  2. Thanks , I would really like a physical structure to house all the artifacts I have inherited. But Bedlington doesn’t seem to have the right building in a location that has sufficient parking. So at the suggestion of a friend the best plan for now seems to be a walk through on line museum. So I am looking into involving technology experts for the filming and a history geek to help me to sort out the artifacts. Furniture , and ornaments aren’t a problem as it is just devising an interesting way to present clothes, toys, q curtains , paper documents , photos and letters that is the problem. But thanks for the heads up message.
  3. @Pegwoman I can't see admin objecting to you creating your own posting in the Discussion/History Hollow section of this group but it wouldn't do any harm to give them, @Andy Millne & @threegee the 'heads-up'
  4. I have been so busy with friends visiting and keeping the garden weed free. STILL no excuse. I am busy sorting out a vast collection of artifacts dating from 1906. At present I am cataloging my grandfathers toys But unsure if followers want to see photos of such things. Might take some snaps this evening and post them anyway. I am still plodding on searching for a suitable property in Bedlington to set up a museum failing that I will do it on line.
  5. With winter approaching maybe there will be a bit more activity.

  7. Whoops, sorry @Alan Edgar (Eggy1948) . I've just replied to you now.
  8. 👍 - yes please @jaxe45 @Andy Millne - is theprivate messaging service still running Ok since the systemm soft/frimware was updated/ I messaged you and @threegee weeks ago but had no response.😥
  9. Thanks for that Andy. I will keep checking in and if I find anything at home that I think is relevant tothe group I will add it. Jax
  10. Hi Jaxe, Thanks for posting, and you’re not missing anything. You’re right that it’s gone quieter. A lot of the day-to-day chat (what’s on, roadworks, lost dogs, “does anyone know…”) has moved to social media and messaging groups over the last few years, so the forum doesn’t have the buzz it used to. Bedlington isn’t drifting away though, and neither is this place. There’s years of memories, old photos, history and local knowledge on here that you won’t find anywhere else. Unlike a social media feed, it doesn’t disappear after a day or two, and it’s all still here to read and search. What keeps it going is people like you posting. Plenty of members live away from the town now, and threads about where people grew up, which school they went to, or what used to stand where the shops are now always get a response, even if it takes a little longer than it used to. We’re also working on something new. The same team behind Bedlington.uk is building something to make it easier to keep up with what’s happening in the town, whether you’re local or, like you, following from further afield. More on that soon, so keep an eye on the site. Good to have you here!
  11. I know I haven't been an active member of this group but I have enjoyed reading other peoples memories and questions about my home town but lately the group has gone very quiet. I don't live local anymore. Am I missing something or is it just that Bedlington is drifting away? Jaxe45

  16. If anyone wants to look through here and see the proposed land availability for Housing and Employment as well as policies towards those here it is. https://www.northumberland.gov.uk/.../studies-evidence... The buff colouring is the proposed housing land availability. This is not to say that’s what happens only that these areas are the suggestions. This is why I keep asking people to get on board with the new Local Plan and Neighbourhood plan consultations!
  17. Welcome to the site to all new members. If anyone nees any help navigating the site pleas post a comment. There are two Admins - @Andy Millne & @threegee who should be avaiable to answer any questions about the site.

  19. I wish I could 'clart' as good as you!
  20. The info on @John Fox (foxy)'s photo updated to fit it with @Canny lass's info.
  21. Alan. You mean to leave Vista? Windows went downhill after Vista. 😉 I went mostly to Apple... but still often go back.
  22. @Canny lass I agree with you. I know many of the Buildings housed numerous families in just a couple of rooms each and whenn I first labelled the photo I was just speculating. It was only when I enlarged that map Michael Myers posted and it showed how the rooms/houses were allocated that I doubted what I had done to the photo. Knowing you would delve into the census etc. I was waiting for you to view all info above😊and as expected you have come up with what I would say was concrete proof of the location of the 3 sets of Buildings👍. I should get to my old PC and software tomorrow and I will correct my labelling on Foxy's photo just to point to Smith's and Burdon's Buildings and also add - ' Marshall's Buildings used to be here' pointing at the ground. I will also update the Bygone Bedlington posting of your findings👌 Thankyou
  23. Sorry, Alan, but I have to disagree. I don’t think that Marshall’s Buildings appear in that photo at all. I believe that what we see, moving east from the Dun Cow towards Bedlington Bank, are: The Dun Cow PH, Smith’s Buildings and Burdon Buildings. Looking at the 1960 map, Marshall’s Buildings are free-standing and don’t connect to Burdon’s Buildings in any way. Looking at the photo, there are no free-standing buildings. The 1960s map shows Marshalls Buildings as protruding further towards the road than Burdon’s Buildings. That isn't so in the photo. The photo shows a slight curvature of the pavement at the end of the building nearest the camera and this suggests to me that it accommodates the protruding end of Marshalls Buildings. The pavement lacks kerbstones suggesting a road leading in between Burdon’s- and Marshall’s Buildings, as can be seen on the 1960’s map. Looking at the census returns from 1911 – 1939: Smith’s Buildings consists of 7 dwellings with a total of 13 rooms. For me, it seems unlikely that the small building you name as Smith’s buildings can house 13 rooms so I suggest that Smith’s buildings are in fact the 2 buildings with 7 dwellings nearest the Dun Cow, as shown on the 1960 map. Burdon’s Buildings consists of 5 dwellings with a total of 10 rooms. There are 5 entrance doors on the first building in the photo. Marshalls Buildings consists of 6 dwellings with a total of 12 rooms. That would equate nicely with the 1960s map. What do you think?
  24. Updated @John Fox (foxy) 's photo showing the 3 buildings.
  25. On the Bygone Bedlington group Michael Myers posted an old map that names the 3 sets of buildings, + the house/flat numbers, so the info I have on Foxy's photo needs updating. This is an extract of the map :-
