  1. Although the Gallery is now on-line, and you can create an Album (or several Albums, there's no limitation on how many you can have!), there's a rather restrictive limit on the size of image that you can upload. It's probably good enough for almost all phone pix, but precludes high resolution stuff. This isn't a file size limitation but a pixel count limitation. It's due to the large amount of memory the server needs to process the thumbnails. Presently members can upload 800 x 600 images but not 1024 x 768 images. We are working to remove this limitation at an early date. You create a gallery album through "My Controls" (the link up top), and you can choose whether it is a private album or viewable by the public. Albums are private by default. You can turn the public switch on or off from your panel on an album by album basis, so you don't have to actually show a particular photo album until you're happy with it, and can turn it on and off (or delete it entirely) at your whim. Please feel free to experiment. You can contact me for help through my PMS button - click on my BB name.

Welcome home A! How long before we see an "Our Friends Up North" Forum I wonder? Have you noted the Personal Messaging facility - no expense has been spared! The old administrator sends his regards, and assures you that there will be no more BS!
  3. I've just spoken to (Labour Leader) Councillor Alan Douglas in the last half hour, and he's promised to address some of the issues about the Town that are raised here. His comment on the "Bedlington wants it's independence back" issue: "There's no way in a million years that this is going to happen!"
  4. About an hour ago my wife collected Fish & Chips at the Front Street East chippy (the traditional one that now sells !*!@# food too, Jennys (?). A few minutes after starting to eat I felt nauseous. At first I put it down to having picked up a chill or something today. Then my wife said that she too was feeling sick. I continued eating but immediately lost any appetite. Strange, as I'd had very little to eat today - the odd cup of tea and a biscuit only. The remainder of my F&C were fed to the two large dogs, who were waiting greedily, and eat like horses. Amazingly, both of them vomited the lot back within a minute or two of each other. Don't really know what the problem is, but I suspect the cooking oil was way off. Anyway it was immediately reported to the chippy, and the lady there said she'd stop serving straight away. I do hope she does as there's obviously a bad problem. We've all recovered from the nauseousness fairly rapidly, but I'm still feeling a bit shaky. It seems to me that it's more likely a chemical problem than any sort of bacterial thing. I've had bacterial food poisoning once or twice before in (posh & expensive) restaurants, and this isn't anything like as bad just at the moment. Probably not serious enough to report to the P.H., but a offer of a refund would have been nice!
  5. 111,111,111 x 111,111,111 = 12,345,678,987,654,321
  6. I'm compiling a list of Bedlington phone numbers. Phone numbers that all Bedlingtonians (includes the former Bedlingtonshire) would wish to print out and stick on their pin-board/wall or even upload to their mobiles. We're all perfectly organised in Bedlington! The actual list will appear in the Public Announcements section. It will be dynamically updated, so you can dump it to your printer regularly (without all the graphics) by using the thread's print button. Please post on that thread with the phone numbers that you think should be added to the list. The user submitted information (thread replies) will be pre-moderated - i.e. they won't appear in public, but I will extract data from them quite regularly, and all help will be acknowledged. The list doesn't want to grow much beyond a page or two otherwise it will defeat the original purpose. So we'll do some pruning at intervals, in the light of suggestions.
  7. Keep up the posts and we'll make you an honorary one. Comes c/w with a (9 carat) gold plated key to the lavy in car park - subject to budgetary restrictions.
  8. I've now located a number of backup files of the old NCB posts. It's just a matter of deciding which is the most complete/up-to-date set, what's worth restoring and what's not. Please note that it wasn't me that promised that the format conversion would be a trivial task!
  9. A glance at the server logs shows lots and lots of Bedlingtonians (and their near neighbours) lurking and not registering at this moment. Registration is free, and you will not be letting yourself in for any spam. Your control panel gives you 100% control of your membership. You can even turn off messages from the board if you want. However, if you do register - amongst other great things - you'll have access to the bedlington.co.uk PMS (Personal Messaging System) which will give you a private message box to exchange personal messages with other Bedlingtonians. Yes, that's what those My Controls ··· 0 New Messages links along the top are! Your PMS is also 100% under your control, and you can specify exactly who you do (and do not) want to get personal messages from. The PMS system does not involve you in disclosing your e-mail address to anyone, but the registration process does mean that by-and-large people are who they say they are, and mostly locals or Northumbrians now resident in other parts of the world. The registration process is to help protect you, and means that in the case of any deliberate deception there's a fair degree of traceability. When someone says "PM me" on a post they are inviting you to send them a private message. If you decide you don't want to correspond privately with them then place their handle (message board name) on your exclude list. If you don't want any personal messages then simply turn the PMS facility off completely. Please note that at present we do not have the resources to give the facilities 24/7/365 moderation, nor do we monitor the PMS system - this would be tantamount to reading other people's post. Because of this persons under the age of 16 may not join bedlington.co.uk as full members, though they may co-opt a parent or guardian to post messages on their behalf. Update: 23rd April 2006 All the two digit "founder member" membership numbers have gone now, but there's still a chance to own a lowish one, if you don't dither. And, a reminder to existing members - it's use it or loose it; if you don't log-in at intervals (and check your control panel for messages) the software will eventually trash your membership, PM mailboxes, picture galleries, blogs etc. and free up your username for reuse by someone else. A number of early memberships have already met this fate. Unlike most other community boards our membership numbers are not grossly inflated by inactive and unconfirmed members.
  10. Maybe I'd anticipated you a bit by renaming it to Northumberland... Anyway will that do for now?
  11. The Masons really have to stop these midnight meetings!
  12. Yah, we jumped the gun a tad on the Picture of the Day thing. The pix rotating software has only just been installed, and it WILL be updated every 24 hours within a very short while. As mentioned elsewhere, the personal picture galley software is to be installed this month. In fact the bugs now seem to have been fixed, and it's likely to be operational sooner rather than later in the month. If people don't upload their own Bedlington Galleries then I certainly will. In fact I probably will anyway -competition is always a good thing! Gallery isn't just restricted to pix of the Town though, as long as it's of general interest, and doesn't cause offence...
  13. The time has now been corrected for GMT (UST). In order to ensure that you have the correct local time display then please do the following: Then click on Board Settings on the left side menu: Then ensure the two check boxes shown are un-ticked - like so: If you are in another time zone then adjust the Your base time zone drop-down as appropriate. Finally click on the [Change my Account Options] button at the bottom. Thanks.
  14. We haven't got the software to efficiently handle ...@bedlington.co.uk mail addresss' at the moment, and I doubt that there would be any benefit to writing any. Experience shows that people treat such freebies as a throw-away address, and attract huge amounts of spam. This then has to be dealt with, taking much needed effort away from more worthwhile projects. Dealing with the spam that our paying customers unwittingly attract to themselves is already a costly business. As for connectivity - we're not in that business. We'd thought about re-branding one of the services already on offer. But at the end of the day that's not going to help anyone. There's a great danger of spreading the resources too thin and trying to do too much. However when Cable & Wireless do get their equipment into the local exchange we'll be one of their first customers. We've already got a "last-mile" optical link waiting to go. On the SMS question: we've already looked at it, a while back, and that might indeed be a goer.
  15. The problem seems to be what exactly is meant by serving food. No one seems to know. Is a sauasage roll food? And, if not, does it become food if it's microwaved?

