Fingers crossed something happens soon. Considering how quickly the new houses can be built locally, let's hope by this time next year we have a town centre again. Bedlington was an important centre in the past and will be again.

These letters maybe of interest today.

Rhonda Bee somewhere in the depths of this website there are some letters written in the 1800's from your part of the World back to Bedlington. The family were Methodist ( I seem to remember) and it gives an insight into the past . I found them while 'spoaching' through a few years ago. Amazingly people travelled huge distances to work. I think the railways were, in part , a reason plus all the usual. A friend born in the NE found her family in Devon in the late 1800's. Tales of people walking huge distances to find work are not uncommon. My own ancestors can now be found around the World. Many occupations allowed people to live a healthy life and large families lived and thrived. Somewhere I have a book on the 'Navies' which makes interesting reading. I suppose there are lots of other interesting reasons for movement. A visitor to Bedlington last year was adopted by a couple whose ancestors moved to California for health reasons. The common thread is often that these people never forget the importance of Bedlington in their lives . It is good to be in contact with people around the World.

Great research Rhonda Bee. We may live a great distance apart but these posts give us some idea of how far our ancestors traveled for work and or a better life.

Politics should always be about truth and honesty. Bedlington and the independents have proved that point. Working together with all parties is now essential.

An investigation would be a good idea. Afterall they may have always been honest and above board. Now is their chance to prove their honesty and integrity .

Make a Noise the story of opposition and resistance . Labour towards Independence Our town has a very special tale to tell. Hollywood or the British Film Industry should come calling!

Agreed HPW. Sometimes it is only with age that we understand the dilemmas of the past generations. History helps us understand our lives and those of our children and grandchildren.

This weeks NPL was interesting. Easy to understand was Malcolm Robinsons letter However page 3 on Capital Spending was not so easy. Capital Spending, cuts and a tax hike was the headline. The article tells us that there are to be £6 million revenue cuts and £380 million spent on capital projects in 2017/18 . Does this mean these huge sums and more are the spending in 2016/17. They go on to tell us that there is £150 million earmark for third party loans to the likes of Arch. There is also funding for new sport and leisure facilities at Druridge Bay. 3G pitch for Alnwick Juniors. Alnwick Playhouse into a community hub. Then new leisure centres at Blyth Morpeth Ponteland and Berwick. Significant resources are set aside for school reorganisation. Finally money to support the reopening of the Ashington Blyth and Tyne railway. To me the figures for cuts and then spending just do not add up. Bedlington with no Arch action seems very very low on any priority list. A friend at the council meeting in Morpeth thought she heard a figure of £38,000 for the posters of the council leader and others! Surely this must be wrong.

Often HPW , the stories that are hidden and not talked about are what make our ancestors come alive. Our life and times are full of the same dilemmas and drama.

It is all taking far too long. Delay of years and just maybe we are being 'fobbed ' off with the competition and name game. The local elections will be interesting.

Lidl have 'nailed' it. A good shopping experience. They need to organise our very own market place. At least they would GOWI Get on with it !

Have you thought about doing a DNA test Symptoms. It shows details of origin and can be very interesting. Scottish Island life , I can recommend . The scenery from Ullapool taking in the Summer Islands and out to Lewis is so beautiful.
