  1. This topic got me reminiscing about my late Dad (George Turnbull), and a few Google searches brought up an interview with the great Jim Redman, a name I'm sure Foxy will be familiar with. T

    Remarkable.

I was fortunate enough to meet him at the TT in 2003 merc...great guy !!

  2. Why is ukip advertised on the forum website,"I'd like to say the moderators shouldn't allow it"! What does this advertising got to do with Bedlington.

I've been in touch with my Union Shop Steward Tony, who in turn contacted area head office, they agree if it had been the Labour Party advertising it would have been acceptable but they cannot condone others maybe making inroads into the Bastion. They could be visiting County Hall soon if there's an inquiry into the Tescogate  affair, in which case they'll pop down here and have the offending advert removed.  ;)

  3. , foxy. as a moderator on a COMMUNITY run forum I don't think it's appropriate to refer to us in this way.

Well you can like it or lump it toffo  if I thought being a moderator denied me of my right to have an opinion then I wouldn't have taken on the task,  just because my opinion is different to yours doesn't mean that I'm wrong and your right. What gives you the right to have a "poke" at the good work done by the volunteers of the Bedlington in Bloom Group?  I'm known locally by most folk as Foxy hence my user name on here, In reality I'm John Fox  I don't need to hide  behind a pseudonym and I will be at the Council Meeting tomorrow night mouthing off about the current situation in the town..not on a website but face to face with the Council.  When I stand up and say my name to identify myself give me a nudge, we'll have a chat and maybe sort out our differences.  Alternatively if I don't get the nudge I could ask at the meeting...........Is toffo here?

  4. "Isn't the Red Lion pub now a restraunt ?"

It's a Wetherspoons Pub, serving a fine range of ales and food, and is a busy establishment at even the slackest times. It's a great place to lose your glasses, too.

I got them back Merc, they were behind the Bar, (specs) however I'm considering loaning them out to anyone who may now be under the impression that the place  ran aground.

  5. Surely we can call for a public inquiry into all of this or at least begin a motion of "no confidence" in NCC. Me personally say try and break free of the shackle of NCC if there is such a way!

You failed to mention the Ashington MP who needs to be Replaced with Anyone from Any political party that is prepared to Fairly  represent the town on a Level playing field.

  6.

And now, it seems, we have a stretch of dual carriageway that may or may not be the shortest in existence, depending upon how many pints Foxy has on a Thursday night. Remarkable.

This was my other "achilies heel" merc I used this one twice a day,  funny how its length varied depending on if I was starting or finishing work  :)

  7. is the stretch of highway from the Red Lion roundabout to the roundabout next to Morrissons possibly the shortest dual carriageway in the UK?

When I came out of the Red Lion on Tuesday night at  23.50 freezing the b******s  off and walking towards the Foxes Den, that stretch of Dual Carriageway appeared to have four lanes and was possibly the Longest in the UK !!

  8. The Town Council  past and present  aren't to blame for the Tesco Debacle  or the lack of investment in the Town. The blame lies solely  with our County Councillors and the Member of Parliament that was elected to represent us. They have failed miserably  to support us whilst channeling their efforts and our monies into a neighbouring town of the MPs choice. They are aware of this website and get regular  news feeds of what is being discussed on here, some of them may be members but unfortunately they choose not to respond because they can't defend their actions.

  9. Brilliant.

    .

Maybe our MP and Councillors could also sign up.

I do not just mean Bedlington but Northumberland Councillors.

Perhaps even an MP or two.

For things to get this bad and to be content with office space in a town centre seems very wrong.

You must have misread my post Maggie, I wasn't meaning an attempt to save what we have, I was looking for investment. The people you mention above are the root cause of the problem, we even have Bedlington reps campaigning for investment into Ashington in their quest to suck up the MPs backside.  Hopefully we can get rid of them before they watch the lights being switched off for the last time.

  10. Surely landlords, the council local and county not to mention central government can get together and change things for our town.

Profits would and will come when these people change things for the better.

    Maggie,

I'm not sure on all the facts yet but I'm led to believe that if we can get a petition signed by 10,000 people then by law the issue has to be discussed at Westminster  As there are around 15,000 people in Bedlington, a large number of which  are unhappy at the performance of our elected representatives who haven't supported us,  then we shouldn't have a problem getting the required number of signatures.  I'm sure we could muster up enough volunteers to collect the names and hopefully get someone else to give us the support that has not been given from the present regime. What do you think?
