  1. Apparently  each seat will contain an average of 75,000 voters.

The constituencies earmarked for extinction will be absorbed by their neighbours.

If they chop the number of elected MPs  I hope they don't forget to give the cronies in the unelected house of lords a good pruning, or am I expecting to much

  2. I wonder who  the MPs in the North East would be if the commissions proposals are carried out .

Proposals from the Boundary commissions for England and Wales may see  a number of our MPs deselected

Jeremy Corbyn and  George Osborne and Boris Johnson are among those whose seats the proposal would be abolished.

    North-East: 25, down four

Yorkshire and the Humber: 50, down four

    Eastern: 57, down one

    East Midlands: 44, down two

    London: 68, down five

    North West: 68, down seven

South East: 83, down one overall (two seats are lost but the Isle of Wight goes up from a single seat to two)

    South West: 53, down two

    West Midlands: 53, down six

getting a "Provi" for our shoes etc,

The Provi is still going, none of us really looked at interest rates in those days I wonder what rate the Provi was charging then.

I can remember my Grandmother used to get a Shepard's club out for the Ashington store, as kids we were mesmerised by  those  compressed air pipes that whizzed the canisters to the cash office, Shepard's also had its own plastic money in the form of coins if you took a club out you got your change in Shepard's money so it had to be spent back in the store.

Some folk had more tick than a clock.

  4. I have been a saver all my life I can recall at the turn of the century I had an account with the now defunct Alliance and Leicester  (taken over by Sandander ) I was receiving interest at a staggering rate of 12.25%,  I am now receiving from my present bankers the insulting sum of 0.5% interest.

I can also recall as many here will that the mortgage payments  I made in the Thatcher years more than  doubled, we used to receive a letter  from our lender Northern Rock at least once a month informing us of another rate rise, if we had borrowed beyond our limits like many folk did we would have been unable to make the payments and ended up homeless like a lot of poor folk did in them times, thank god we did not.

I seem to have had the worst of financial luck paying a fortune in interest as a borrower and now earning nothing as a saver, the folk who have mortgages today are very lucky the government is keeping the rates low and I wish them well, but how long can this situation continue .

As we possibly head for negative interest some banks are talking of charging customers interest for money they have in current accounts ( I already pay hefty charges on my business account) are we going to see what is already happening in Japan happen here, disgruntled folk have created  a shortage of safes apparently in Japan as people are buying them on mass and withdrawing savings from banks to store at home .

Why should I allow a bank to have my savings and lend them out to borrowers charging then interest making the bank money to pay bloated salaries to its champagne swilling hooray Henri's but giving me and others like me nothing,

Would a bit of garden hose not do the job just as well?

I think it would Canny lass, but I don't think it would be as comfortable to wear, but I think we could have fun if we left  the sprinkler attachment  on.

If you see a group of men with looks of relief on tha  faces wandering around the flower beds outside the council offices you know what they are up to :P

  6. I am considering buying one of these devices this man in the video has invented, they are for sale on amazon for $4.50,

  7. All that money that went up in smoke  at Blyth, three nights of fireworks  could have provided lavies for the entire county till the end of the century.

Its about time council started getting tha priorities in order,  good at spending millions but when it comes ta spending a penny they dont want ta know .

  8. Three in Morpeth Malcolm, all seem to very nice with music playing one even has pictures hanging on the walls, and they have attendants   (not white jacketed ones spraying you with cologne)

I believe the main street in Ashington also has a lavy , no surprise  in that they have everything else . Blyth also has two that I can think of again with attendants. And Cramlington also has very nice public toilets.

Anyone who attended last weeks fair must have been peed off, literally. I know some of the publicans were by folk using the toilets and not buying nowt.

I suppose its typical for Bedlington, we aint got as much as a  pot ta  p - - s  in .

  9. How much can it cost to keep a lavy open, they don't have piped music or white jacketed attendants to hold your jacket or spray you with cologne  and offer you a fresh towel in fact your lucky if they have any toilet paper.

A lick over with a mop and a dollop of jeyes fluid the cost is a drop in the ocean when you see what is been blown on other fanciful plans costing millions.

  10. I love this youtube clip the man is called is Tommy I dont know what his wife is called but they have travelled to Langkawi  (an archipelago made up of 99 islands on Malaysia's west coast)

I wonder what the other couple in the cable car made of Tom I am  sure they never expected to meet someone like him after travelling thousand of miles to somewhere so exotic

I have often heard folk say you will always find a Geordie wherever you go

I've noticed signs posted, some upside down,

maybe hanging them upside down is  a marketing tactic , if so it  certainly seems to be working

  12. In the Evening Chronicle article it says,   Coun Daley claims they were given less than an hour to consider the plans before being asked to make a decision.

He said: “As custodians of the public purse, being asked to support £78m without proper pre-scrutiny and detailed business planning information is shocking.”

In the worst case scenario that the borrower ever becomes insolvent and defaults on the loan , how can councils be protected, especially in the time of Brexit when property could become  worth much less than what it was bought for

  13. Local papers have picked up on the story today

    http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-east-news/northumberland-council-chiefs-criticised-splashing-11641418

Council bosses have come under fire for buying a Northumberland shopping centre, while vital council services are being axed.

    £78m

It is an enormous amount of money to spend in the south east of the county when day to day services are being cut.

“We recently saw Haydon Bridge Fire Station close and libraries are being moved because the council doesn’t have enough money to keep them going.

  14. Manor walks shopping centre Cramlington  has changed hands,

with Northumberland development company Arch purchasing the 442,802sq ft shopping centre from London-based firm Hammerson.

Ach's new purchase also includes Sainsbury’s and Asda, a nine-screen cinema complex, three office blocks, three car parks, plus the former Northumberland City Council library building.
