Just 'inserted' a strap line onto a WBTC poster about to come out.

Haven’t read through the topic yet but there is possibly a simple reason for those stats. For years the cops have come along to our council meetings and Forum meetings telling us that the crime stats were down. All about the ‘fear of crime’ remember that one! I knew from personal experience that the last thing the cops wanted to do was give you a crime number and the only way to get one for a relatively ‘low’ crime was for an insurance claim. Well guess what, those stats have been used against them to justify cuts in the service! Now anything will get a crime number (directives from Chief Constables and I assume Crime Commissioners) to drive numbers up and show more cops are in fact needed! For my take I think we are about to see the REAL crime figures in areas for the first time!

Well what a thread! Do we really have a free market fundamentalist like GGG advocating subsidies whilst (I presume) a left of centre guy like merc advocates letting the market decide. (I know merc but for the purpose of accusing GGG of adapting spin to get over a political point!!!!!)

Beg to disagree with your point about animal language merc.......when I lived in France the locals all said that cockerels sang......."cock-a-rico" at dawn. Now we all know they sing "Cock-a-doodle-do!"

Its the amount NCC have agreed to spend on capital projects Maggie.......you know like sports centres etc.,, whilst at the same time cutting jobs and services as part of their cost savings budget. Is it just me????????

Pilgrim, There are many words I could use to describe council meetings however for the sake of council understanding them the expression being used currently has too many syllables to be universally understood by all members! In fact at some council meetings……..higher up ones that is…… you might have to wake members up to ask them if they understood! (I wish everyone HAD to attend council meetings and see the performance of the people they are electing! Pity Pratchett is gone would have made an excellent source for his type of humour!)
