  1. I am trying but not much success, my plan was to not smoke at tea break have only one at lunch break but I failed on that one, ah well there's always next week to try it again.

Glad to hear you lot have stoped smoking I will probably end up with the Guinness shakes when the smoking ban comes in.

    :D

Havent you tried those patches and gum? I've never smoked myself, but they've worked for others!

  2. yeah and there !*!@# and quite pathetic lyrics! who wrote them father ted "my lovely horse"

    My lovely horse,

    running through the field.

    Where are you going

with your fetlocks blowing in the wind?

I want to shower you with sugar lumps,

    and ride you over fences.

Polish your hooves every single day,

and bring you to the horse dentist.

    My lovely horse,

    you're a pony no more.

Running around with a man on your back,

like a train in the night, yeah

like a train in the night...

    Father Ted is excellent.

  3. By now everyone with an interest in science or computers has stared in wonder at pictorial representations of the amazing fractal called the Mandelbrot set. If you are one of the few remaining holdouts, then do yourself a favor and explore the full color illustrations of this infinite mathematical labyrinth (one readily available source is James Gleick's popular book Chaos).

These images, depicting seemingly endless layers of complexity and geometric inventiveness, strike deep intellectual and emotional chords. A large part of the magic is due to the fact that as you plunge deeper into the Mandelbrot set you encounter ever-more-tiny copies of itself within the riot of detail. This "worlds within worlds" aspect, or self-similarity, calls to mind the famous poem of William Blake:

"To see a World in a Grain of Sand...

And a Heaven in a Wild Flower

Hold Infinity in the Palm of your hand

    And Eternity in an hour."

  4. The british PS3 wont be any different than the rest - theres always rumors flying around the internet, personally i dont pay attention to any of them.

Most All of the "Sony PS3 this and PS3 that" rumors have already turned out to be false - so we'll wait and see.

Already the PS3 games titles is building - but i havent seen any yet that have made me want to buy the console at its full price! (Most of them i've already seen on Xbox 360)

I will buy one eventually - probably this christmas when they are a bit cheaper.

  5. I like to read books, mostly the ones i'm reading now are factual i.e. Javascript / PHP books.

The last fiction book i read was one of the Dark Tower books by Stephen King, and i liked the Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown too.

I'm not fussed what i read really, as long as its good.

  6. An interesting topic Monsta!

    Mine is a frog.

Has anyone visited Bedlington's newest petshop yet? Whilst on my regular Saturday bike ride I stopped to marvel at the sign: knowing the level of intellegence of some of the town's inhabitants it has pictures of a cat and a dog upon it, subtitled with the words 'cat' and 'dog'... just in case any of us got confused. Well done Petshop of Bedlington!

I love my cat, i got her from the Cat & Dog rescue center last year. The vet says she's a Somali, but i dont care, she could be a regular alley cat for me - i LOVE her!

She's so happy and friendly - you can see a picture of her if you click on my name, i have her as my profile pic.

    :)

  7. Gosh! I sound like a geek now!

Haha, i think we all have a bit of geek in us when it comes to computer games. I dont think Nintendo is all that bad, i remember playing Mario Kart with my mate when the N64 was released, thought it was brilliant!

And that eel in the lake on Mario 64 scared the living daylights out of me!

But yeah, Zelda is my all time fave when it comes to Nintendo. Majoras Mask was good, but not as good!

    :D

  8. funny how nintendo DS is out selling th psp by miles ..and have sold every Wii so far produced..which they make a profit on ...unlike microsoft and sony ..sony lose 150 -200 quid from every PS3 thay sell!! Its all first person blasters on the sony and microsoft machines .. i like funny games with bright colours :P
    • When did i mention PSP / DS sales?
    • By the way, they change every quarter.

    • Nintendo didnt release an awful lot of consoles, most of which had to be returned due to faulty controller straps
    • Nintendo make a profit on their consoles because it only costs them around £100 to manufacture the whole thing.
    • Unlike Microsoft and Sony? What do you mean? They havent lost money yet.
    • Oh, Sony lose 150 - 200 quid for each PS3 they sell? They spend £416 on manufacturing the 'basic' console, of which around £260 is spent on the motherboard alone.
    • It's common for video-game console makers to lose money on hardware, and make up for the loss via video game-title sales

"This is all good news for customers, who get all that computing power for a relative bargain. iSuppli called the PlayStation 3 an "engineering masterpiece," with a motherboard that looks more like that of an enterprise server or network switch than a games console.

The console provides "more processing power and capability than any consumer electronics device in history," iSuppli said."

So how can you complain? Who cares wether the toffs at Sony lose money - i want a bargain!

You can keep Nintendo - with its 'funny games with bright colours"

    :P

  9. I think I would prefer that to the Wii, simply so i dont hit anyone lol I think the Wii would have been even better if it had the graphics of the Xbox 360 or the PS3, but nintendo seem to have kept with the game cube graphics instead, realy dont understand why.

