Up until the present day "brand imaging" it had always been the Howard Arms, at least within living memory.
I'm wrong about Greggs being beside Barclays (extreme right edge of photo), it was Carricks. For a while we had two bakery chains there.
And, I'm still being told that Clevva Clothes wasn't still there by the late 1970's - very puzzling!
What you can say with reasonable certainty is that it's a high-summer shot taken late morning. Maybe June or July. That there are virtually no cars around at that time of day - except a bit of passing traffic - , few people, and the shops look shut, says it must be a late Sunday morning. Get the year right and you can almost pinpoint the date and time!
It's Inspector Morse.

I loaned our telly to downstairs for a few days almost a fortnight ago now. And, despite the fact that it's only a lightweight 26" LCD, can't be a**** to go get it and plug it in again. It only just became clear that reading books and listening to internet radio on the notebook computer is far more entertaining than all the mindless drivel on TV these days.
How long can I hold out TV'less (the first time for decades)? No idea, but when I go to get it it will probably be just to fill the empty space in the room, and certainly not because of boredom.
What I really want now is a decent pair of Bluetooth speakers for the notebook computer.
You're missing quality broadcasting like My Family.

The Lion and Movies is always riddled with under 18's. Would it make a difference if they upped the drinking age to 21?
Yeah, it's a well known fact that only under-age drinkers cause trouble.

How true that is, every time I come to Bedlington to visit relatives I pass that place and it takes me back to the days when the second hand washing machine shop was nexr door to it as you go towards the Monkey.
I usally use the Market Place Club when I am up there but I did go into the Market Tavern one Saturday night, at 8,15 there was me and two others in there, can't understand how it keeps open.
Well me and me fatha have just rejoined the clerb Pete, so I'll endeavour to be there next time you're home, with a foaming glass of ale awaiting you.

It was a good pub in the sixties as I recall, it had rock groups on, on a Saturday night and used to be packed by half past seven but as you say a distant memory.
You should take it over Pete, turn it into a theme bar.
