  1. It’s gone! My Dad’s birthplace: there should be a blue plaque on the wall “Frank Hutton born here 14/11/1933” and “Don Hutton born here 1939”, but there’s no wall, no blue plaque, just a white door with 24 on it! Can anyone please explain this mystery, solve the problem? You’re all cleverer than me:- please advise.

  2. thank you very much @Canny lass , please don’t apologise for having a life outside Bedcouk! I’m delighted to have found that, after many, many years at the coal face the biggest privilege of being retired is the luxury of time, to please myself and in no longer having to organise, prioritise and meet deadlines. I’m happy to ask a question and equally happy to wait for an answer; luckily, so far, nothing is urgent or essential. I live my life mainly according to the weather and available daylight. I haven’t worn a watch in years and my wall calendar in the kitchen displays the picture I currently like the most and not whatever month it might be. That calendar is probably 2018, but not sure.
Thank you very much for clarifying the party politics of your country: beyond “wondering 💭” I really like to understand things outside of my experience. I’m not political at all but suspect that mostly the wrong people get themselves into politics and government in order to pursue their own ambitions but, of course, not all; there are always exceptions. I’ll keep an eye out for further developments in your government, keeping my fingers crossed that it goes smoothly and positively but, because human nature is involved, I suspect more turbulence ahead. I’m pleased you’ve still got your crayfish ahead of you again this year and will conduct my own small celebration in my garden when the time comes - Summer’s end? Regards Roseanne xx :fish:

  3. Nah! “Everything”  includes TV cookery/lifestyle/documentaries etc and anything about anyone/anywhere, Saw a couple of poncy chefs enjoying meals in Scandinavia, I love to learn about people/culture/lifestyle/history/tradition as nauseam; hungry mind. Looks like a grand lifestyle in Sweden, respect your/their? Jante Law , I’m getting old and am frequently irritated by the younger English peeps with their over-exaggerated sense of entitlement and self-esteem. I recognise the problem is essentially my change in perception but I still get irritated, wishing to find a quiet place somewhere. Enough, I love hearing from you but mustn’t intrude on your quality family time, long overdue. Kindest regards, R🌈x

It makes for very long reading when the whole post is quoted. Is it still ok to just highlight the relevant extract of text and use the 'quote' button that appears with the highlighting. I don't know why I'm asking this. Of course you can do that. I just did it two minutes ago! Too much celebrating this week: England, Sweden football and yesterday the biggest holiday of the year in Scandinavia - Midsommer (nothing to do with murders, mystery and intrigue) more to do with the summer solstice, vodka, pickled herring and new potatoes (in that order). Food for kings - I am told!

Hmm @Canny lass, I’m struggling to respond without “quote “, but that’s likely my unfamiliarity and inexperience. Plodding along here 😁xx

Then it should give you something to do while in isolation and perhaps give even more knowledge about your home-town.

If the time seems to be dragging on your own you can always look up one of the older quizes to help pass the time.

Do take care, Do follow the recommendations and don't forget to wash your hands before and after handling the neighbours hedge-tr!immer. Hope the time flies by without incident.

😂 @Canny lass, I gave the bliddy contraption back without using it- I value my appendages 😁🌈 xx

  6. And thank you very much @Alan Edgar (Eggy1948)Xx I’ll have to read this a couple more times before I start to understand it!! I’ll also take up @Canny lass‘s suggestion that I get to the library and see what I can do there. I’ve just been mucking about with this iPad and (I think) I’ve enlarged a section of an old map indicating Puce Bush Farm and saved it in the Apple book app?? You’ll find out if/when I manage to post it to you 🤞🏻👩🏼‍💻🙇🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️(not a patch on your moving emojis!) I’m a very untechnical (not a real word according to this iPad!) sort of person but I’ll work with it slowly and take frequent breaks so I don’t make it feel like hard work. Best regards dear Sir, watch this space 😁🌈x

Going towards Bedlington after the gates to the stables was another row of houses that extended to where the Netherton waggon way crossed the road these were called Sunnyside for some reason. I used to get off the No3 bus from Ashington tech then walk up the waggon way home after a pint in the Lord Clyde. I remember the barman in there towered above me and I am over 6ft! I had a look over the bar to see if he was stood on something! Can't remember the name of the second pub though.

Hello Bluebarby, sir! Your name has been mentioned in dispatches so far?x So great to meet you in the ether 😉xx

Pil,the sprightly old Lady I mentioned above,is Christopher's Mother, and they the closest Mother and Son I think I have ever encountered!

Chris is a Lecturer at Newcastle University, and teaches teacher's.

He has degrees in music theory, plays piano as good if not better than anyone you are likely to hear these days..classical and every other type of music also!

    Altogether a really smashing bloke.

June 2021- found reference to Christopher Million at University of Northumbria, THINK I’ve forwarded it to Bedlingtoncouk 🌈xx

    Hi Tony!

Frankie Heron, and he's Brother Jackie, lived with their Parents, directly opposite my Family home in Hollymount Square,in Bedlington, from

the first dozen houses built not long after the war.[somewhere around 1947-8 ish]

They were two big smart fella's,Frankie being the extrovert, always shouting over a loud hello to my family, out in the street, taking photo's of life in the

street, all of the bairns playing, sitting us on the wall for group shots, etc.

I have got Frankie to thank forever, for taking the only shot in existence of my little Spaniel/lakeland terrier dog, sitting on the wall, like an ornament, posing for him!

I would have been roughly 12 yrs old,and my little dog got killed on the road beside the "store"..[Co-op],by a speeding opencast coal lorry, not long after the pic was taken.

This would have been about 1956,when Bedlington  suddenly went from being a quiet,traffic-free road,[the main street],to Tulip's coal lorries thundering down the street overladen with coal, speeding down Bedlington bank, spewing smoke-screens of exhaust fumes,on the way to Bebside Pit to be unloaded at the washery plant.

Jackie was very reserved, but still very sociable,in a more quieter way.

Old..[to us kids!] Mr and Mrs Heron, were a lovely couple, and Mrs Heron and My Mother were very close friends for years.

Frankie had the nickname of "Spanky",at the Doctor Pit,probably cos when he went out,he always went dressed to the knocker, immaculate, his ginger top always vaselined doon!!

When we talk aboot thi gud aad days,THEY WERE gud aad days,in a proper aad-fashioned pit community.

Thinking back,a suppose everybody got dressed in "Sunday best",when they went anywhere special, cos most folks had nowt except work clothes,

and "best" clothes.....nae big wardrobes full of designer-wear in them days!

Sorry to hear of Frankie's passing ,Tony, thanks for the info.

    R.I.P. Frankie.

Aah, HPW, what was your little dog’s name, and his/her name, please? D’you have that photo?  I’m a strong dog lover, they’re as much a part of our history in my belief 🌈xx
