Thank you so much, you have made my day. My dad was called Bill Purdy and had a few different jobs at the co-op, before he had to give up work due to the loss of his sight and other health problems he worked in thr warehouse with a Mr Savage. A cousinof my Dad Tommy Thomas who sadly recently passed away said my dad was a bit of a practical joker, but know the job that meant the most to my dad was looking after the horses. Tommy told me that one day when he was a young lad he was out helping deliver milk with my dad when a lady gave him a sweet, he said he had never even seen a sweet before, my dad said let me have a look, then promptly gave the sweet to the horse, Tommy said he was devistated, and when he told his mam she gave my dad a right ear bashing. Its the usual story I wish i had asked my dad more, and had just got the chance to ask Tommy when he passed away, so hearing your stories means a lot.

I think we should gnomeinate Wilf to switch the lights on, he could play his guitar and sing there is no place like gnome.

Wouldnt it be nice to have a building in Bedlington where people could visit and learn about the history of Bedlington, our own little museum, I couldnt think of a better place to have it. yes i know im dreaming, but sometimes dreams come true. Good luck Danial my fingers are crossed.

Hi Wilma, thank you for telling me about your memories you must have had loads of fun playing around the old hall, it was supposed to be haunted by a maid who had hung herself. I would have loved to have seen it and looked around inside, and i didnt realise Bells Place continued down to the park I would love to hear more of you memories of Bedlington. My Dad used to talk a lot about a friend called Fenwick, my Dad worked at the co-op until1969, I wonder if it was the same person, cant be many people called Fenwick, I will ask my mam. Thank you.

Hi Lee, my family also lived and worked at Hirst Head Farm from the 1890s until the 1920s. If you go to History Hollow you will find quite a lot of information, my family were called Latty and Todd.

Trying to get my bearings here, are the plans a building where the Nothumberland Arms is now, and is the archway where they keep the bins part of the original building in the plans. Thank you John you always come up trumps, very interesting.

Just come back from my holiday in south Herefordshire, You would love it down there Keith, we were amazed at the amount of sloe berry bushes there were in the woods and hedgerows you could hic till your hearts content. Elderberry wine mmmmmm

By the way Maggie, one of the stories my dad used to tell me about Hollymount Hall, was that there was a tunnel that came out a the church, wonder if it was true?

Yes i did realise it was built for a vicar,(who was it built for) I meant his name. Thank you threegee for the information, I love hearing the stories of old buildings and the people who lived in them. My parents lived at Hollymount Hall during the 50's which was probably where my interest was sparked, for years Iv wondered what stories the old vicarage held.

We know quite a lot about St Cuthberts Church but what about the vicarage? Its one of, or is the largest house in Bedlington, does anyone know when it was built, who it was built for? Those walls must have a lot of stories to tell, does anyone have any old photographs?

Crikey Keith thats a biggin, what do u feed it on, or should I not ask, I had heard of some missing bunnies.

Last time I went to the Three Horse Shoes was about 2008 and I was not impressed, so never been back until last night. Now I am impressed, it was quite busy even thought it was raining cats and dogs, nice friendly atmosphere, the staff could not have been more attentive, and the food was delicious. I will be going again.

Yes Maggi e my hubby and I were talking about it last night, we were just saying how we had nev er heard of that kind of thing happening before, then it happens to us, but not so extreme though, bet the owner of the jag wasnt very happy, and as this is the second time this has happened to one of his buildings i think his days as an architect are numbered.

I thought I would share this with everyone as a warning. My son called in tonight after work just as I was going out, he dashed upto the bathroom, next thing I knew he was shouting on me to go upstairs quickly. He had gone into the bathroom and smelt burning, our mirror on the window cill had been reflecting the sun onto the UPVC window, and it had caught fire, he quickly threw water on it and put it out. I dread to think what would have happened if he hadnt called in. So anyone with a mirror on a window cill if I were you I,d move it, you might not be so lucky. Very scary.
