  1. At the end of the day, no matter who you vote for it won`t help you in the slightest. They all give you the talk when they`re wanting your votes, they`ll promise this, that and the other, but they sharp change their tune once they`re elected.

They are all after one thing and that`s lining their own pockets.

  2. Black pudding and ....

    o - k...

i do agree with the winging part tho. Ask my lass, she's sick of me moaning about every little thing!

The thing is, if its a service, it normally results in something better...

Bad Pint? Tell them! i've complained more than once, and been re-imbursed.

Poor Service? Complain! Your paying for it! Get them telt!

In the liong run they'll take it one of 2 ways.

Constructivly, and improve whats wrong, or they'll spit the dummy out. Something i tend to do when i don't get my own way :D

I had to rep you for that last bit

  3. how much do you think things will be put up this time by that thunderbird look alike darling!

petrol up buy a quid, tabs and beer up a quid and road tax up 50% fat greedy bas......

ps. how on earth has he got black eyebrows and grey hair?

car tax will go up by 20 quid a year i reckon.

  4. Mostly because they did not like the way the old forum was, although it has changed of late into a place where serious discussion seems to be taking place, and staying on track, it was not always like that.

They also have lives outside the forum that need their attention, some working 3 jobs just to make ends meet, and only have time to pop in once a week.

    3?

Like i say, a public vote would have been interesting, for me at least.

Yes, THREE. Although, i fail to see what that has got to do with anything? The forum hasn`t got a `one person per family` join up rule you know.

  5. I'm perfectly happy with the result. I dont mind either way, if its there, i'll use it, if not, so be it.

A vote has been cast, and thats that. Like has been pointed out before, this is a forum for the people, by the people, so a majority vote will always win, even if it is all one family and their immediate family who are voting.

It would have been interesting to make it a public vote, so we could see who voted what and confirm it, but its in the past now, so be it.

A very short period for a vote tho. I know some who only visit here once a week that may have liked a vote.

Why don`t the people you know pop in a bit more often, then they wouldn`t have missed the chance to vote. Saying that, they can`t really be that interested in the forum at all if they only visit occasionally.

As for the family you keep bringing up, i`ve only got 3 family members that use the site and they have their own opinions. So that means another 2 people voted to get rid of the negs.

Fact is, the majority of the voters wanted the option to neg people gone. Deal with it.

  6. Not at all! Bully is your word, and those people who voted ARE using their brains BUT not in the wider interest. I'm not sure why 75% of the members reading the debate didn't vote - why I said for/against didn't tell us the full story. That's only shocking if you want to cherry pick then twist my remarks into something I never said. And what is voting Fourgee's perfectly neutral post (he actually supports your view!) down other than an attempt to manipulate the outcome?

I'm content to go with the democratic consensus, even though it's a very small sample. But I happen to think that more people voting on the quality of posts - either up or down, will over time improve the quality of posts.

    Bullies gang-up do they not?

And, i haven`t twisted anything! It`s there in black and white. People can make their own minds up as to how they read it.

Correct me if i`m wrong here, but how does `And what is voting Fourgee's perfectly neutral post (he actually supports your view!) down other than an attempt to manipulate the outcome?` this apply to me? I`m assuming this is aimed in my direction as you mention `your` view. The only time that i`ve touched Fourgees post (if it`s the one that got 2 negs last night) was 2 minutes ago and i gave him a good rep to get rid of the red one!

  7. I don't think it was a failed experiment. What has happened is that the people who misuse positive rep have ganged up to see that there's no negative. They seem to think that because they misuse it other people will do too. Pretty juvenile! rolleyes.gif

Only 25% of members who visited the thread voted. Just like Bedlington not enough people bothered to use their brains then vote for a logical improvement! So... the manipulators get a result in their self-interest, and not the wider interest.

Maybe the next poll should have a "don't know" to separate the don't knows from the don't cares?

Or - if we want to play petty politics - we can do what politicians do and keep on asking the same question in different ways until we get the answer we want - after which the public's decision becomes final!

You`re making it sound like the people that voted are bullies and manipulators (me included) and the people that didn`t vote have no brains! Shocking! I know who the manipulator is on this board and it isn`t any of the ones your pointing the finger at.

End of the day, if the Admins want to use the neg option, then reinstate it! It`ll keep a certain member happy if no-one else.

  8. What if neg was restricted to 1 a day and positive 10?

Failed experiment now lets move on :D

It`s now Wednesday, 6 out of 10 votes want the neg option removed and as you`ve said yourself `I don't agree with negative rep either` `I've added a poll in any case as that is how these disagreements are usually decided. Voting closes Wednesday lunchtime` `if most users want it removed so be it` `you've made your point that it will only case animosity here`

The time is now 12.18 (past Wednesday lunchtime)

  9. Wow, Cympil always seems to be able to come up with the shots! cool.gif

Here's something interesting: The only remaining point of refrence here seems to be the now Queens Head, Guidepost. But look at it in the 2009 shot, and in the 1912 shot. Slightly different perspective, but it's obviously still the same building.

    post-2-12685231105697_thumb.jpgpost-2-12685231254674_thumb.jpg

Notice that those twin windows are still there, but the top floor has been lopped off the part on the corner. In fact it doesn't even seem to be called The Queens Head then. The bit of the sign we can see seems to say something like ...ASEN.

I'd always wondered where THE Guidepost was, but it rather looks like the guy squatting on the left is sitting under it! Anyone know any different?

It was called the Anvil Inn. The Queens Head was over the other side of the road until it was bulldozed to make way for the roundabout. Sometime after that, the Anvil became the Queens Head..that`s maybe when building changed too?

I haven`t a clue about THE Guidepost...i`ll see what i can dig up though.

  10. I`ve found a mention of Storey`s Buildings here http://www.sixtownships.org.uk/choppington-stories.html But, it doesn`t really explain where Storey`s buildings actually were.

If they were where the Queens pub used to be, i have a photo which is from 1900. The pub on the left is the Anvil Inn. I`m not sure if the building on the right is the Queens (before it moved to where the Anvil is). It`s quite possible that those buildings on the right are Storey`s Buildings?

  11. Each individual can make their own mind up whether they like a post or not, so if someone receives a neg off another member, it doesn`t mean a different member would perceive the original poster as a one to avoid (so to speak)

Basically, negs have no meaning to anyone other than the person that gave the neg (other than the person who received it) So that makes the neg system pointless in my eyes. It doesn`t show anything what-so-ever, only that someone is huffing on and negging folk.

Infact, i`m beginning to think about the rep system altogether. What exactly is the point of it? It`s beginning to sound like a scoring system of some kind. Everyone should be equal on here, regardless of their views. This is a forum for the people of Bedlington and beyond, a gathering place where we can all get together and share our views, have a bit banter etc, not a place to `oust` the un-populars

  12. it'll only start a neg war if people are childish.

i for one have only "neg'd" one post, and that was a bit pointless as a war tactic because i "repped" another post from the same user!

If its not about the quality of the post, its childish, and just shows the mentality of the person doing it.

It still boils down to `why do we need to neg anyone?`. The rep system as it was seemed fair. If someone took the time to write a post then they got a rep. If their post didn`t deserve a rep (for whatever reason) then they didn`t get one.

It saves any bad feeling kicking off.
