  1. i don't have any nice pictures of the town, however i do have some rather fine images of things that have been left behind on market day, greggs pasties left in unusual places and a multitude of dazzling saturday-night-offerings taken on a sunday morning. i too would like to exhibit these pictures to the interneters and would also like some help. cheers :D

I have found that any pic larger than 100k (approx) will not upload.

  2. All very cavalier guys, when did it become ok for violence on the streets? I bet you'd all be whimpering if it happened to you. 'Humour', there's enough of the sick variety in some postings hereabouts. I just hope potential visitors don't think that you are typical of the "enlightened" views of local people.

  3. We live in an enlightened age my dear.

    Really Dearest

    1. To give spiritual or intellectual insight to:

"Enlighten the people generally, and tyranny and oppression of body and mind will vanish like evil spirits at the dawn of day" Thomas Jefferson.

    2. To give information to; inform or instruct.

  4. Further to the Advocaat theme, I just purchased some Co-op lemonade (51p for 2 litres, from, er, the Co-op) and am now drinking me down some Snowball.

By jingo, why wasn't I told earlier how good dem Snowballs taste? Man alive, they is good.

No wonder the craze of Snowballing seems to be sweeping the nation.

Just added your blog to SU, wait and see :D

  5. I'm thinking about advertising a free week's childcare at Bedlington Bears Nursery, funded Pre-school, and Out of Schools Club in the Wansbeck publication 'In Touch'. What do you think? Does anybody actually read it. All advice and opinions welcome.

A few years back I had my own business in the town and the only advertising worth the fee was Yellow Pages.

  6. In a couple of Bedlington maps, what I think is the Bank Top Hotel, is shown under two different names on the same site. As the "Puddlers Arms" in 1897, and then as the "Bank Top Hotel" in 1936!

Was the Puddlers Arms renamed as the Bank Top Hotel, or was it built as a totally different building?

And if so, when did the change or new building occur? My feeling is that perhaps the Puddlers Arms was converted into part of the Craggs row cottages and two story housing project.

There is a map in Evan Martins booklet "Bedlington Iron and Engine Works" dated 1858 indicate a building where the Bank Top is but doesn't identify it. Places of note are the "Railway Inn", Puddlers Row and Keelmans Row. For those whose interests stretch beyond Hooters this may prove of interest.

  7. It seems that Morpeth can get enough interest in lighting up the town. I was just looking at this weeks crop of Northumberland pictures on www.northumberland-cam.com, and he has a pretty good set of pictures of Morpeth,s Christmas lights.

Do they have more local pride there? Or what is the problem!

    Joe

Not too many folk bother with lights here Joe, they are too busy trying to avoid the wrath of Jesus.