The Nintendo Gamecube died a sad death, simply because there was no variation in games / graphics from console to console. In fact most of the games for the Gamecube had already been previously released for the N64. And how many Gameboy games are also available for the DS and other Nintendo consoles? It gets boring after a while.

Its all Mario this and Yoshi that, with a bit of Wario and Princess Peach thrown in for good measure.

Must admitt though, Ocarina of time is still one of my all time favorites! :D

I think the Wii is aimed at a younger audience. Maybe Nintendo didnt intend it to be, but thats what their consoles always end up as being, now that Microsoft is on the scene to contend with Sony. Nintendo dont stand a chance.

  10. only one ive not tried out of them is the xbox 360 whats that like? I fancied that dead rising game on it but ive seen some bad reviews about it. no neither would I dont fancy having a helmet on controling things lol Ive read the new PS3 wont play all PS2 games even though its supposed to sony are going to release updates for its firmware that will allow more PS2 games to play.

Yeah - the Xbox 360 was exactly the same when it was first released. Wouldnt play the older Xbox games.

It will play all PS1 games though. I also heard that rumor that Sony was going to stop the consoles from playing pre-owned games. So basically any game you bought, once it was installed on your PS3, it wouldnt play on anyone elses.

Apparently they can do this - its Sonys way of clamping down on piracy and whatever, but they didnt bother at the last minute. (I asked an employee of Gamestation and he 'confirmed' it).

I'm glad they didnt, because they would have killed the PS3 if they did.

  11. lol I think the PS3 is going to be great but I think its price tag will put some people off buying it, especially since games like grand theft auto 4 are going on all consoles at the same time. But Ive heard that the next GTA for next gen consoles will be exclusive to PS3. Complete change of subject but did You see in the paper other day about a new control pad for games? its a helmet and you control games with your mind. It would prob be ok as a novelty but cant really beat a real pad.

I'm gonna wait untill the price falls, then i'm selling off my PS2 with most of my games (holding on to the good ones) and putting that towards a PS3.

I'm looking forward to FF13, in fact thats probably one of the only reasons to buy a PS3 in my book!

As for brain reading helmet controller... er, even if that did happen - i'd never use it!

  12. Hi Im definitly going ahead with this as everything is in the works :) I cant give an exact date right now but this year between now and August it will be open :) Would you or anyone else be interested in retro consoles/games? as well as the new consoles/games etc.

Hi, just about everyone i know has at least one console in their home - mainly PS2, XBOX and XBOX 360. Also, the handelds are very popular, i see Granger Games stock of PSP games are increasing every month, whereas the DS stock seems static.

In terms of retro games, a few people i know buy them, including me every now and then. Namely SNES, and Sega Saturn games - but only the good classic ones! I think if you stocked just any retro games, you'd have trouble shifting them. You know, these games are hard to come by, so if you did decide to try them out, i suppose you'd get people coming from outside of Bedlington to your shop.

In general, if your thinking of stocking retro consoles and games, i'd start off with small stock and see how it went from there. The latest Console games are always going to be the most popular, so concentrate on those.

Keep an eye out with those other game shops though - you'll pick up what works and what doesnt!

  13. Thanks :) Its going to be better than traveling to other areas like Blyth, Ashington and Cramlington for games, consoles and DVD's. I was wanting to add some more questions to the poll but wont allow more than 3. But I also wanted to ask would anyone be interested in the trade in scheme like granger games, gamestation do? and also selling your old games/DVD's to me when I open? Just wondering if anyone would actually do that or want to do that?

Some prices at gamestation/game are beyond a joke I stopped going there when i saw the price tag. My prices will be very competitive with granger games but not having to travel to blyth, ashington and cramlington will save money anyway not having to pay for the bus or for petrol.

The trade in scheme is one of the reasons why those stores are so successfull in the first place, I would be more than happy with a similar exchange scheme!.

Granger games has a database with every game on it, and they have a certain price for each game that they buy - depending on how old it is and the condition etc. I think a similar system would benefit you too.

I would be happy to sell off some games i dont play on, in fact i've got one or two which i could probably donate, as they are totally naff!

One thing i was wondering, would you only sell PS2, PS3, Xbox and Xbox 360 games, or would you also stock older consoles and games, such as N64 etc?

  14. I'll have deals like granger games definitly not expensive like game, its ridiculous the prices they charge. Theres going to be a home delivery service also basicaly for people who cant get out to the store.

    Thanks Brian

Wow, excellent idea, i've been saying we need one for years!

Most of us have to go to Blyth or Cramlington to visit Granger Games / Gamestation or Game.

To be honest i dont buy from Game / Gamestation because like you said, their prices are close to a joke.
