those years, see image below. This list might just help people put a names to faces in the above photo.

Thanks Eggy! I don't recall either the club or the garage as beig that high but it must be right. I was thinking the tower of St Cuthberts but the angle is all wrong.

Initially I though St Cuthberts but like you I then thought the angle was all wrong . On top of The Nail wouldn't be high enough :)

    Feel free

Ernie would you match your list of names for the back row with the numbers I have added?

I shared your photo with the much younger brother, James, of an ex BGS lad Joe Stewart. Joe lived in Pioneer Terrace, Bedlington and played football for East Northumberland. Joe would be about 9 years older than me but I remember he was one of the Managers at the Unemployment Office, top floor of the old Co-op building on Station Street. I'm mentioning all this as James says No 1 is his older brother Joe. Do you agree r is it Jim Stewart as you have him named?

@claire Holmes - I will check on the Cambois Facebook group where the school photo, with Peter Calumboski, was first posted, to see if there are any other photos that have Calumboski family members on.

No doubt @HIGH PIT WILMA will have a search through his memory to see if he has any info on your family.

@claire Holmes - If you are on Facebook then you could join the Cambois Facebook group where there are some Calumboski family members :Michelle Grant  - Rayne Calumboski

    Hello

I know this was from a few years ago but I have just found it when searching for information on my family tree.

Ada and Charlie Calumboski were my great grandparents. My grandmother was Sylvia, one of their children.

I would love to see any more photos as they both passed away before I was born.

    Thank You

  7. Ernie Armstrong posted Keith Lightley's photo - Didball Cup winners - 1966. Names from Keith.

    Allan Kid commented :- '

I played in the 66 Diball Cup final, against Manors School from Heaton. The two legged event ended 5-5 If I remember correctly, so the cup was shared for six months each. Others in the team that I remember were Neil Straker, Keith Lightley, Norman Common, Peter Smart. Alan McNally was goalkeeper and was a year younger.
