Cheers Joseph - - I've just been trying to convince a couple of people on the Bedlington Facebook group sites that I expected the photo of your granda with the yard of ale would have been taken in The Howard Arms. One was convinced it was The Blue Bell!. Now I can put them all right

Thanks Eggy. There's so much info on the web - much of it conflicting - that it's hard to know what's what. I'm hoping to find somebody with 'real-life experience to have a natter with before I fork out a lot of money.
CL - I put a link on me post but can't see it now! The link was :- http://travelingcanucks.com/2010/10/peru-attractions-other-than-machu-picchu-incan-city/

Never been but April, according to the 'On-Line' world does appear to be the best time to visit :-
What season is it right now in Peru?Peru Seasons & Climate. The peak season for travel in Peru is between April and October. Although these months are winter south of the equator, it is locally considered summer in the Andes of Peru because it is the dry, sunny season, and the best time of year for travel and trekking.BUTThe summer (December – March) is the wettest season, with frequent heavy showers. The temperatures are higher than in summer, but the nights can get very cold. In Apriland October the weather can be unpredictable with varying conditions much like the UK.ANDFrom November to March is the rainy season in Machu Picchu, while between April to November is the dry shiny season. The rain months take approximately the 80% of the annual volume of rains (1.600 – 2.300 mm). ... However, Machu Picchu has part of the Amazon jungle, and the rains are present in all the seasons. (I'm singing, and dancing, in the rain, forest.)EXPERIENCE - then visit :- http://travelingcanucks.com/2010/10/peru-attractions-other-than-machu-picchu-incan-city/ -

Alas I don't Eggy
Me neither - an old school mate got in touch and said he had our final year class photo, 1965. Unfortunately he couldn't get a decent image (he hasn't a scanner) and you can't make out anyone, it's so blurred . He has had a few attempts at taking a photo of the photo but all blurred .

bottom end mate,I think it was because Mario was always working there,he was a fella with a temper mind
Can't recall a Mario, it must have been after I moved away, 1969. In the sixties the old man, the owner, was Joe Moscadinii and his son was Bernard. Bernard dividing his time between the cafe and the snooker hall - Annie & Norman (from South Row I think) were in the snooker hall full time.

.................................................... and the shop at the station used to be called "Mario's" by then, good times though
Baccis used to have a shop at bedlington Station, but well before my time. The cafe at the Station, that we (Bedlington Station people) grew up with in the 60s was Moscardiniis - never heard the name 'Mario's' used for Moscardiniis, or Baccis.
Would Mario's just be the 'Top-End' lads name for Mosciis ?

I think the Oscars 'Best Picture' mix up is one of the best stories to come out of any awards ceremony - something I never watch.
Price Waterhouse Cooper must have had someone 'moonlighting' on their books to cock that up!
I'll stick to singing, and dancing, in the rain 3G.
But I could be tempted to to go Tra La La La, Lala La La , One banana, Two Bannan, Three Banana four.........................
Instead of The Oscars they could rename it The Banana Splits and keep on slipping up.

Here's an older photo c1928. This was posted on the Bygone Bedlington site by Tracey Temple with the comment :- 'My Aunty is trying to remember some of the children in this photo, taken approximately 1928/29 at the Infant school that was opposite St Cuthberts. if anyone can fill in any gaps for her she will be very happy! She is coming up to 95, to give an indication of the age the kids will be now.'
Tracey asked me to post the photo here to see if anyone in the photo can be identified, naturally as a distant relative to the members on here.

On the surface it looks like the Alnwick Garden CEO, Mark Brassell, knows who's back to scratch!
Do we know what interest rate, if any, this proposed loan will attract?

January 2 this year, on Bedlington Remembered, Ian Foster posted a picture taken in Bedlington Social Club 1974. One of the men is identified as Joe Steel. Could it be the same one?
Don't think so CL - I would say that's his son at the Market Place club, 1974. For eating & drinking of various luxury goods, around 1956, at The Howard Arms the then Guiness World Record holder is said to have been 47. But I could be totally wrong.

