  1. I think that really is a compelling argument and highlights concerns some of us have with the Tesco development here. I think the best thing to happen recently is Morrison's taking the Netto store on as that at least counterbalances Tesco and stops us being a one supermarket monopoly Town.

I still think the commercial future for small towns such as ours lies with niche retailers, traders with a high degree of knowledge in their products and able to offer a more personalised service. That carries its own needs of course, one being the overheads during what could be a long start up faze. I will be very interested in the rents and rates associated with the new 'start-up' shops currently part of the Tesco development as even those niche retailers will have to compete with internet sales. Course if they have their heads screwed on they will develop their own web sites to grab regional, national even global trade!

I do think we are just about to see some places decimated and secondary market towns such as Bedders will be in the front line and that's why I believe an holistic commercial strategy is a necessity.

I sincerely hope its not to little to late :(

  2. The system is,nt designed for people like Keith who have worked and PAID in to this system for 40 years its designed for those who know how to use it to their advantage............. and take advantage they do irrispective of their ethenticity however I to object to us being the LAND OF MILK AND HONEY to all and sundry who come here from all the corners of the world and do no work or intend to (officially that is) pay nothing in to the system yet take great advantage of our political correctness and sponge , yet as I have said its there to be taken advantage of.

Try going to Iraq, India, Pakistan, Iran, Afghanistan, African countries etc etc and burn their national flag and see what happens to you, I doubt you will still recieve your benefits in those countries.

I,m not a racist before I get labled FAR from it I welcolm ANYONE regardles of colour or nationality but they should WORK pay taxes and obey the laws of our land, folks have laid their lives down so we can live our lives as we do and they should follow suit and if that upsets them well they should remember.

WE DID NOT ASK THEM TO COME HERE ........ THEY WANTED TO BE HERE.

Oh and btw sorry about going "off topic" I,m just on Keith side and folks like him.

  3. Keith,

You have to consider WDC always wanted to pedestrianise Front Street and all the ramifications that would have meant.

I know it's our twin town but couldn't they have picked a pronounceable name for this road!

Bedders would have been ideal to have something akin to the shopping centre at Cramlington where you have a large national supermarket at each end of the retail concourse. One end at the Monkey and the other at the Netto site with plenty of free parking either above or below the centre. Instead we get piecemeal developments which have actually detracted from the commercial possibilities. That should have been done 25 years+ ago and we would still be reaping the benefits now.

YES !*!@# council and !*!@# cooncilers, I KNOW I,m not the only one on here thats been saying this for DECADES way before this site went online ......... this town has been left to go to the dogs (excuse the pun)and these so called cooncilors have been yes men and women to the powers that be at the awld W.D.C but hey what do I know...........I KNOW I,m not daft, blind, deaf, stupid or a hinger on thats what we had as cooncilors PLENTY making their GOBS go but NO action.

  4. Shusssssssssssh OUR local M.P has given us his New Year Message in the N.P.L and how inspirational it is (NOT).

Well I,m all for democracy however how this pillock got in well its beyond me, typical bloody Labour nowts their fault he condems the new Government over their policies for the BIG cuts in local government he seems to forget that HIS lot in the old Wansbeck cooncil are in a bit of a pickle over £750,000 or is he unaware about that?

And I know thats just the tip of the iceberg, his lot turned a blind eye to a LOT of things in the Labour controled cooncils NATIONWIDE consequentally cut backs and I WILL REITERATE what I have said in the past and on other posts in the forum the cutbacks should start at the TOP.

He witters on about what is wrong with the new coalition and whilst I,m sure its not perfect OMG the mess his lot left us in, and it beggers belief that HE can criticize anyone he,s not exactly a model citizen himself and a very poor rolemodel however his illusions of grandure hopefully will be shortlived.

And another thing he says nothing about the previous government leaving an EMPTY piggy bank and a curt note saying theres nothing left well that will wrankle me till the day I die.

He also has the audacity to question the future of the flood defence an Morpeth well if HE was that concerned why did it not get sorted sooner when his lot were in "power". I don,t recall him opening his mouth then, I know he was,nt our "local" M.P then however he did have his "profile" and why did,nt our local M.P at the time get it sorted?

