  1. You ASSUMED that I had not seen any films etc.

OH and BTW I do 1000+ miles a week 48 weeks a year and have done for the past 26 years.

I agree with you 100% about the higher the speed in an built up area the more severe the punishment should be.

But I think some of the speed limits need looking at with regards to some of the limits set at on particular roads, the Barrington Road is a classic example 30mph the whole length is a "JOKE" yes byall means where the stables are or the entrance to the industrial estate that should be 30 and the rest should at least be 40 so I feel sorry for yourself and all those who have been caught out by the mobile camera ( he has a field day along there ).

My previous neighbour who is in her 60,s was caught TWICE within the space of an hour along there doing 36.

  2. I attended a speed awareness session in October. Now if you had been caught doing 34 mph in 30 zone by traffic cop, chances are you would get a bit of a lecture and a warning and allowed to go. Speed cameras wether they are fixed or mobile do not give you that luxury ie 10% + 2 mph (the trainer at the session told us that they are supposed to, but it is easier just to prosecute the lot rather that sift the borderline ones out). I was caught on Barrington Rd doing 36 mph by a mobile camera. That is the 1st time in 30 odd years of driving that I have been caught in a car, Ive been nicked in a truck a few times, thats why I elected to take the course cos another 3 points would have put me on 12 (6 come off this year) If you (sizsells) had seen some of the films of staged stopping distances , even at 32 mph against 30mph you would be extremely suprised. They showed the aftermath of an accident in Newbrough nr Hexham last year. A 14 year old was killed outside the school. It was calculated that the car was doing 35 mph when the brakes were applied, the police say that there was nothing wrong with the drivers reaction time, just that there was insufficient distance to stop in time at that speed (the car had gone round a bend inside the speed restriction), Had the driver reacted in the same way doing 30mph, not only would the victim had lived, the car would have not even hit him. Those sessions last for 4 hours and they really open your eyes for you. I for one have changed my driving habits.

Your making an assumption that I have not seen any of the films you refer to or infact the aftermath of RTA,s.

I can assure you that I have.

  3. Answer to your opinion Siszell I find that doing a driving test every 10 years is not really an issue. I am talking about reckless speeding which has nothing to do with competenceor ability to handle a car it is just plain recklessness. My husband has been on one of these speeding courses given out that he was driving at 34 mls per hour and given to him 10 yards of a no speed limit sign coming out of Ashington towards Pegswood so we do put our hands up and admit It can happen but when some idiot is deliberately putting others lives in danger something needs to be done. We can't keep ignoring this.

Yes and I fully understand why you feel agrivated at the idiot driving as fast as he was and not getting punished.

  4. I was travelling past Stead Lane tonight on my way to Bedlington and I could'nt believe it when at the bend next to the turn in at the Terrier came a stupid imbicile racing at least 90 mls an hour. The rubber he burnt was just stupid but he's buying the tyres. I will stop myself there as he probably doesn't have any tread on them anyway. I really can't believe how many crackpots we have on the roads at the minute or am I getting old. I really feel we need cameras down that stretch even though I'm not usually in favour of them but its just a matter of time before someone is killed. Incidently we live on the main road up to Bedlington and my husband has had two mirrors replaced through people not pulling out when passing or braking to let others through. Its relly scarey if you happen to be sitting in the car as they wait till the lat minute to break. Is everone on a .death wish

I agree with you about "some" of the idiots on the roads, but your wrong about the speed cameras because they will put someone doing 34 in the same category and the same punishment as the idiot doing 60+.

I know BOTH are classed as speeding one downright dangerous however I think EVERYONE who drives cannot put there hand on there heart and say that they have NEVER broken the speed limit whilst in charge of a motor vehicle regardless of where or what they are driving.

I do think there are some terrible drivers on the roads irrispective of age or gender and I for one think it should be mandatory that we all take a driving test say every 10 years and if you fail you would have to resit the test until you pass...Yes that will have consequences on some folks possibly myself included however it would weed out the bad and unsafe.

Your comments about where you live and the loss of wing mirrors is down to common courtesy some drivers don,t have ANY, if say there are vehicles double parked or the road is narrowed because of parked vehicles I will let someone coming in the opposite direction to me through first and the amout of ignorrant people who do not acknowledge it by saying thank you in some way is disgraceful ..........no manners you see..... it used to be taught and part of learning to drive when I took my test ...............omg does that mean I would FAIL the mandatory 10 year test I suggested.........

  5. there was one there about 2 years ago lasted two months then closed because no one used it! it is the oval most people down there are unemployed or chav's (sorry but its true!) so unless your offering it for free you'll have little business!