The Howard Arms gets an entry in the Bedlington Timeline document compiled by local historians :- 1956 Joe Steel, Bedlington’s champion eater was at it again. The then 42 year old munched his way through a 4 1/2 Ib steak and kidney pie about 1 foot in diameter and 3 1/2 inches deep in 17 1/2 minutes. to break another record and gain another championship by beating 24 year old Ted Stoddard of Ashington. The event was held in the Howard Arms, Bedlington on Monday August 6th.
On the 23rd February 2016 this post was made on the Facebook group Bedlington Renenbered by Stephen Steel :- my great great grandfather joe steel bedlington sausage eating champion 1960's

James Craik I remember Joe from Waverly avenue. Young Joe still lives there. Big family still in Bedlington. Nice bloke, my dad used to tell me about him eating sausage and he travelled to France to win an eating competition.
Other comments on sixtownships group :-
Lawrence Pattison :- He went to the Town Moor Hoppings and people paid to see him eat
Robert Nicholson :- Joe used to enter all types of food eating compatitions at the Howard.
Scott Campbell :- My grandma was barmaid at the Howard and she remembers the eating and drinking competitions. Often talks about them.
Mike Irvine Lived opposite my parents on Millbank Road, could also eat pies by the plate full.

Are they Bedlington mechanics? Never seen them play in a strip like that 50s/60s unless it is before that time.
Seen many photos with Bill Pearcey in Pete so would say it was the 50s. The lass that uploaded the photo didn't know who had coloured the Black & White photo so don't know about the blue colour.
@Ovalteeny might know if they ever played in that colour.

Everyone in this world can draw.
You shouldn't compare what you draw against any other drawing, sketch or painting, if you enjoy doing it then do it..
Oxford English Dictionary definition of Modern Art :- ....art of a style marked by a significant departure from traditional styles and values, in particular that created between the late 19th and the late 20th centuries..........
Eggy1948 definition of Modern Art :- it's what ever you want
Art Critic :- should not be allowed to have a comment.
Interpreting a work done by any artist should come in two sentances :-
1) I like that. Where the word like doesn't mean anything but can mean whatever you like.
2. I don't like that. Where the word like means 'Not on my house walls'.
I used to doodle, on A3 sheets of paper used as a desk pad, at work in the late 60s (as I was so efficient I had loads of spare time to while away!) and kept some of my doodles but I think they got moved from box to box, house to house that I have no idea where they are. I was proud of them, that's art.
Lets get your art out, and post in this topic, for the lads & lasses of this site to be an art critic, for fun of course, so you can compare one person's interpretation with another.
I did keep a few of my pics, out of the stuff that was boxed over the years, and kept them in a folder, that I have easy access and it's my art that still makes me smile today eg. tribute to the death of Walt Disney (1966) :-

But (as far as I know) Ashington doesn't have a forum so I thought I would trespass on the goodwill of Bedlington. After all, mining families were all in the same boat.
Haffy - never seen an Ashington community forum - only the group they have on Facebook - 8,588 members. Never seen what photos etc. they have on the Facebook site as it's a 'Closed Group' and you have to join to view the Photos.

I see there are 86 members in the 'PAST PUPILS OF WESTRIDGE SECONDARY SCHOOL BEDLINGTON' that Foxy has posted the link for in a previous comment - might not all be of the 'more mature members' but should be some to boost your reunion do.

Hi Eggy,
Thanks for the reply. In fact I never actually lived in Bedlington - I lived in (dare I say it) Ashington. But (as far as I know) Ashington doesn't have a forum so I thought I would trespass on the goodwill of Bedlington. After all, mining families were all in the same boat.
HPW has kindly told me what happened in your locality and I expect it was exactly the same in Ashington.
