yes the VG shop was next to the pioneer boot factory.the spar across the road when first built was just a garage that sold cars. and one of the Drivers for Lawson's lived in Jubilee Terrace. who i knew very well.

the Army building stands on the site of a theatre built between 1850 and 1860 most of the land on the west side of Hartford Road belonged to John Dowson' the last performance held in Dowson's Theatre was 1879 a year later the building was sold to the Salvation Army.

Lairds House, it was built in 1777 the Marshall family left the house in the 1870s and the Bedlington Coal company leased the property after 1934 the property became the Doctor Pit manager house the coal company gave up the lease in 1954 the house was sold to Jimmy Millne'