    Hello

Moscardini's Station Cafe - on the corner around from the station. Well known teenage meeting place in the '60s, and probably for some time after. Can't recall when it closed, but it was a feature of Bedlington life for many decades. Now an Indian take-away - what else! http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?lat...ale=5000&icon=x
  17. Fully integrated Personal Photo Galleries will be added some time next month [Editor: That was written in October so we mean this month - November]. The delay is due to minor software bugs - which are being worked on as I write. This gives you plenty of notice to get your collection of interesting pictures together and have them ready to upload! You can still upload pictures to posts, and, of course, those brave enough to start a blog can include their own graphics. But, the Galleries have automatic thumb-nail/photo-album creation, voting, commenting, extensive linking support to ensure minimum browsing effort, ability to send your pick of the photos to others as a greeting card, slide shows, photo sharing with other Bedlington Gallery owners, etc. etc.
  18. Do NOT squeeze the tube of superglue BEFORE you've carefully unblocked the nozzle with that straightened paperclip! Arrrgghhhh!!
  19. Not then you are a Star Wars fan? --> Brett: Oops - sorry I didn't recognise you!
  20. We need a forum for peeps to ask questions about using the software, and to flag features like personal galleries, PM, events calendar etc. I've already had a user question by phone. Something like: How Do I...
  21. Bulletin Board in final test - accepting new members.
  22. I never dish out advice - I always bill it! Anyway that's the way people used to talk pre SMS. Is that CB under the moniker there?
  23. SOAP: This is the story of two families.... Confused? You will be! LOL http://www.televisionheaven.co.uk/soap.htm
  24. Bedlington, West End Junior School class (c. 1916) - second row back I think. Bedlington, Church of Christ Baptists (c. 1930s) - almost bang in the center. The 1916 one isn't too clear and I seem to remember a much better print of it in Evan Martin's booklet - for which I probably never thanked him for the compy copy.
  25. P.S. Where's me background?
