Hi

My introduction as requested. I am Norman Dunn, born in Bedlington in 1950. I attended the Council School, Bedlington and later Westridge County Secondary School, leaving in 1966. My parents, Mary and Robert Dunn, lived in Browns Buildings the South Riggs, Bedlington. I later lived in Millfield Court for a time. I now split my time between Glanton in North Northumberland and Locheport in Uist on the Outer Hebrides.

Hi Norman ... I remember you and your family well - we lived in the Riggs as well.  If you go to the 'Talk of the Town' section and look under the 'Forst footin' thread you'll recognise the tale I tell about New Years Eve as your house was one of the venues.

Welcome NormanD

I look forward to your contributions.

I remember going to Glanton to help at the Red Cross Centre,

It was with Miss Wilkinson and others from Westridge.

We were older than you born 1946/47.

Thanks for the welcome Maggie/915. The Red Cross buildings are now a garage but many people still remember the place.

I have great memories of Glanton and the Red Cross camp.

The area is a favourite to walk and visit to this day..

Lovely place to live NormanD.

I wonder if the Core Strategy meeting at Wooler on the 14th January 2015 Cheviot Centre 10am till 2pm will change the area.

I hope not!

They are after developing Glanton. My hope is that it will not be like Shilbottle where they more than doubled the houses. I have requested that they develop a plan for the village rather than develop piecemeal but maybe that is too sensible

It seems every green area is up for grabs.

Maybe just sold to the highest bidder or entrepreneur !

We are told new houses are essential but then it seems no one can afford them.

Kids move back with parents and every city seems to have huge new high rise flats.

We seem powerless.

A development in Netherton Lane has been turned down but with appeals that may not be the end of the matter.

Good Luck with keeping Glanton safe and green.
