does anyone recall old Ginnys fish and chips, back when she would let families buy on Tick til payday? as would the Bottom shop, as well as Mrs Sixpences shop across the way, Except if you didnt pay on time Mrs Sixpence would post your name on the debtors list in her window..........OOh The Shame of it!!!!

I remember Ginny's fish and chips well i remember the smell and the smoke as she cooked great fish and chips also the scrunching's she would sell

Was it on Front St in the 60's? I remember us lads going in and each getting a free bag (sort of a paper twist) of batter - couldn't afford the chips 'cos we'd spent the money on tabs (pack of 5 Woodbines or was it a pack of 3)?

Was that next to Nutters? All replaced by what is now Brook Court. Was there also a shop at the park end of Lily Ave. ?

Yes, nutters was known just as the bottom shop, and the street was Hirst terrace, Hirst terrace was bought up in pieces by the council supposedly to widen the street after they knocked down the coffin chapel which of course never happened, I wonder what the land was sold for????

Yes, there was a shop on Lily Ave next to the park - used to be owned by the Culverwell's(?) when I was little.

:D Me and my family(parents and sister) used Ginnys fish shop all the time.

She was a very nice lady and very friendly. It was a short walk from where I lived

in Haig road. Bill
