March 11, 201214 yr Hello Ladies and Gentlemen of gods country. How are you? I hope you are all well. I am a newbie, who was born in Bedlington, and I have lived here for ?? years and you never know I may die here.I have been reading some of the agendas up for debate on the forums and I have enjoyed the input which the members have given. I have also enjoyed going down memory lane with some of the photos posted on here, so a big thank you to all who have done so.Over the years I have lived here, I have seen Alot of changes to NE22. Some good and some, well lets say not good, I know a lot of people in bedlington and the surrounding areas and I am sur that they will be in agreement here, when I state that Bedlington has been the poor relation to our neighbours, Ashington and other towns. But we cannot give up hope that one day, our councillors who we vote in, will at least grow a pair ( as they say on Jeremy Kyle ) and fight for what our great town deserves, and that is some decent leisure facilities which we have wanted and longed for, well lets say since Humford Baths closed. This town needs investment. We all pay our council taxes and other taxes, so what I am asking for is not unrealistic to that which other towns has got, and may get again.I know it may be a lot to try and do, but is there anyway the moderator who oversees this site can muster up a petition for better recreation facilities for Bedlington, which we can sign online, and it could be sent to them clowns at county hall.

March 17, 201214 yr Like the cut of ya jib NE22……….NCC are in no doubt the Bedlington community are sick and tired of being fobbed off, not even with second best, with crumbs from the top table. They have been forced to put together a group looking at leisure provision in Bedlington, which has a sub group looking into developments for Gallagher Park. Working with Friends of Gallagher Park the Development Trust did a community consultation (look on this site I asked for input here too!) and we got almost 4000 replies back! That is pretty hard for any politician to ignore and they do so at their peril! That produced a list of 47 separate suggestions for development at the Park but way out in front was a call for some sort of sports facility. Those suggestions are being worked on now and some should be in place pretty soon! The more ambitious ones like sports centre etc. need a lot of working on to progress but that is being done too, it just takes longer. That is not to say we will get a major development there because there is a huge mountain of obstacles to get over, not least all types of funding disappearing, a decent road access into the site and the need for a proper ground survey to test soil and land conditions. I can say a master plan is being developed for the Park. The Development Trust have and are pushing this as fast and as far as it can go, in all sorts of directions!
April 4, 201214 yr Author I agree Bedlingtonian, the more pressure we put on the powers that be, the better. After all they should remember who voted them in.

April 25, 201313 yr Hi NE22,welcome aboard! One of my old friends who i grew up with,in Hollymount Square,Bedlington,in the 1950-60's ,went onto Bedlington Council, and even then, his main ambition was to press for a leisure-sports centre in Bedlington......he was on the Wansbeck council all the years from the 60's,through to the recent years, and had to retire through ill-health.........He couldn't convince them lot who control the purse-strings,that facilities in Bedlington were sadly lacking......somebody among "them lot" must have had a vested interest in Ashington,to continue extensive expenditure in that area over the years!...meanwhile...back at the ranch...............!!
