R.I.P. Garry Speed. Great pro and a role model to young players at whatever club he played. He was an excellent servant to N.U.F.C. for five seasons or so. A sad loss to the world of football.

Thats him canny lass, he has done well for himself and lives in Fleetwood now.

You lot at Westridge at that time would remember the Coulthards that went there Richard, George, Gordon and Elizabeth.

Can't remember doing it in a decker but many times in a bull nosed Bedford single decker, and possibly a leyland leopard. There used to be plenty red marks on the furnace bridge.

Today is the day that we spend a little time to remember those who gave their lives in the wars of 1914-1918 and 1939-1949 as well as in the many conflicts that our Soldiers Sailors and Airmen ( and their supporting colleagues) have been involved in since and now. Questions are being asked about the level of support our military personell deserve today. Many query the reason as to why our soldiers etc. are even involved in places such as Afghanistan and Iraq . Those that are there, are there out of choice. Unlike WW1 and WW11, no-one forced them to join up. When they do join up, they are trained in various skills, one of which is warfare. They are trained to fight, they are trained to shoot at people, to kill. They are taught how to minimise the risk of being killed or injured themselves and how to help those who are with them. For this , they are paid, that is their job, a job , may I add, I would not want, these people deserve every penny that they receive. Take a look at two very different scenario's. JIMMY SMITH :- aged 21 Jimmy is a soldier he joined up at 16 and is now serving in Afghanistan. Its Friday, 7 am, his last day of duty before he returned home. It is all he can think about. He steps on a IED and he loses his leg. He returns home and is looked after by the military and is still being paid. JIMMY BROWN :- aged 21 Jimmy is an engineer, he has just completed his apprenticeship that he started at 16, Its Friday 7 am and he is on his way to work. He is thinking about going out with his mates that night. He crosses the road to get a paper, he is knocked down by an uninsured driver, still drunk from the previous night, Jimmy loses a leg. He is looked after by the NHS he is not being paid his wages from work. Is there any real difference between the two cases. Had it been a case that they were killed, is one case more deserving than the other. They are both someones son, brother, boyfriend. Both boys were going about their daily lives, a life they chose IS THERE REALLY A DIFFERENCE?

You can't compare the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City with the situation at NUFC as those teams moved to new stadiums (new ground, new name) as did Slumderland AFC. They talk about Chelsea FC re-naming their ground but Abromavitch is insisting that any new name should include the words Stamford Bridge. This should be the case at St James' Park. Because of the FA's new self sufficiency rules that are about to be introduced, clubs are looking at ways of generating more cash and incorporating a sponsors name into the stadium is one way to do it, but to completely remove the name of St. James' Park, absolutely not. Ashley and Llambias were just starting to make a few inroads in the popularity stakes at SJP, because of the improved financial situation, but as usual they have gone about it in such a ham fisted manner that they lose popularity as quick as they gain it . Mike Ashley must be a glutton for punishment, it looks like he will have to impose yet another period of self exile from his own ground for his own safety. Talking about safety, Who would be the brave soul to actually remove the words "St. James' Park" from outside the ground, any volunteers? Lets see if there are any plans to lose names like, Old Trafford, Anfield, Goodison Park, Croft park or the Welfare ground. Just an after thought....... It would be nice if the local news stations (television and radio) continued to call it St James' Park. As with Match Of The Day and others. NUFC, they say, is the number 1 second favorite team in the Country, so fans from other clubs will come out in support of saving the name (mebe not those of Slumderland though)

Street cicuits will be a lot safer than their racetracks. I have always wanted to see a New York street cicuit. Remember the ones they played with in this country, the one in Birmingham millions spent on that, too many winging gits spoiled any chance of it being made permanant. Then there was that exhibition in London. Could have a Bedlington GP, start at bank top, race to first bend on stead lane. up to front st ,right at red lion, down glebe bank, right onto schalksmuhle way, left to beech grove, left onto victoria /rothesay tce (good noise on long straight), right onto jubilee, down furnace bank, up hairpin right up to horton right again past atlee park x 55 Bank top to stead lane, just for the start

Malcolm should remember that , he me even have been on the bus. I can remember buses having to stop at the bottom after coming down the hairpin ( ie from Blyth) to let the brakes cool a little because of brake fade, ( when brake drums get so hot they expand away from the reach of the shoes) . The furnace also had a few red marks on it from the United buses.

This is the 4th time this bloke has predicted the end of the world, cant be too far off for him anyway at 90. I was reading about those people that made these predictions and how they coped when the world didn't end, one of them in the 1930's (I think) decided to give up after being wrong so many times. He then took a job with a major American newspaper ........... as a weather forecaster. ( only the yanks, only the yanks)
