February 27, 201511 yr Hi, I retired last year and Ollie (Yorkshire Terrier) and I now have time to fully explore the area I grew up in. I now live in Stakeford but lived in Bedlington, near the bank top, since I was around fifteen years old. I am interested in local history and am looking for more info on places I have previously only known by name. My first query is regarding the numbered marker posts in the Free Wood from Furnace Bank to Atlee Park. I am sure they mark areas of interest but I cannot find out any information about them, I am sure someone can point me in the right direction. Thanks and look forward to further participation Pedro
February 27, 201511 yr Welcome Pedro. I'm sure the answers to your questions will be found on this site.
February 27, 201511 yr Welcome Pedro and Ollie. The posts used to have information on them .Maybe with investment in Bedlington, that could be a recommendation.
February 28, 201511 yr Hi Pedro. The numbers were supposed to go along with a recording telling you about the history of the site. It was an East Bedlington Parish Council project. If you ask Ron or Jenny down there I am sure they will fill you in.
February 28, 201511 yr You used to be able to borrow a CD, CD player and headphones from Bedlington Station Library which you listened to as you walked through the woods. My Dad John Reed, is the voice at one of the numbered markers. I'm not sure if you can still obtain the equipment but the library would be the place to find out.
March 1, 201511 yr plenty local history on here -- snuffle about - or ask -- the answers are out there -- or should I say in here!!
