  1. I don't believe crime rates are falling I believe that ordinary folk have given up reporting them after waiting for days for police to respond, if at all.

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/crime/8083115/Reporting-crime-is-a-waste-of-time-says-survey.html

Police  have said they will not send out officers to deal with shoplifters who steal goods worth less than £100.

But if you are a rich luvvy or politician the law will turn out in force as they did for some bloke nicking Eddies  pink beret,.

Obviously not the fashion police

    Forget the oscars.

    Try two films :-

    1) Lion

    2) Hunt for the Wilderpeople

Your correct Maggie, new films dont do it for me, I would rather watch an old classic.

How about this one for to bring a tear to your eye.

They dont make em like they used to :(

  4. So many of the films that the press and the Luvies rave about have been really naff , I remember them raving about silent movie a couple of years ago and it winning many awards, I personally found it a total load of plop.

If anybody is wondering what all the racket is today it's the big guns at Otterburn. Will also be heard over Saturday and Sunday...

I wondered what it was on Friday lunchtime I could could hear it loud and clear, I thought it was local construction works

The poor folk at Otterburn must be  deafened.

  6. They can debate until they are blue in the face, the top and bottom of it is we need the yanks more than they need us and Don will have his day.

Lets face it a lot worse than Don has graced the palaces dinner tables,

Probably worth noting that you should register with the TPS (telephone Preference Service), .

Brett I signed up with them years ago and have renewed my details a number of times but it made no difference to the huge number of calls we were receiving (mainly from abroad )

  8. Well Les I think the prices in Morrisons are very reasonable compared to Asda that we used to shop at, especially the butchers department that always has some sort of offer on, and as I said if you are not bothered about buying branded label's Morrisons savers range is excellent value, tins of some items as low as 10p. I wish Morrisons and its staff the best of luck for the future and hope those folks jobs are secure

And I can assure you Les I don't believe everything I read  or hear on the news :D

Doesn't work for withheld numbers. After a week of bliss I've been bombarded today, all withheld, so 1572 doesn't recognise them.

If you dial 1572 and listen to the options you can add a ban on withheld numbers, I have not done this and until now am still cold call free (fingers crossed ):D

  10. Well Les I certainly hope it does survive, it employs over 100 people while the  Lidle stores I have been in seem to work on a skeleton staff.

I like  named brands that are not available at Lidle so I wont be doing much in the way of shopping at the new store. Morrisons or Asdas own savers  label; brands seem much cheaper than the unheard of foreign brands sold by Lidle. but I suppose it will suit some folk,

They do seem to have had a lot of bad press lately

  11. The first  Portakabin after the explosion was a small basic bar the second  Portakabin (before the move to the Lairds house )  was a number of cabins joined together and was rather large, it had a full size snooker table and a pool table and on a Saturday night it had a disco and used to get packed, when the dance floor was full you could feel the floor moving under your feet. That cabin was more popular than the club  it must have lasted about nine or ten years. I believe that cabin is still in use in Ashington.

moe19 if you mean the Netherton Colliery old club then it is in the original list as - 'Old Netherton Club/Naval Club'

Some of the clubs have had a few incarnations

Looking back at the Top Club since the seventies Eggy it was housed in five separate buildings that I can remember.

When the old club  blew up in the gas explosion it was then operated from a Portakabin  in the top car park next to the public toilets behind the Blue Bell.(Chisholm bookmakers also had a cabin on that spot not sure if it was the old club cabin) The new top Club was built and opened on the bank on Glebe road in the mid to late seventies, when that building was found to have problems it closed and  the club once again moved in to Portakabins in the clubs car park (now Morrisons store ) club number five was in the old Lairds house.

  13. British Pathe from 1932 of  the ship breaking yard at Blyth the voice-over says it is known as 'The Graveyard of Ships'

.I wonder if this was part of the Hughes Bolckow company

Obliviously long before the days of health and safety

  14. I have just activated the BT new call protect  service its free to BT customers and promises to bring an end to the never ending stream of  cold calls that disturb our lives

    How it works

    • The service diverts nuisance calls to a new junk voicemail which you can access by dialling 1572 from your home phone

    • We continually monitor for the worst nuisance call offenders and once we've identified them, we will automatically divert them for you

    • You can also add numbers to your own personal blacklist which will also send those calls to your junk voicemail

    • The service is free and just for our customers.

It's really simple to switch on - in a matter of minutes you'll be protected. Just call 0800 328 1572 or activate it online
