I moved to Bedlington in 1956, having lived in the army camp at Hartford Bridge and attending the makeshift school behind Nedderton Village. My happiest childhood memories are going to Humford Baths in the early 60's, we would spend long happy days diving into freezing cold blue water, bet I couldn't stand the cold now!

I've lived in Morpeth since 1983, I still drive down to Humford and reflect on those times. Long time ago, I think the pool closed in '75.

Welcome Woolley.

My dad used to tell me about the Baths at Humford.

I think I may have vague recollections of it myself. Though I'm not that old.

Humford baths, your right it was freezing when you went in the water but then it seemed as if it was warmer in the water then it was out of the water. A great place to go during the school summer hollidays

Hi There Wooley, I remember Humford well from the 60,s and if you were,nt careful the bullies would push you into that pool with all the green slime at the far end !!! they never got me but I saw it happen and the kids had to hose off before they went back in the pool, that was even colder!! the walk down Church road to humford was always fun in the summer, no computors back then we had to make our own fun

I remember the sludge pool well, I ended up in it a couple of times, if you thought that was cold , and it was , then why the heck would we run straight from the hot house and jump into the pool at 3d a day or 2s / 6d for the summer the best value for money I can ever remember, are the Marley's still in Bedlington , I left In 68 (I was 11 then) for the smoke and now reside in Matawan, NJ USA. I posted a class pic , from the Whitley , curious how many are still around?

HI ya Woolie

what camp did you live in ? we lived in No 1 camp moved up to bedlington in 68 I loved it down there in the river we had a rope swing into the river and spent all the summer climbing tree and swimming, so it was onto Humford baths when we moved up to bedlington.

Can you remember Stash and Bernard Sluzalic (thing thats how you spell it)???

Met my first real girl friend there loverly lass from cowpen ???????????

It was Wilf Marley that I can remember great bloke kept us all under control, it was first priority to get a pass for the baths when the season opened.

GREAT TIMES WONT FORGET THE SUMMERS OF "The 60's"

Bet you could still stand the cold water, filtered through from the river. It was 3 old pence to get in for the whole 8 hours when we used to go. When you got to Class 6 at Barrington County Primary school you were take to Humford Baths, every week, to learn to swim. Wilf that looked after the baths, a very intelligent academic bloke, loads of 'O' levels but just enjoyed the simple life in his council house at the baths.
