  1. Yes I fondly remember the "Sir Fon†I never was a sea farer! but do remember the paddle tug boats, the "Cowpen†dredger and the many passenger liners, aircraft carriers, submarines on their way to Bolkowâ€s.

The only boats I travelled on were the two ferries, the chain ferry (on my way to work as apprentice at the power station) and the low ferry we used to go and pick wilik's.

Oh! and the Polish and Dutch fishing boats, used to buy "tabs" from them!

  2. post-2953-0-91477800-1348643361_thumb.jpA WINNER!!!

Well Done Vic. (I know Mercuryg had said he knew it so well done to him, too.)

So, Vic, you have won the first prize. You will represent GB in the Louisiana alligator wrestling tournament this Xmas. No, don't thank me now, thank me later...er...hopefully. I know people who would give an arm and a leg for this opportunity - and many have. So once again well done.

    Does anybody want some more?

Thanks Keith! Been going there for years  , the 'gators are quite armless it's them bloody Aussie crocs that give me trouble, doing the crocodile roll!

(Wor lass introduced me to the sport, she enters me every year! said it was more manly than growing leeks!)

  3. as an x bedie can you explain how driving through bedlington morpeth and ashington i follow car drivers using indercators to let you know where they are going ? yet when i am driving in blyth the cars dont seem to have indecators on them or are they not legal?

Inconsiderate drivers come from everywhere! what logic suggests drivers driving in a certain area (like Blyth) are any different in other locations! (like Bedlington) When you were driving in Blyth were you not just one of the cars that " don't seem to have indicators on them

I must say that I believe drivers generally are getting less and less courteous and and considerate, driver distractions like phones, radios, GPS or just todays pace! may be the answer or is it lack of respect!

  4. Vic - I think you're right, we should be careful before using new technologies, NASA has found raised land surface temperatures especially at night, in a HUGE wind farm in Texas.

Absorbing wave energy has no effect near to the shore, as the energy will dissipate naturally on the shore anyway. We should monitor the effects, but the effects of global warming will probably overshadow them all.

You are correct - Energy cannot naturally be created or destroyed - however it can be transferred to another form, which is the general basis for all energy production. Also making solar panels is a dirty process. We need to invest in these processes to make them cleaner and greener. and yes other processes use things like fibre glass, Kevlar, silicon etc, much of which is mined - but who said mining was wrong???

Done in a controlled manner, nothing wrong at all! as I said earlier considering health, safety and the environment, I live in a mining town!

  5. Related but a bit off topic!

What is the effect of using renewable energy, if any? the absorbing or slowing down the wind to turn windmills, absorbing wave energy, absorbing heat from solar panels, thermal pumps etc, All of these things must have some affect on weather trends, patterns etc even if only very minutely. "The butterfly effectâ€.

Energy cannot naturally be created or destroyed! (or so I'm told!) Which of the renewable energy's has the least undesirable side effects, making solar panels is supposed to be quite a dirty process! other processes use things like fibre glass, Kevlar, silicon etc, much of which I'm sure is mined!

  7. I follow the Edmonton Oilers hockey team, their Russian goaltender served time there last year! (drunk driving) For inmates it's a great program but for young offenders a bit heavy. Restoration, Contribution and even humiliation can be a great way of putting (some) young thugs back on track (if they were ever on track!)

Programs such as grass cutting, garbage pick-up and other community work programs are a great way of tackling minor crime and solves many community problems!
