  1. Lovely pictures Adam. Thanks for sharing. I have to say that I think Bedlington is looking really nice. It seems as though a bit of thought and effort has been put in. Hope it wasn't just because "the torch" was coming to town.

The THI have done and continue to do a great job with the shop fronts, and the place did look very neat and tidy for the torch to come through, hopefully it will stay like that in the future.

  2. Company version is that driver was told to drop them off at 5am but for his own reasons delivered them at 3am. Seized on by windbag Prescott to make political capital of the half-truth.

Kids are still paid their dole and are offered a "real job" at the Olympics.

Who would you rather employ Adam: someone who won't do it because they are being "exploited", or someone who welcomes the experience, sees it as a step on the employment ladder, and will get out of bed at 3am to prove their commitment? And... are employers never exploited?

I can comment on the work experience program, David Cameron said people who did the work experience would A: get a job after the work experience was finished. or B: Get a job six months down the line. I did the work experience, was always early, worked hard, helped anyone who needed it, and at the end of the work experience was told, "we are cutting everyone hours but we will inform you of any jobs here in the future," a few weeks ago i went in the other person who was on the work experience with me was working there i was never informed of a job vacancy there. Six months after the work experience where am i still on the dole.

  3. Has the NCC's grass cutting equipment knacked up ?. There is a distinct lack of grass cutting taking place. The area from the Bank Top to the black bridge and beyond is an absolute disgrace, the grass and weeds must be yard high. This was an area not to long ago was kept nice, why the deterioration? The approaches to and from the Spine road are overgrown as well. Apart from being unsightly it is downright dangerous to let a junction such as this become overgrown and unkempt. Drivers are "playing chicken" because they cannot see what is coming. This is not the only place suffering neglect in Bedlington, but it seems to be the worst (as far as I can see). And!!!!! I hear they are selling a tractor or two and some equipment, eh!

Grass Cutting is now the the parish/town council's responsibility so they are the ones to complain to about the quality of service, but i agree with you the quality of grass cutting is disgraceful and i will be raising it to the Town Council at their next meeting on the 21st june.

  4. The entrance to St Benet's is an terrible accident waiting to happen, both teachers and pupil families vehicles, exit from the school when there is a clear sign inside the school entrance clearly stating "NO EXIT" .

Sadly, nothing will change, unless the school wakes up and realises that..... I dread to think.

Has anyone noticed the "lollipop lady" has now moved from bennies enterance to down beside the christian fellowship, so there is now no "lollipop lady" at bennies enterance.

  5. Nothing too much wrong with the NUM before it was thoroughly infiltrated by revolutionaries, who's only purpose in life was to overthrow a democratically elected government, and hold the Country to ransom. Nothing very much wrong with the early Labour Party when they had some principles. It was the armchair socialists - who briefly marched behind the banners, spouted nonsense from the platform, then got back into their chauffeur-driven Bentleys and were whisked back to Hampstead until the next election year - that I had any issue with.

Bedders has paid dearly for its gullibility and naivety. A proud history, but whatever happened to the "sunlit uplands" emblazoned on some of those fine banners?

Should invite Arthur Scargill or Tony Benn to the event for you and let them have a speech at Attlee Park. :D

  6. Don Lynn had a butchers shop in the oval in the 60s.

I remember going in one morning for the daily order of 6 pasties for the 10 o clock tea break for lads I was serving my time with. Don could'nt wait to show me something that looked like an iron bar, he threw it on the floor and when it bounced he said "do you know what that is"? before i could answer he said "its a rabbit" The days of frozen food were here and Don was amazed at how long it could be kept in storage. His shop had the reputation as the best in Bedlington. Not sure if the rabbit was for his own use or if he intended to sell them. David is certainly same Family but I'm not sure what relation.

    David Is Don's Son.

  7. So Spain gets a banking bailout but let's not call it that. Italian production figures are down the pan which can only mean an even worse balance of payments, Greece is a basket case with the Jackboot firmly on the necks of the indigenous populace and even Germany might see a bank run soon……..

    Time for some light relief………….

Shame its not like that in Brussels.

  8. Just for you Cannylass............quite a saucy song if you listen to the lyrics!

If I can get everything sorted in time this should have an outing next Friday!

Nice photos in the video, would have liked to gotten some in the snow myself, but we had no snow last year

  9. A Policeman is investigating some strange stuffings and visits the local Taxidermist and tells him the problem that 34 healthy people and a double glazing salesman have been stuffed and mounted and that he is under suspicion and in addition to this he is believed to have stuffed 3 members of the cabinet but the police can't find out which three however if the police find out which three he will be in a lot of trouble, the policeman goes on to say "do you know what you can get for stuffing Mr. Norman Tebbit?" the taxidermist responds, "queens award for industry, i have it hear."

  10. Read with interest of the new exercise equipment in the Halfpenny Woods and prompted by Brian's question " is it the Halfpenny Woods or the Free Woods," I'm now wondering how it came to be called The Halfpenny Woods. Anybody got any ideas?

The free woods is called that because years ago it used to be free to go in, but halfpenny woods used to cost you a halfpenny to get in so that is why they are called halfpenny woods and free woods, or so i hear.

  11. I now have the original coat of arms for Bedlingtonshire Urban District Council.

With a bit of luck and a good wind we should see it flying high once again, quite soon!

Good to hear Malcolm hope we see it again soon.

  12. Yes the market palce was done up but it was a waste of money but apart from that and the shop fronts Bedlington has had no other money for anything how can anyone say it is right to spend more then £73,100,000.00 in wansbeck and Bedlington has not even seen a 10th of the money.

  13. I had just reviewed the You Tubes which went in with the various town Portas bids and personally I wouldn't have given any of them 100p never mind 100K!

Before I gave any reasons here's the Newbiggin one and there are plenty more from our area!

Public services and transport? Is that not a local council problem should talk to their local councillor or their Town Council to deal with that problem? yet again they say "we have been abandoned" yet they have had as i said before £3 million on a new Maritime Centre and another £10 Million on a "new" Beach talk about favoritism. Also they talk about business comming and going from Newbiggin, 3 Commercial Property up for sale in Newbiggin on Mike Rogerson Website compared to 5 In Bedlington, how many businesses have come and gone from Bedlington including the 3 Banks in the last 2 years compared with Newbiggin?