And to cap it all off he asks us to remember our troops are these the same ones TONY BLAIR and his band of idiots sent to fight an illigal war and innocent men, women and children have lost their lives for, familys grieving over lost ones and is he THAT FAR up his own !*!@# that he thinks we will FORGET them, the mans a bliddy IDIOT.

  5. I think you'll find 'the Royals' are paying towards it.

I'm no monarchist but I have great respect for the Queen, who must be the most dignified and respected figurehead of any country these days. She carries out what must be a pain in the !*!@# of a job very well and certainly sets an example.

On that note, a little story: many years ago, when I lived in Cheshire, some friends of I decided for a laugh to attend a major Horse Trials even that was taking place at a country park nearby. We spent a goodly proportion of the event in the beer tent, naturally, then went out to watch the action. I was standing at the rails and professed to not having a clue what was going on; a well to do lady behind me stepped forward and began explaining the points system, the faults and all that, and gave us good insight into horsemanship and so on. In fact, she talked to us young lads for a botu half an hour before being called away, and she was utterly charming and, it must be said, a great laugh. It was only after she'd left that one of my friends pointed out it was the Princess Royal, Princess Anne. Great girl, welcome for a pint with me anytime.

I personally think the ROYAL family are a GREAT asset to this once great country of ours and believe OUR Queen does a sterling job and does give us good value for money and its good to know they are paying towards it, as I said I do think they should.

I do think its just a shame this country is not as "patriotic" as it should be, it in my opinion is a major problem in society.......

  6. The sad truth is that most local people with get-up-and-go, simply get up and go.

There are quite a few reasons for this; some intrinsic, but others have much to do with local attitudes to success. We don't even celebrate our historic greats like other areas do! Is the reason why we still ignore this town's great engineers simply down to the fact that they were of "the wrong" political persuasion?

We did have had great engineers, unfortunately we have NEVER been blessed with GREAT cooncilors or a cooncil for that matter.

  7. LITTLE GIRL ON A PLANE

A Member of Parliment was seated next to a little girl on an airplane so he turned to her and said, "Do you want to talk? Flights go quicker if you strike up a conversation with your fellow passenger."

The little girl, who had just started to read her book, replied to the total stranger, "What would you want to talk about?"

"Oh, I don't know," said the M.P. "How about global warming, universal health care, or stimulus packages?" as he smiled smugly.

"OK," she said. "Those could be interesting topics but let me ask you a question first. A horse, a cow, and a deer all eat the same stuff - grass. Yet a deer excretes little pellets, while a cow turns out a flat patty, but a horse produces clumps. Why do you suppose that is?"

The M.P, visibly surprised by the little girl's intelligence, thinks about it and says, "Hmmm, I have no idea."

To which the little girl replies, "Do you really feel qualified to discuss global warming, universal health care, or the economy, when you don't know !*!@#?"

And then she went back to reading her book.

  8. I must admit that when the new government said they would be clamping down on the benefit cheats, they were refering to the royals.Obviously not when we are having to pay for a lavish wedding that we cannot afford!

It will cost a LOT less than supporting asylum seekers, illigal immigrants, dole cheats, keeping murders, peadophiles, rapists etc in prisons, SOME bent cooncill officials and M.P,s past AND present, sending money to other country,s where disasters have occurred even though these apparent "poor" countrys have a nuculear capability, wasting money and lives in an illigal no win war, supposed officials wasting money left right and centre,oh and did I mention SOME bent cooncil officials and M.P,s ? oh yes I did I just thought it needed reinforcing.

I personaly think the Royals should help pay towards it and set an example but thats just my opinion I,m SURE others will have theirs lol

  9. Never happen mate, just a load of spin like the shepherd era ie signing Granny grabber rooney. I honestly don't think that Andy Carrol is injured, I think fat Ashley has wrapped him in cotton wool so that when Spurs come calling with their millions they will have a fit player, I mean why risk playing him to get injured? That will only knock his price down and that's not how fat Spurs fan Ashley works!

