I'm sure I said before that I get paid in dollars, and as they don't accept dollar payments in the Red Lion, I have to exchange them for good old sterling. This very morning, right now, I can get 76p for my dollar; that's better than it was on the fateful day of Brexit (or worse, if you're not me!) That, my friend, is the real world, one where I know how many quid I get for my dollar today, and how many I got a few weeks back (considerably less, if you're interested). The pound recovering? I laughed so hard my head almost fell off. You know that famous climate chage hockey stock chart? Have a look at the exchange rate map today, and get some reality into your head. I fear you've been indoctrinated with bullshit that fits your view, and haven't bothered to click a few buttons and find out the truth. I'll repeat - 76p to the dollar; when was the last time that happened?

Mercuryg excuse my ignorance in financial matters but am I correct in thinking as you are paid in dollars you are now better of  when you exchange from dollar to pound

Is devaluation of the pound  also set to aid  UK-based companies whose earnings are predominantly overseas.

  2. I did not know the picnic had been revived and had taken place last weekend, I must have missed  any advertisements  that were made. I have not heard anyone say how it went. and never  noticed the shows set up anywhere.

What kind of turnout was it as the weather was not to good, did it have a march down front street with any bands, I heard a pipe band on Sunday when I was in the garden was that part of the picnic event ?

The news post has a story and photo.

Only by denying Citizens, their supreme right, with his or her little pencil, or online click, the right to decide who governs the country, or participate in a referendum, is sheer diabolical, certainly not democratic.

    Think about it!

    BREXIT NEVER WOULD HAVE HAPPENED!!!

    P.S.

    Congratulations Brexitiers,

how do you propose to reconcile with citizens who may have to leave their choice of abode, how do you think they feeling???

Well it has happened so get over it hinney.

Why should you have a vote for what happens in a Country you choose not to live in, you want to have ya cake and eat it son.

If you want to lie on ya back in the sun supping cheap beer and scoffing burgers that's up to you but ya don't deserve a shout in what happens in my back yard .

Stop squawking like you've been badly done by.its your choice to live somewhere else no one forced ya .

And as for leaving ya choice of abode, folk got a residence to live in other Countries long before we joined the loony EU so ya place in the sun will be safe

If ya as good wi ya gob as ya are wi ya fingas ya must be able ta talk a glass eye ta sleep

  7. One man's meat is another man's poison things liked by one person may be distasteful to another, but we are very lucky to live in a democratic society.

Something that one person likes may be distasteful to someone else. Fred: What do you mean you don't like French fries? They're the best food in the world! Alan: One man's meat is another man's poison. Jill: I don't understand why Don doesn't like to read science fiction. It's the most interesting thing to read. Jane: I wouldn't want to do her job, but she seems to love it.  One man's meat is another man's poison.

  8. I think a lot of MPs voted May and Leadsom just to remove Gove from the possibility of party members electing him.

In both previous contests conducted under the current system, the candidate who took first place in the initial round of the MPs' ballot failed to go on to become leader.

Only Conservative members are eligible to vote in the election.

That amounts to about 150,000 people If that number is roughly accurate, though, it would mean just 0.23% of the population of the UK get to decide who becomes the next Prime Minister.

If Leadsom  is elected leader she would be the least experienced prime minister since William Pitt the Younger.

We should boycott all Virgin products and services!

I agree webtreckker, I don't have any phone or broadband from them bit I am thinking of moving my savings.

The classical elite theory of democracy is what sets the elites apart from the rest of society is their personal resources, such as skills, intelligence and a vested interest in government This perspective also holds that the much larger balance of society (me and you) is incompetent and unable to make decisions relating to their governance.

  10. Why has Theresa May had secret talks with Sir Richard Branson in his quest for a second referendum, should someone who could be Prime Minister soon be seen to be lending an ear to unhappy billionaires who did not get what they wanted ? Mrs May has already publicly ruled out a second referendum

The poor of England and Wales voted to turn on the elite the disenfranchised weren't expected to turn out. None of the elite expected it to go that way.

What a shame Jeremy Corbyn didn't represent the working class and their issues instead of the concerns of the well off luvies and  lefties of London perhaps ,he should have taken a leaf out of President Trumps book,
