  1. After a trial run in Morpeth, Greggs in Bedlington will start charging for their bags as of next week 1p for small and 2p for large. Doesn't this company make enough money? Well I for one won't be using this shop again so the £6.42p I spent today will stay in my pocket next week so they will have to sell 642 1p bags to make up for that won't they. I may add that I am not the only one with this opinion so if you multiply this by say 2 for every greggs shop they are going to have to sell one heck of a lot of bags just to make up for lost custom!

Good luck to them, but they probably don't need it!

'Freshly baked today' That's a laugh after they stood in freezer for 6 month!

I emailed them at the beginning of March about this. I had visited the Morpeth shop, bought a heap of things, waited on a bag (didn`t get offered one)so i asked for a one, and the women turned round and said `if you want a bag you`ll have to pay for it` (said in a snotty way)..needless to say, i didn`t. I told her to keep it.

If i hadn`t of been fuming at the time and thinking straight, i would have returned the goods i had just bought and got my money back, but i stomped out the shop, juggling with my sausage rolls instead

This is the reply i got from the email..

    Dear Sir,( )

Thank you for taking the time to contact us. At Greggs we are committed to an

on-going programme of continual reduction of any adverse impacts to the

    environment.

We are currently trialling 1p and 2p carrier bags in a selection of shops in the

North East, Morpeth is one of the trial shops however Bedlington is not. All

profits from the bags will go to the Greggs Foundation to help support local

environmental projects. We appreciate all customer feedback and I will pass on

your comments to our Brand Retail Team.

With regards to the attitude of the staff member in the Morpeth shop, I will

pass on your comments to the Area manager to ensure that all staff members are

aware of the importance of customer service.

    Kind regards

    Claire Florey

    Customer Care Team

(notice the nice apology?) me neither <_<

  2. cheers Cympil... where did you find out from?

Does anyone have any thoughts on how we could validate this?

A friend of mine happened to bump into John Dawson from the Six Townships Community History Group yesterday, and asked him about Storey`s Buildings. That`s how i found out where it used to be.

There is a forun on the Sixtownships website where you could ask him about this, or email him directly (his email is on the above link)

  3. This is the most ridiculous sentence that anyone can possibly write in relation to an upcoming general election. If you don't vote you are allowing others to determine the outcome - you cannot then rant on as you have been on here if you have had no say in the process. Why do you think we get a vote? Do you think it is our God given right to live in a country that elects its political leaders this way? Or perhaps it was something that people actually fought for, and that we should respect? The sentence quoted is absolutely and intrinsically wrong - any person with any sense makes it their duty to vote, for that's the only way you stand any chance of getting things changed.

Merlin - why should you vote against those in power? If you have to ask that question you're as much a clown - with due respect - as those you are complaining about; the very fact you're complaining about them is your answer. If you don't like what you have, you don't accept it without trying something different.

I hope, after the election, there are no tirades of complaints from those who choose not to vote, as in doing so you choose nto to have a voice at all.

Like i said, i won`t vote because it wouldn`t make any difference. Because whoever gets in will do what they want anyway, regardless of the promises they make.

I`ll not be complaining or ranting on about whoever gets in either. When things get worse and this country slides further down the pan, i`ll just say `I told you so`. Then i`ll blame the people that voted for them for allowing them to do it.

  4. Good to see your still reading the topic before posting to it Merlin

As for why, i have heard that Louise and her brother are on the papers, but the plan was for Louise and her Husband to actually do the day to day running of it.

Now, sadly, Louise's husband has passed away, and running a pub alone with 4 (?) children running round her feet is not quite working out.

Its a nice little pub, but the lack of a good ammount of parking means it'll always just be, just a nice little pub.

Its a shame, because 99% of the current regulars seem really canny people!

Must admit, The Wharton is a nice little pub. It`s still going after all these years...same faces, same craic..

Best of luck to it :)

  5. Right - that's the attitude! We're all for it! So what are you doing about it? Oh, wait, you're waiting for someone else to do it for you, aren't you? That's the problem these days - we have it all too easy, and people - like you, like me, ordinary, everyday people - get this attitude of 'they're all the same, it's not worth voting'. And then what are we left with? Something, someone, who somebody else voted for, who we complain about, who we want rid of. Tough - we didn't vote, we let this happen.

Get off your !*!@# , stop waiting for others to do what needs to be done, and vote; it starts like this - if you don't like the way things are right now, you need to vote AGAINST the party in power. Get it?

The revolution isn't going to happen thanks to somebody else.

And by me voting doe`s what exactly? Surely by now, you can see the way this works? Just incase you missed it, they say `we`ll do this, that and the other, we promise to change things for the better etc etc`..what then happens..they`re voted in by gullible people that takes anything in..brought up to not think for themselves..

No wonder this country is in the state it`s in..there`s absoluteley no hope.

Any person with any sense wouldn`t vote. They need to throw the lot of the over-paid moron Mp`s out and start from scratch. Get shot of the lot. Greedy, dishonest, manipulating !*!@# .

  6. A look through the edit history of his page on Wikipedia makes for interesting reading also.

From the previous interviews i`ve read from this man (arrested 7 times, fined for football hooliganism, fined £1000.00) maybe he could put that on his blank page.

Better still, he should just write T.H.U.G.

    Says it all really.

  7. those big trees on the corner have always crow/rooks nesting in them! or they did?

    Bird on a crossed wire.

don't know you put the picture on?

There`s been some wires crossed somewhere along the line

Lets start again..Who can guess whereabouts my pic is from? :D

  8. Does anyone know anything about a fire yesterday at the deli next to the Post Office?

I was wondering what had happened..i passed there yesterday and there was a fire engine, police van and a police car all with their lights flashing. There were police standing outside the Post Office door, more police inside the Post Office and a police woman standing outside the door which leads to the flat above the Post Office (which had been kicked in by the look of it)..I didn`t know what to think. It didn`t look like there had been a fire though.

My first thought when i saw all the police, was that there`d been a robbery

  9. Don't think the new discount fashion shop will last long. Went with elderly neighbour I help go shopping with and you go in the door and they straight at you like vultures. Nobody likes to be snared as they enter a shop.. they like to browse without being pushed into looking at items to ensure a sale.Another shop that won't last long me fears!! :(

Thanks for the warning, i`ll not be stepping foot inside the place if that`s the way they go on, i can`t bide shops like that.
