Today's front page story headlined "How Liz Truss won the battle for No 10" has had a lot of people checking the calendar.  In my case it was more an... "oh, I must have misunderstood when the result was to be announced".  It's been fairly clear what the result would be for a number of weeks, but the sheer gall of the article has taken many aback.  Some commenters have even suggest that it's a publishing error.

One of my old mates has Liz as his MP and I thought that he'd be amused by the turn of events.  Not a bit of it, it seems!  I'm putting this down to the fact that most of his children and grandchildren have had a good helping of "Blairite university brainwash", and so the family generally are likely left leaning.  Then again you'd have thought that such people would warm to the prospect of an (ex) LibDem remainer becoming PM!  ;)

And she's the best candidate for the job😟........bring back Boris

In agree with you - at least with Boris you got a laugh:D. Can you imagine having to listen to Liz Truss, probably nightly, on the evening news:(.

Back in the 1960's & 70's I voted for Labour as that is who everyone I knew voted for and the party I had been indoctrinated with and I preferred the Harold Wilson character to the Ted Heath character. Following those years there was no way I could even speak the name of that chemist born to a green grocer yet alone vote for her.

naturally from 1990 i would vote for anyone to replace the chemist but didn't really care who it was. Over the last twenty years my votes, normally for three candidates, in the local council elections would be one labour, one Conservative and one from the Green party. I could never bring myself to vote for the Lib Dem candidate - just couldn't see the point of them.

These days I wish Al Murray would come and be in the NE elections - I would vote for him =

The Pub Landlord standing against all the established political parties as the sole candidate for his Free United Kingdom Party (FUKP).

Wow, not even a token white male in cabinet!  This IS interesting.

Agree with you on the Heath-Wilson thing Eggy.  And it was at a time when I used to vote Conservative too!  Heath was actually a more dogmatic socialist than "pragmatic" pipe-smoking Harold.  I'm no longer quite so sure that Heath was the worst PM ever though.

Anyone with a mature sense of proportion wanting a good chuckle should revisit the news coverage of the Heath-Wilson years and the huge commotion there was about our £1.3 billion annual trade deficit.  Everyone was blaming everyone, and the end of the world was predicted unless it was quickly eliminated. (Hint: It's now running at a cool £27.9 billion a year!)

Now isn't it strange that even the BBC news mentioned that there were no white males.

Many in this world has spent years protesting that women and blacks should be on an equal footing as the white male. I would even say , in my opinion, the BBC that broadcasts all over the world have been attempting to have black, white and women on the same level as the white male. I was amazed that when they were broadcasting from outside 10 Downing Street when watching to see who Liz brought into the cabinet Nick Eardley ( the Stanley Baxter look alike :D) stated that there were no white males.

Does this mean that the tables are now reversed and the white males can now start claiming they are being discriminated against. and can start protest meetings and marches asking for equality?

Will we ever get the point where no matter what sex or colour, no matter what the balance is, everyone will treat everyone else as equal and just get on with it:wtf:

Hopefully we wil - but I'm not holding my breath while waiting for it to happen.

The following is no reflection on the new cabinet, as of yet I haven't really looked at its composition, but sometimes i think equality of sexes and colours can go a bit too far. What do either of those matter if you are the right person for the job and work well in the team? I wouldn't like to be the employer who turns away a competent, prospective co-worker on my team just because they happened to have the wrong sex or colour needed to maintain the 'correct' balance in the workforce.

No, but we're on the same page as far as colour and age are concerned. Two out of three's not bad!

How is it with equality  here on Bedders? ´Not many females about. It's a good job for you lot that i just think of myself as "one of the lads".
