  1. Adam,

With any luck it won't be us that's doomed rather the people forcing us into unsustainable ways of living who might feel the wrath for a change. Not that there is any precedent of course……….

There looks to be a whole geo-political change being forced onto the West as wealth disappears eastwards and once they had our jobs who didn't see that coming? Err, well everyone in charge and those outsourcing jobs! This is in the last 2 or 3 decades so we have livid through this stuff and we should be able to see where the mistakes were made.

America is bankrupt by any definition of the word, Europe is imploding and while we (UK) smugly sit on the sidelines our economy has already disappeared up the genie's back passage!

The thing is what all those in charge seem to forget or not allow for is the anthropological question. They have controlled us by allowing us to feel wealthier and better off but having to allow that to get out of hand and using unsustainable debt to carry it on has produced a quantum moment in our social development.

We will see more nationalistic undercurrents at play in our political futures, and if anyone doesn't believe that look at the French Presidential elections and the courting of Marine by Sarko and Holland going on. That is diametrically opposed to any furthering on EU integration in fact it has to produce the opposite effect. So while all member states bankrupt themselves trying to sort out the EU sovereign debt crisis the people will probably vote for some form of separatism and walk away from debt payments and so bring the whole pack of cards crashing down.

I think we are living in interesting times and that Mayan Long Count Calendar might have been right all along!

Well Malcolm now we are doomed now we are now in a double dip recession http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-17836624, Good Job Boy George.

  2. I have heard the ridge farm will not close because someone is already set up to go in, they will most likely be just saying its to let because they may get a better deal off someone else. It is a shame though i have been served many times by the bloke who ran it seams a nice guy, shame he's leaving, hope none of the other staff do they are all nice as well.

  3. The same thing is happening at Glebe Road (Glebe Court) as what happened at the Terrier Pub (Terrier Site), bungalows are being built by Bernicia. I don't know about the second phase Malcolm is talking about, maybe a member of the Town Council can comment and answer the questions as they should know whats going on.

  4. Unfortunately you don't!

Economic reasons, or not? So why aren't you protesting about the stupid Carbon Tax instead of playing the blame game?

And.. if you want to see what happens when a socialist regime nationalises (i.e. misappropriates other people's property for wholly political ends) then follow this one as it develops:

    http://www.bbc.co.uk...europe-17739204

She seems to have given up on thieving the Falklands for now, and is now targeting Spanish assets for political glorification. Like all nationalisations, it will end in tears, and everyone will lose in the end! But, she'll buy a bit of political popularity with money Argentina can ill afford, and be long gone to her luxury villa (in our Labour MP Robens case it was a castle) by the time the chickens come home to roost.

    I DO KNOW THE ANSWER!

Mr Heseltine said the closures had been the toughest decision of his life.

and so does my dad try having this argument with him  . You and Malcolm can argue with me all day and night, i still believe nationalisation is a good thing, What i will now say on Alcan is that Rio Tinto should hang their heads in shame along UK Coal who closed Ellington for No Reason.

  5. Mrs. Thatcher of course kicked no one out of a job. It would be just as silly to say that the Redcar steel works that has just re-opened was closed by Labour, and was re-opened by the Conservatives/LibDems.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk...d-tees-17719747

Economic forces closed it, and economic forces have re-opened it. If it had been nationalised it would have plodded on producing steel that no one wanted to buy, running up huge losses for the Country and disrupting the market of profitable plants, until being closed by the decree of some overpaid state supremo, on the advice of dozens of overpaid senior "civil servants".

A Thai company has ploughed a couple of billion into it as it has a market for the steel. Granted it now employs less people, but given the huge investment its future is now much more secure. That is real "modernisation" - not the sort of mass delusion that took place under post-war nationalisation and the Robens cull of the mining industry.

So lets go back to the subject at hand, Alcan was it closed due to "Economic forces"? Answer: NO.

Also who appointed Ian MacGregor as head of the NCB and who changed the name of the NCB to British Coal and announced the pit closure programme of the 1980's Answer: Thatcher

Also Later on who announced the pit closure program of the 1990's and privatised it coal industry in the 90's? I know the answer do you?

  6. Camerons successor! Eh! So Adam you want the Con-Dems in again! I don't think so. This is an un elected Government being allowed to get away with murder. Clegg, leg or beg runs this country, without him Cameron is NOTHING!

I Completely Agree with you Merlin Cameron and "Virgil" (my new name for Clegg because he's like a puppet) are running this country into the ground and their unelected, remind anyone of a more local issue? :glare:

  7. Yep, Ted Heath was the second worst PM this country has ever had. But at the time of The Big Common Market Con it was the Labour Party who were by far the biggest supporters of dragging us into it at all costs. And... the only people warning about the consequences was a very large part of the Conservative Party. More or less the same people who were warning about the consequences of unlimited immigration, and being vilified for their prescience. The sad thing about people who play at "social engineering" is that they are seldom around to take the flack when the true outcome of their pet theories becomes apparent to all.

It may also have escaped your notice that the only PM to stand up to the Eurocrats in a robust manner was your very good friend Mrs T! ;) And... if you are going to exclusively knock David Cameron then imagine the sort of mess we'd now be in with either of the other two twit party leaders in full control. :)

I was - of course - talking about being rescued from the Germans. But, then, maybe even the Germans can be rescued from themselves? :D

But at least his successor (Harold Wilson) asked the public if they wanted to stay in the EEC and they voted to stay in and why did "Milk Snatcher's" successor (John Major) not ask the public if they wanted to join the EU?

  8. We've been here twice before - let's just call it WWIII ! :D But, this time, why bother saving the French? ;)

Why Bother saving any of them, Germany, Italy, Spain and the rest, they have ruined this great country plus Ted Heath who got us in this mess to start with it, it has got worse since then and it has now become a disaster under Cameron, hopefully his successor will tell the EU to go and there will be a sign like so outside the EU HQ :closed: .

  9. BIG YES they are starting to look a lot more impressive than it used to (apart from that bliddy eye sore of a school  ).........is it going to be done all the way down the street past the North ?

It has went pass the north i think because i'm sure Chinchilla's has had their shop front done, but i agree with Foxy all the shop front that have been done up look great a big thanks to all the guys involved  . Mind I'm not a fan of the Purple and Cream on R&S Convenience, i would have like to see a crimson red and cream but that's just my opinion. As you can guess reading this Purples not one of my favourite colours .

  10. The government made a new cabinet position called the minister of cuts he went to the house of commons to tell mp's his plans for cuts and says he will cut the armed services, railways and other services. One mp's stands up and says "will the minister be making cuts in whitehall?" The minister stands up and says, "yes once i'm finished here i will be completely cut, but to tell the house the truth i'm half cut already."

  11. We should go and knock on Elliot's door in Bomarsund where he lives and ask him?

Just another thought does anyone have any idea as to what was there prior to Elliot's garage, I have asked many people and they have no idea, and if anyone does know, are there any photos of it?

I thought he lived at Blyth in his "Dream House", and before the garage was there it was a quarry.

  12. No there was a planning application for a huge one just off the road down to Choppington. Must have been on top of or at least really close to the old quarry?

Or the Toxic Waste dump as others call it Malcolm.