I was,nt as blunt as Monsta but I agree... remember location location location

  6. Britain is still a great country, as regards to the 1939 quote i meant it as a example of British resolve and it's not too late to rekindle pride in your nations achievements. We have similar problems in this country with illegal immigrants, our leaders seem to have no answers on keeping them out of the country until they are processed for entry into Aust legally. there has been 200 plus boats arrive on our shores in the last 12 months filled with illegal male immigrants mainly from Afghanistan.

In 1939 this country had a "leader" something which has,nt been seen since. With the possible exception of the Iron Lady....... however I,m not condoning her politics just her single mindedness and strenght... typical woman and theres nowt wrong with that

  7. simple joey bartons an ex resident of hmp and therefor through away any hope of playing for his country!

Not wanting to throw water on your fire Monsta but Tony Adams went on to captain England in 1994 after being in nick in 1990, Joey Barton may still be in with a chance if he continues playing the way he is capable of, I think he atleast deserves a chance.

  8. Its never to late to revive national pride, maybe Churchill and the British people should have said its too late in 1939 ?

I dont think there is ANY comparisons to make with regards to 1939 and the late 60,s/early 70,s which is when something should have been done. We get more fervor here over the national bloody football team entering the world cup than we have for the real National Pride we should have in our once great country.

  9. "Actions speak louder than words"

We should know ALL about that our local MP,s have been doing it for decades and they have ALL talked !*!@# .

Strange really he talkes about a "national identity" and patriotism this should have been done years ago, anyone who is/was interested it the future/state of this country will tell you that, but those in power were scared incase it was seen as racism and unfortunatly the day it was deemed that flying OUR national flag etc etc became second to fear of insulting those who WANTED to live here well in my opinion its to late.

Like it or loath it, its here to stay and no ammount of banging the national identity drum will make any difference.

MULTICULTURAL SOCIETY = impossible now as it should/could have been.

Remember the old saying........When in Rome do as the Romans do.... well that is what those in power should have encouraged.

  10. To be fair Merlin NCC never said it was going to look at never mind solve the parking problems there. When you got the daft Toucan crossing idea binned we used that to push the other traffic problems there hoping for some satisfactory resolution. Unfortunately the promised site meeting with NCC and Police has never happened yet but it is being pushed as hard as we can. NCC were already going to put the yellow lines down and the Town Council backed the idea.

The lollipop man asked to be moved because of the abuse he was getting and no doubt the imminent accident he could foresee. It was reported Bedlington needs 4 lollipop men/women and NCC are interviewing two or three potentials at the moment.

I think being late for work because of someone's inconsiderate parking is unacceptable; I had the same problems when I lived there and found a bit of 'direct action' rewarding!

One last bit, those metal poles just concreted in on the side paths, do they allow disabled use of those footpaths? Doesn't look like a 3 foot+ gap to me and if not would force wheelchair users to go onto the road.

No disrespect Mr R but yellow lines wont work I have seen people park on the chevrons for the crossing on a regular basis so a bit of yellow paint will only make it look bonny.

  11. I didn't say that you did! I was mainly making the same comparison as you. The fuel companies and the government don't want alternative sources of bio-diesels & fuels due to the taxation on current fuels just like the pharmaceuticals companies don't want alternative medicines available as if people started using cheaper alternatives then they wouldn't make any money.

It was,nt that clear then was it

And your also wrong if you "think" they dont want alternative fuels because believe me it will be treat as ANOTHER source of income for them.

I also said the that the pharmaceutical companies had CURES for disease,s which they did,nt want to introduce because of the financial implications.

Alternative medicines have been practiced for centuries and there are arguments for and against.

I,m not as informed as you appear to be with regards to the medical bodies future plans with regards to alternative medicines, however having walked around the Metro Center in the past and being accosted by Chinese looking individuals who have ancient cures for all sorts of ailments which I dont suffer from, makes me think registering bonafide herbalist,s etc is,nt such a bad idea its about credentials and peace of mind.

Oh and I have used accupuncture in the past to great effect and I prefer not to take medication unless absolutly neccessary so to an extent I,m an advocate of alternative medicine.

It was ALWAYS on the cards only Man U/Fergie did,nt value him at £35 million.

  13. Weren't Honda leading the forefront in researching Hydrogen fuel cells, only issue they had the trouble with was actually harnassing it due to the flammability of Hydrogen.

    BBC article

Mrs Brettly practices complimentary and alternative therapies and at the moment they are attempting to pass laws against the use & purchase of (predominently chinese) herbal medicines unless you are a registered homeopath etc. A way of controlling how many people can obtain and use alternative medicines.

They seem to forget the fact that these medicines originated from our ancesters who experimented with natural remedies. If you start getting into the whole "Big Pharma" argument it's a whole new can of worms however.

    I never mentioned "alternative" medicine.

The "Pharma" Industry is no different from the Petrolium Industry the parallels are there to be seen.
