A Member of the planning commitee i talked to say's that Elliot withdrew his application for a care home and now he is going to build house there, but with the state of Elliot and the building trade i say 40/1 he will sell the site. Maybe Malcolm or Foxy could buy it.

What is the matter with Bedlington having a mining museum, In fact the management of woodhorn museum changed it so it is no longer Woodhorn Mining Museum just woodhorn museum, should we not have a museum in bedlington i would say we have more history then Ashington.

They will get permission off the planning Inspectorate, need we be reminded of the last time they got involved which was with the Church Hall, they let that go thru even though the public did not want it.

Great Photo Foxy, I recognise the Trotter Memorial, Trinity Church and the Dentists must of change the Dentists a bit over the years, but i would have a guess of the year 1955-56.

Why not try the Bedlington Community Centre as it is local and open for business. Contact Enid Dunbar.

I would guess that the second pic was taken in the 50's/60's foxy with the VW camper in the picture and the other cars in the picture, would gamble and say 50's but not sure.I must be getting old, thought I had a full on view of the store but cannot find it, anyway this snack bar should jog some memories KEITH ? This photo was taken in 1970. Not sure when the second pic was taken.

Hi Cyril, NCC (northumberland county council) no longer support the centre because of the centre was sold to WBTC (west bedlington town council), however the building is owned by WBTC who bought it off NCC last year and it is run by a group of trustees some of who i believe you met, i am also one of them. There are two Councilors who are on this site but they do not know much about what is going on with the centre, the best thing you could do is go to a Town Council meeting and ask the questions to the Chair Arthur Pegg or Vice Chair George Todd, the next town council meeting is on 8th march 2012 at 6.00pm in the Community Centre.

Well Done to everyone involved in getting the station up and running and the people running it, keep up the great work .

Well Keith, everyone does it: old prams, clothes, bags, fridges, the list is endless, would not be suprised if one day somebody goes down and their selling one of the old LDV's or Fords, they drive onto the market place with to unload the second kett. What market !!! If I did that to the Market place every Thursday I'd get locked up for fly tipping.

I think what needs to happen is, people who break the rules of the road should be shown what happens when you do it, the injurys caused and even if need be the state of a person killed by dangerous driving, but that is just my opinion.

I hope it is a Good Business and not any of these we have enough of them in Bedlington, we need something like a clothes shop but not second hand rubbish, have enough of that at the "Market".Going with the current theme of businesses in Bedlington, it's going to be either a hairdressers, florists, solicitors or coffee shop, IMO anyway

It was never up For Sale, it was To Let, there is someone in there apparently but what kind of business, i have no clue. But we have lost a great business Now, Valley Jewellers is now closed and has a To Let sign in the window.

So you agree with Thatchers ideas kick everyone out of their jobs in state owned industry and get them to work for themselves it does not work i have seen it first hand.

I do know my history that was modernisation of the NCB, same as British rail, which where both destroyed than sold off by Thatcher. You don't know your history Adam. Long before Margaret Thatcher there was a guy called Alf Robens. He happened to be the usual bussed-in Labour MP for our area. He was appointed chairman of the NCB in 1961. And, I quote from Wikipedia:
when he took over as NCB chair there were 698 pits employing 583,000 miners, but by the time he left the post ten years later there were only 292 pits employing 283,000 miners.

Coal and Steel provided long lasting employment until thatcher closed it all, the NHS has provided long lasting employment since 1947 when it was created, also labour did nationalise in the last century they where in power, have you not heard of Northern Rock, RBS and lloyds TSB. Also you name to me one overseas corporation which is coming to the north east.

No malcolm the bunker is to the right of the picture and is still there today. That's the one foxy........ classic example of of bunker architecture!
-
If i where PM i would do what Labour did in the late 40's and nationalize it.

He should sell the land and it should be a community garden by the people for the people, maybe Malcolm could ask Mr Elliot nicely to give it to the forum or development trust and they could do a community garden, How about it Malcolm?
