I think he refers to a CV youve spent hours on at home, only to not be able to upload it because you have no internet.

Not being able to put it onto a flash drive or disk and take it somewhere with internet access is a pain, but understandable.

What the place really needs is a few hours a week from a local IT expert, who can advise and maintain a safe working practise.

Its over my head at the moment, or i would have offered myself, but is there anyone who would voulenteer? Perhaps in exchange for some local website advertising or similer? :D

There is a black and white printer in the Help Hub - not colour - but black and white should be ok for CVs.

One thing we can't do though at present is let you brink in disks or sticks to modify a cv you've already made. Sorry, this creates a virus risk for our PCs

Some of the more worrying viruses out there are using the "AutoRun" feature used by USB pens to spread themselves. I'm sure any advice you would need could be addressed in the "computer help" section.

Petrol is looking to be obsolite in 50 yrs, tobacco either needs banning, or the laws relaxed on other drugs such as canabis, and the way health crazes are going alcohol will be pushed further and further underground too.

If you have a pub, where the rules say you clear away after yourself, and the landlady/lord smokes and is willing toi clean the area, should it not be up to the landlady/lord of that particular pub to say "this bar is smoking, this one is not.

That way those that like a smoke with a drink still can, and those of us that dont smoke, but dont mind being in a smokey room still can have a warm area in which to do just that?

I'm all for not forcing people to work in smokey conditions, but if the person responsible for these people are willing to do it themselves, then why not?

i'm sure, if you said £2.50 a pint in a non-smoking room, but £2.75 for one in the smokers end (to cover extra cleaning/ decoration) you may find people opting for the more expensive pint!

i know a good friend of mine does exactly that... stays in because he cant have a smoke with his pint. I'm regularly over his, in a smoke filled room, drinking beer and on the X-Box now for just that reason, and i dont smoke!

Mostly because they did not like the way the old forum was, although it has changed of late into a place where serious discussion seems to be taking place, and staying on track, it was not always like that.

They also have lives outside the forum that need their attention, some working 3 jobs just to make ends meet, and only have time to pop in once a week.

I'm perfectly happy with the result. I dont mind either way, if its there, i'll use it, if not, so be it.

A vote has been cast, and thats that. Like has been pointed out before, this is a forum for the people, by the people, so a majority vote will always win, even if it is all one family and their immediate family who are voting.

It would have been interesting to make it a public vote, so we could see who voted what and confirm it, but its in the past now, so be it.

A very short period for a vote tho. I know some who only visit here once a week that may have liked a vote.

The woods around the Black Bridge area used to be terrible for this - there was more dog !*!@# swinging from the trees than there was lying on the ground. It was like a competition of who can hook it the highest.

I just don't understand the mentality of the people who go to the bother of taking bags with them on their walk, who pick the stuff up but then can't be bothered to bin it properly.

It made the whole place smell foul and look filthy. Otherwise it could have been a nice area.

Maybe it was a competition, but not by the dog owners. Perhaps they put it in the bin, which is then emptied by youths who fling it up trees.

I've seen it happen in Blyth just last month.

My opinion: if your getting rid of negative, the positive needs to go too.

Newbies looking at some of the childish, insensitive remarks made by members, including myself at times, backed up by an "excellent" board reputation will also make newbies say 'Stuff you lot I'll not post'

I know thats been the opinion of at least 3 people i have introduced to the forum, who have never signed up, simply because of the insensitivity of a member with a "Moderator" title.

Back to the "report" button, and posts getting deleted for minor reasons, and a flare up for that i guess!

I agree with the garage statment. Its not going to be used as it currently is, so level it, and landscape it for now.

I agree that users should be encouraged to join in; to actually post - not just to hit a green or red button as a form of contribution.

If someone posts anything abusive, it should be moderated or deleted - what's the point in highlighting it?

Sometimes the behaviour is best left without reply, as in the past it just escalates.

Theres no definite line between someones honest opinion on a subject, and personal abuse. its just too grey to decide sometimes, and as we've seen, the people who post this get touchy when its deleted.

People are entitled to their opinion, even if it is a little childish. This way everyone gets a say, and a general feel can be gained about the post from the community in general.

If its a general discussion, and people have an opinion outside whats been said already, then of course they should post.

However, i think, like the option in the voting system, you should have a choice of displaying who voted what. but thats just me. Perhapt that would be taking it a little too far

It works on another forum i frequent, whereby an answer given can be "approved" by another respected member, and therefore the advice taken as a little more credible. Then again, here, it may just create personal issues.

Well, no map because our council think screws cost £100 each, and each turn of the screwdriver is a fiver. so why not try and do something on here?

like a google maps thing, where we as users can add content (moderated of course, pointers to "the local tart's house" can be deleted before they appear ) and a simple rollover of the mouse (or click) will open up a small information box with perhaps a small thumbnail picture?

i totally agree, but if there is going to be a positive rep, there has to be a negative. This way just allows the members to show disaproval of a post in particular, without having that users post removed by using the report feature.

It keeps peoples views on the forum, but allows everyone to see what the 'general' feel of that post is. (it may have kept Mongo on the forum!!)

Perhaps its time to introduce a negative post recomendation, instead of just a positive.

The fact that comment and others comes from a forum moderator with excelent reputation as far as this board is concerned (64 at the time of posting) does not give a very good impression in my eyes.

the reputation system, if there at all, is there to be as a guide to the 'reputation' of the poster. if someone can only get a 'positive' reputation then every post they post is backed up by this reputation.

the fact a post has no rep points is no indication of its quality, it just means no-one felt compelled to 'agree' or 'disagree' with the post.

If theres no negative to the positive, theres no 'general feel' to the boards attitude on certain posts, and no reason not to be downright nasty one day and post some good posts the next.

there are some posts on the board people just think are there for a negative reason, and may not warrant removal. these posts should be flagged by the other members as negative. This *should* make anyone who cares about their rep on the site, think twice before posting something unnessarily negative.

the way i see it:

a post with a positive count is a post with which most people who read it agree with.

a post with a neutral count is something people neither agree nor disagree with

a post with a negative count is something people mostly disagree with.

therefore the way it should work is people who have a positive rep have a posting attitude most people agree with, whereas a negative one points to someone who is someone with a negative attitude towards the board in general (by abusing it and the people on it) or is someone with a legitamate view, but one the majority do noty agree with.

Of course, family and friends on the board, and generally not liking/ganging up on a user will happen. this is why i ask if the admins can monitor who gives + - reps, and can suspend the ability if it is deemed to be being abused.

Thats my opinion. i respect yours. i actually wouldnt mind hearing others views too.