Well I agree with Mr.Merlin....... however I think he will go to Man U....Hes an IDEAL player for

Granny/Money Grabber Rooney to play alongside.........

  10. One day a florist went to a barber for a haircut. After the cut, he asked about his bill, and the barber replied, 'I cannot accept money from you, I'm doing community service this week.' The florist was pleased and left the shop. When the barber went to open his shop the next morning, there was a 'thank you' card and a dozen roses waiting for him at his door.

Later, a cop comes in for a haircut, and when he tries to pay his bill, the barber again replied, 'I cannot accept money from you, I'm doing community service this week.' The cop was happy and left the shop. The next morning when the barber went to open up, there were a 'thank you' card and a dozen donuts waiting for him at his door.

Then a Member of Parliament came in for a haircut, and when he went to pay his bill, the barber again replied, 'I can- not accept money from you. I'm doing community service this week.' The Member of Parliament was very happy and left the shop. The next morning, when the barber went to open up, there were a dozen other Members of Parliament lined up waiting for a free haircut.

And that, my friends, illustrates the fundamental difference between the citizens of our country and the politicians who run it.

BOTH, POLITICIANS AND NAPPIES NEED TO BE CHANGED OFTEN AND FOR THE SAME REASON!

  11. I very strongly agree with the County on this, not because of the amount of money involved which is not large in the scheme of things but because of the principle. Wreaths laid on behalf of Northumberland are one thing but if councillors want to lay wreaths from them personally then they should pay for them personally. Having the public pay for their wreaths makes a mockery of the gesture.

And waste 300k on office revamps is ok? Thats the point in my opinion not the fact that a few of these greedy buggers want the money out of their expenses but they watch 300k go to waste.

  12. I don't think he is the highest paid on the NCC books..........

But you have to make savings where you can these days......

    ??????????????

    http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/top-stories/2010/11/11/northumberland-county-council-slammed-for-cutting-back-on-remembrance-wreaths-115875-22708115/

NOW I,M ANNOYED its absolutley CRIMINAL.

OH and when the lads and lasses came back from FIGHTING for OUR country and PROUDLY marched through Ashington and Morpeth (the ones who did come back that is.) Did you know that the majority had to buy there own refreshments.FACT.

Its times like this when I wish I could get to have CHAT with one or two of these buggers supposedly in charge.

  13. £490 A DAY and his pay cut amounts to £24 A DAY ITS BLOODY OBCENE .

Now just you wait and see how many of the REAL workers loose their jobs because of the disgusting wages these people are awarding themselves.

Yes I fully understand the times we live in and if a business OR a Cooncil is loosing money you have to look at WHY and you make changes and cut your cloth accordingly.

And do you think £24 a day will make a BIG dint in to the MILLIONS of pounds of cutbacks they have to make NO IT BLOODY WON,T.

I think they should START at the top and make their way down HOWEVER I bet they don,t.

And I still INSIST there will be people there MORE than capable of doing these "executive" jobs for a LOT less money. Just think of the money that could be saved, it alone will account for a pretty penny if the "boss,s" wages are anything to go by oh and his/their wage does not mention bonuses that he and they may recieve for organising the cut backs that WE are ALL about to experience.

And do they get any other "benefits" that WE pay for?

  14. It was run as a "do as I say cooncil" and "not a do as I do" .............and its been proven

I just hope its not wheels within wheels and the thieving buggers get off with it.

Its no different than someone coming in to YOUR house and thieving money from you......... would they get off with it if caught? I think not.

  15. So the "leader" of N.C.C reduced his wages on the Q.T....... Well well done him  mind you I think I could survive on £490 A DAY..... ASSUMING he works a 7 day week (NOT)or £179,000 a year <_< .

IF he was anything of an example he should have taken a massive pay cut and maybee keep some employees on, AND he wanted to keep it quiet, presumably to make him look a martyr.

Makes me wonder what sort of OUR money is wasted on these people with there fantastic salarys AND are they worth it? on the face of it I would say NO..... UNLESS its business as usual aka W.D.C and folks lining their pockets with OUR money,I,d dare say there a folks working there that could/would do the same job for a LOT less money AND probably do it better

    :innocent:
